I wonder what all is dead around these?
Is this more aesthetically pleasing than windmills?

California is very strange.. I would see these things in peoples backyards in the city!.. I sure as heck would not buy property near them... I suppose the regular checks coming in make them more palatable...

The area in Wyoming where I used to go hunting had them for mile after mile.
The field played out about 20 years ago and the rigs are still there rusting.
One good thing about a wind farm is the field doesn't 'play out'.

This is how we do it here:

Yabbut... you have water to grow green stuff around those things! Much of California is desert and imo its rather ugly.. only so much ya can do to purdy it up..

Then what's the problem with putting windmills in it?

The new turbines are a vast improvement, bird wise, and more efficient. They use the sun to heat air, sending it rushing through the narrower top, turning the turbines. No exposed blades.

the critter thing if that is a protected area.. trade one ugly for another ugly? I dunno.. I have always liked water power, turbines in the ocean.. not sure if they suck up fishies tho or have any ecological negatives.. you dont see them and perhaps ocean currents are more reliable than wind? maybe one day when i own my own island..

I am less worried about the energy supply then the water supply. Producing clean energy is easy. Keepin fresh water clean is much harder when we keep pumping chemicals into the soil and soforth in our water.

Not a problem, Tj.  Nor, apparently, are the dead eagles on the ground around them.

Dead eagles ? Now you've made me laugh out loud.

The capitalist doesn't give a shit what or who he kills for a profit. He'll kill you if needs to.

We have dozens real people dead just in 2011 buried in coal mines, or just blown to kingdom cum in the BP fiasco. That amounts to corporate manslaughter and all without a grand jury.

When will the people of the west and these forums get real ? Almost the entire western world is ALL about money and who or what gets dead in the process is just the 'cost of doing business.'

Well the great swash-bucking, risk averse, greedy, chicken-shit, capitalist saw no profit in going to the moon.

They typically stand on the sidelines, hands in pockets until done, then with hands out looking for more welfare, stole every tech. improvement they could from what govt. financed...through all of that risk.

At least you get past those pretty quickly, Muse.  We went out storm chasing, after the power got knocked out at the house last evening.  One snap from a phone camera doesn't express how many miles of those things we passed through.

Coal and nuclear and petrol are very concentrated forms of power, they dont take up every inch of the planet to produce

Those photos of windmills in corn, guess what - even during severe drought, the Obama administration mandates that much of that corn be made into ethanol as poorer people on the planet go hungry

As fuel prices continue to rise, driving more and more people into record poverty remember that Obama is also blocking the keystone pipeline

The Keystone pipeline would be a potential disaster over the Ogallala Aquifer. It is already threatened by depletion. http://txpub.usgs.gov/HPWA/intro.html

Now a pipeline. Pipelines are prone to leak. See the List here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pipeline_accidents

The fact that the far left is driving the cost of energy up to the point the lower classes theyre creating cant afford any, or cant even afford to eat, should be pertinent to this la-la land "green energy" thread Rich

For the record, I dont think 100% wind, solar and water is possible but I think that if you toss fusion into the mix, we can exceed 90.

Fusion will always require more input power than we get out, barring a successful unified field theory and a way to manipuate gravity.
