Sanity -> Iran Threatens Israels Destruction (8/17/2012 11:02:04 PM)

Must be Friday, seems like this occurs every week

But, just like the way we are just supposed to accept that our vice president Joe Biden, the guy who is literally a heartbeat away from the presidency is a bumbling moronic clown, so too are we conditioned to just accept that Iran is diligently working toward and promising the incineration of millions of innocent people because it is their belief that all infidels must die

Real0ne -> RE: Iran Threatens Israels Destruction (8/17/2012 11:39:29 PM)

Pretty much.  The denials are a lot like reruns, too.  Wouldn't it be nice if we could still secretly, and deniably, use technology to keep them stumbling, or maybe found ways to support the Iranian people's version of the Arab Spring?

Sorry, Neda.  You died for nothing.

Tumblweed -> RE: Iran Threatens Israels Destruction (8/18/2012 1:25:43 AM)

Isn't Tom Ridge going to give us the teroroism color of the day ?

I'm glad you are in favour of democracy in the Middle East. I am too. I'd love to see operating in all the Arab countries and Iran too. That would mean "Arab Springs" in places like Palestine, Bahrain, Jordan and Saudi Arabia as well as the Syrias and Irans. And the West would have to learn to live with outcomes such as those in Libya and Egypt, where the locals decline to follow Western scripts and elected (Shock! Horror!) democratic Islamists to represent them, results that Sanity finds so objectionable.

Or is democracy only advocated for oil-rich countries? Is 'regime change' code for installing lackeys who will keep the oil flowing and make no problems for the West while they pocket the proceeds?

Yawns..........same shit, different day. Can you spell diatribe, because thats whats comming out or Iran on a regular basis.

erieangel -> RE: Iran Threatens Israels Destruction (8/18/2012 4:03:06 AM)

Eh, yeah, and Israel has been trying to secure US support for a preemptive strike against Iran.

Those two nations have been rattling the sabers at one another for years now.

Remember, Israel is the one with nukes--Iran may have been working on a nuclear weapon but isn't there yet.

Are you really advocating for the US to get involved in that mess?

Uh, yeah, we do accept it, or at least that they talk about it, but we do things about it. Stuxnet.

Absolutely, I support US involvement in that mess. Someone has to keep them from acting on their chest thumps.

Better to separate the two before something stupid happens.

I am wary of the Muslim Brotherhood. I don't deny that. I think we need to keep watch over that area even more now. I'm not disputing their election wins, but I am disappointed by the results (much like I'm disappointed and wary over Putin's election in Russia).

That has been the general plan execution in the past. It's wrong, I know. And, it's a huge reason why I was against our entry into the Libyan "Arab Spring." It isn't our place to decide who runs those countries. It's the place of the citizens of those countries.

I'm glad we've finally found something we can agree upon. I share your reservations about the MB, or any religion based political movement but to be perfectly honest, I find US Republicans far scarier and much more likely to create international conflict.

Israel has been playing the "Iranian nuclear threat" for over two decades now, repeatedly warning of an "imminent" Iranian nuke that has failed to materialise to date. Here's a short review of that history. Today over 20 years after the initial warnings, there is still no Iranian nuke. The judgement of all US intelligence agencies and Mossad is that Iran is NOT engaged in building nuclear weapons, nor is it planning to build them.

Why is this card being played so consistently now? Ex-AIPAC staffer MJ Rosenberg is pretty specific:
"That is because the primary fear motivating Netanyahu and Barak is not of Iran. It is that President Obama will be re-elected and will, after November, be significantly more immune to their demands for more Iran sanctions, support for some future Israeli strike against Iran and even for U.S.-back-up should an Israeli strike not be able to finish the job. "

If you cast your mind back to the 2008 election, that was also the occasion of the murderous Cast Lead onslaught on Gaza. So Israel has a history of using US elections to its advantage.

jlf1961 -> RE: Iran Threatens Israels Destruction (8/18/2012 6:40:37 AM)

Well if Romney is elected, we will send troops to Iran, another useless Republican war to get Americans and any other country that supports us killed.

Owner59 -> RE: Iran Threatens Israels Destruction (8/18/2012 6:49:59 AM)

Mittens said out loud and in public that he would let Israel write his middle east policy and call all the shots there....in so many words.

Pandering at its most embarrassing.....to the point of insult.

This was just after he insulted the Israelis with compliments about how good they were at business.......[8|].

Let us know when the Republicans start crucifying progressives, OK?

Keep drinking that fear based Kool-Aid the DNC keeps handing out.

Link fixed

mnottertail -> RE: Iran Threatens Israels Destruction (8/18/2012 7:04:47 AM)

Yup, the link that doesnt work, to avoid the fact that there are no facts.  But even when it works, its gonna be a neo-con blog.  So, we know its a lie.

Owner59 -> RE: Iran Threatens Israels Destruction (8/18/2012 7:11:27 AM)

Their tiny sliver of extremists would like nothing better than to scare our tiny sliver of extremists into starting WWIII.

The trick is and always has been,is to not give either of them the chance.

Sorry losers.........no world war three for you......[:D]

Uumm . . . no. The Israeli attack on Gaza took place on 27 December 2008, well after the November elections.

But thanks for the link to the Rosenberg column. He makes a lot of sense [:)]

But, more importantly Iran now has hundreds of pounds of uranium enriched to 27%. 27% has no civilian or medical uses. Power plants require 4% enrichment. This level of enrichment can ONLY be intended for nuclear weapons.

As I understand it at least 80% is requiered.

Maybe Iran is bluffing or maybe they also feel threatened.

Sanity -> RE: Iran Threatens Israels Destruction (8/18/2012 8:04:16 AM)

It seems like our greatest secrets are only good for bolstering a sagging campaign in the eyes of our current president though

Im not convinced that he takes his responsibility seriously, and thats giving him a lot of credit
