I actually participated in the Rasmussen Poll....I am sure I was an anomoly....53 year old white male, with a good income and supporting the President. They asked quite a few convoluted questions....I think in how they asked the questions they were searching for a bit more than the actual question.

I've done 3 Rasmussen polls in my life and I got EXACTLY the same sense. like they were more interested in re-wording any side comments I was making during the questionnaire. My bet is that they are putting flesh on some foregone conclusion for a CLIENT.

Thats what they are paid to do.... the client wants the results they want.. and the company finds a way to get it.

I doubt you can even find a pitch anywhere in their literature, their pitch, etc. that say they do that. And there was a point in time, where more unbiased methodology was used and their clients were still the media. I guess I just feel nostalgic.

What gets released to the media from the polling companies, and the polls the media themselves sponsor, may reflect a desired result, but the internal polls, and the information and analysis the polling companies make you pay to see needs to be as accurate and detailed as possible. Every so often, someone will forward me a set of internal/paid polling results, and they are completely different things from what shows up in press reports.

Wow......all this sudden interest and need to explain how polling works and doesn`t work....... Never heard you expound so and with so much detail before rich...... Is it only a coincidence that Mitten`s numbers are fucked and getting fuckerer........?[:D] Everyone knows that one or two polls don`t make a trend or that they can change on any given day.It`s just a momentary snapshot. Folks who want to be accurate take all the polls and do spreads and computer models,taking the highs and the lows, to see the trend and the big picture... The trend for Mitten`s is either flat or going down. Remember the Palin bump? There`s NO Ryan bump and many folks,including republicans, say that Ryan won`t help and may hurt Romney.And,there are more than one pol that supports this conclusion. In the end tho,there`s only one pol that matters.....election day. This is the reason why cons are so desperate to keep free Americans from voting at the pols on election day.

What you're speaking of is commonly referred to as a "Push Poll" The questions are designed (whether intentionally or not) so that they be interpretted to the askers benefit. It happens on both sides, all the time. A "classic" example is: "Do you agree with ________'s policies or is the city/county/state/country moving in the wrong direction?" I haven't been called, this year, yet but I will be (registered Libertarian). I like to let the pollster know that I know what they're doing and I drive them nuts because (as in the example given, above) I tell them that they're asking two different questions and I'd rather answer them that way. The only poll that matters is on 06 NOV and ... wait for it ... dis shit's gettin' real. Peace and comfort, Michael
