Richmond Times Dispatch Op/Ed by Governor Bob McDonnell

The rhetoric coming from the Obama campaign has shown that the president seems to have a certain disdain for people who work to improve their lot in life. Now, he has done what a lot of us have been asking him to do for quite a while. He has "stepped up to the plate". The trouble is; we're not playing baseball. He's playing with peoples' lives and our money.

To sum up the link above, the current failure-in-chief has circumvented the 1996 "welfare-to-work" portion of the bipartisan reform bill.

There's a couple of ways we can look at this, I guess. Either the president does loathe the fact that people work (which explains his ineffectual economic recovery plan) or he is saying that a whole bunch of people (President Clinton amongst them) were wrong in 1996.

The only argument for this action that I can think of is that with his (Obama's) failure to stimulate the economy, as promised, it's kind of tough to require people to work in order to get their government check.

All of that aside, a law that was passed by congress and signed by a former president has been gutted - in a round about way - by a sitting president that hasn't managed to get America back to work but he's managed to find another way to squeeze more money out of the people that do work.

Kudos, once again, go to the great destroyers!

Peace and comfort,

Michael

What you are missing is that Barack Obama is the alpha and the omega, he is the the beginning and the end

Just ask him

He is the be-all and the end-all

And so what is duly passed and signed legislation when youre the president Obama

Presidents enforcing our laws, as they pledge to do under oath, is SO yesteryear

Um...yeah. You know. States Rights? One wonders how many 'Red' states are taking part in Obama's 'gutting' of welfare as compared to 'Blue' states?

DaddySatyr doesn't read the local paper... perhaps he's too busy worrying about Virginnie (I'd rather think that than thinking it's just googling till ya find a damning article that poorly supports the latest talk radio bullshit). Anyway, if he had, he'd learn that there are opinions the are composed of more than pure misrepresentation, and actually flesh out the sory with real life accounts (even if they do happen to describe where members of their own party have been parties to this decision).

And by the way, I CHALLENGE anyone to show us a "work-to-welfare" program that is functioning or has in the days dating back to his administration... be sure to provide the mass.gov link. What he did was let a number of small but successful training/retraining programs through the Mass UA that removed the safety net for those who were unable to find work after 6 months. Disasterous for LOTS of middle class families here in the Bay state... Anyway ... this OP Ed has more than vitriolic fluff kissing Bill Clinton's ass in order to knife Obama:

What most people fail to see is that this president's failure was predictable.

He went from law school to practicing law (someone else's firm) to politics, never having truly been in control of anything.

He had no command experience. He had no leadership experience and three years later, the emperor's clothes are on display.

There's been no leadership. There's been no hint that he isn't a fish out of water. He made lots of promises. They sounded pretty. I know we campaign in poetry and govern in prose but this guy is lost in space and, ultimately, I blame the DNC.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

This material of yours is just absurd. Let me guess.....'You didnt vote for Mr. Obama in 2008', right?

If the President doesnt have any leadership or command experience. Could you explain to us WHO gave the decision to kill Osama bin Ladin in Pakistan (which could have resulted in something....ugly)? Or in getting the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through a tough Congress? How about getting the Affordable Care Act not only through Congress but stuck in place and providing benefits to tens of millions of Americans? Or the decision he has made to not lower himself down into the level conservatives seem to enjoy existing at (i.e mentally and emotionally as 6th graders)?

Yes, you dont like the guy in any fashion. Your not going to vote for him, even if he was the last man on Earth. You will ignore reality, facts, and evidence in favor of 'FOX News' like material. In fact, you'll give Republicans a 'blank check' to do anything, but bash the President over the most irrelavent and petty things you can think up. Do us a favor, dude, go find a therapist. Bitch at them your life's troubles. Cus it really is just plain annoying listen/reading some conservative rant that isnt even based on anything real or true. Hell, its not based on anything on planet Earth!

You could ask Newt, if that is true or not?

WASHINGTON -- "Newt Gingrich admitted Wednesday evening that Mitt Romney's presidential campaign has no evidence the Obama administration dropped work requirements from the nation's welfare law, contradicting a Romney TV ad released a day earlier."

Perhaps we ask PolitiFact?
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2012/aug/10/battle-week-welfare/

I know....let's ask FactCheck...http://factcheck.org/2012/08/does-obamas-plan-gut-welfare-reform/

Now I know DS isn't big on sweating details, like facts or truth that doesn't fit his views, but some people actually like those details!

You believed this lie?

What the President's administration did was create a guideline for granting waivers to states interested in experimenting with how people transition from welfare to work.

Really that's your idea of the President's resume?

What about running a 700 person organization? If you're so knowledgeable about his background how did that escape your notice?

Mark. Mark. Mark. Who's distorting the truth, here?

I've only looked at you politi-bullshit link so far but, here's what they rated as "Pants On Fire" was this (which didn't appear in my OP):

quote:

"Under Obama’s plan (for welfare), you wouldn’t have to work and wouldn’t have to train for a job. They just send you your welfare check."

Oooooops!

That was a (?)TV(?) advertisement? I don't watch TV so, I wouldn't know. I do know that this is classic strawman as it doesn't appear anywhere in my OP. Nice try, though.

What I also found interesting was "president Ofailure's" response (ostensibly, as it came through his press secretary, Jay Carney):

quote:

"Gov. Romney himself, with 28 other Republican governors, supported policies that would have eliminated the time limits in the welfare reform law and allowed people to stay on welfare forever."

Your politi-bullshit fact checker rated that as false, also.

As you have, once again, changed my argument for me so you could find something to refute, I don't think I'll bother clicking on your second link (which didn't come up as a link, just so you know) because clicking is one thing but copying and pasting is too much work only to find out that you moved the goal posts in an effort to declare victory.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I think you're confused.

It's the Romney ad/claim, and your OP, that earned the "pants on fire" liar rating:

Mitt Romney, Monday, August 6th, 2012.

Ruling: Pants on Fire!

Mitt Romney released a campaign ad attacking President Barack Obama over a plan allowing states some flexibility in how welfare programs are administered.

The Romney ad declared that Obama was dropping requirements that say welfare recipients must seek jobs and job training. "They just send you your welfare check," the ad said. It was such a distortion, we rated it Pants on Fire!

DS....you are just too funny for reallity....

Your claim..."To sum up the link above, the current failure-in-chief has circumvented the 1996 "welfare-to-work" portion of the bipartisan reform bill"

The truth...
■Work requirements are not simply being “dropped.” States may now change the requirements — revising, adding or eliminating them — as part of a federally approved state-specific plan to increase job placement.
■And it won’t “gut” the 1996 law to ease the requirement. Benefits still won’t be paid beyond an allotted time, whether the recipient is working or not

Facts are just that...and you bought the bullshit....
