Honestly, I don't think that because people aren't into BDSM they are less smart and would just run to meet a stranger

never underestimate the status quo.

I've already seen this firsthand how stupid women seem to think and what they will do once they read this book. This book has more bad than good for relationships and women. It has come to represent women as horny harlequin bored and lazy housewives and the way I'm feeling these days, it's not far off from the truth.

SWDesertDom -> RE: -=Great profile photo and interests. I wanted to write but . . . =- (8/20/2012 8:41:07 PM)

I've decided I'm going to have to read these (shudder) sooner rather than later or (preferably) never.

Every sub I talk to has (some like them, some hate them). I guess I need to know what the common reference point is.

I highly recommend you listen to some of the audio version first [:D] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K1RcKJVbHA

Now...how to go about this without breaking TOS? There's a new profile who thinks she has one hole more than three to be used. I never did like biology at school - was no good at it either but.....maybe I AM missing something....

Belly button? Nostril? Tracheostomy?

Ostomy?

It's embarrassing that 50 Shades of Grey is what so many people think BDSM is like...

What is BDSM like?

For many not in the know, BDSM is associated with satanic rituals, black magic, child abuse, rape, snuff videos and dismemberment. I know this because I used to think that's exactly what BDSM was.
As far as I am aware, none of these misconceptions are re-enforced in '50 shades of gray'

GreedyTop -> RE: -=Great profile photo and interests. I wanted to write but . . . =- (8/21/2012 9:16:08 AM)

before I learned better, Maria, none of those things were what I thought of. My thoughts were more along the lines of "only abusers and folks with serious mental health issues" were involved in it.

Come on, with all the headlines about what happens to women who meet the odd guy from the internet, the whole "supervise your kids online, don't let the meet with strangers" and all that, if anybody hasn't realized that it is a very very stupid idea to just go and meet a stranger off the net in a less than public place, you can't really help them! Just like the guys who send X amount of money to women to verify they are "real", despite the big warnings...

But, but, but . . . satanic rituals, black magic, child abuse, rape, snuff videos and dismemberment are my favorite BDSM scenes when I am not busy with my mute online slave in an intense tap, tap, tap session. I bet tap, tap, tap isn't in 50 Shades of Grey either.

and see, Kalon? This is why I could never have been a proper, TWUE slave to you. as bad as I am wiht math, I'm even worse at codes!!

I just don't feel compelled to protect the stupid from themselves. Call it a limit, if you like. People take off with strangers for entirely vanilla reasons, and many do NOT wind up in an oil drum covered in lime.

I wonder where my Beauty books went... they were rehomed years ago. I wouldn't mind a pet Laurent... a less hairy one, though. Yep.

ClassAct2006 -> RE: -=Great profile photo and interests. I wanted to write but . . . =- (8/21/2012 10:14:51 AM)

The writing style of the book may not be to most people's tastes but (a) it is a very good description of how a dominant man feels and what will be in a D/s relationship and the particularly the problems you get if the woman is not sub and she is with a dom or vice vesa) and (b) it is very accurately described and safe.

The fact women might want a man who is a clever as they are and as good looking and earns whta they do or even more should not shock men. It is the prevailing ethos. In practice most of us instead end up with someone at the same level we are on whether that be high or low IQ, high or low income or whatever. Sometimes the very fat rich ugly man ends up with the poor pretty younger girl but these are the exceptions.

If a woman is being too demanding or you realise you are way below her and out of her league then don't blame her. Go out there and earn a fortune and buy better clothes and change your accent or lose 3 stone and then you might also find it easier to pick up girls. It's not rocket science.

LadyConstanze -> RE: -=Great profile photo and interests. I wanted to write but . . . =- (8/21/2012 10:34:21 AM)

Actually, I made a friend (who's a male dom) read a few chapters from the book, he called this Christian guy a "puzz and a twat" - so I don't think it's how all male dominants think...

The book is absurd, I mean yeah, there are so many handsome billionaires with big dicks who happen to be sex gods around, and of course in their mid 20's, of course they all fly copters and plan to feed the world...

I am actually reading those now. I just finished the second one, gotta go get the third one. I have forgotten what the actual thread started off being about. Lol haven't had any coffee yet, still fuzzy and zombie-fied.

Which is how Christian is portrayed, which seems to get lost amidst his other qualities:

I agree that they aren't compatible with you, but it seems unnecessary to denigrate them for trying to express their needs and desires. There may well be other people here who do offer what they are looking for, either light D/s, bondage, and sensation play, or cyber, or whatever. You come across as a bit sanctimonious about it.

I just bought a new set, in Target of all places. Today I got the third one and a very young teen was thumbing through it. She looked at me and asked if I ever read those books.

I said, yes I did and I honestly do not think you should read these without your Mom's permission. She said, well my Mom has the 50 Shades of Grey set so these seem the same.

I said, uh no, hon, they are definitely NOT the same. Run along now!! And she ran away from me.

Think I can trade in for a deluxe model there? If they offered rentals, would that be a red light special?

. . . I didn't think I could remember or follow the 15 rules and demands she made about contacting her. Jebus . . . I want this, I want that, I want the other thing and if your are handsome, rich and just like Mr Gray, I will grace you with access to my 3 holes. Someone call the press, another horny housewife thinks she's a sub.

There are some really cute 50 Shades of Grey fans flooding the site lately but Holy Shit Batman, the demanding submissives that think just having 3 holes to use is some blessing, not a requirement, are starting to become a majority. I seriously got to stop visiting the other side on the way into the forums.

Have you noticed an influx of Doms & submissives with strange attitudes lately and suspect they are a result of the 50 Shades books?

lol, thanks, i enjoyed your post and style of writing!

what you mention seems common to me. i.e., people seem to post what someone else calls "strange", or fake, or whatever it is that doesn't match WIITWD from their own POV. it may or may not be strange, not my call. conversely, being somewhat new to this board, i definitely have seen what appears to be an elitist attitude from some, but that's to be expected (from the more insecure in the group) from any cultural subgroup that has it's own lexicon and way of being.

to your point, i agree that it's probable that 50 shades of gray generated a lot more interest in BDSM, and that many "less experienced" people have added another twist to the evolution. to me, each new POV is currency and has value, even if i personally think it's wrong or stupid.

for the record, i hadn't even heard of the book until i became involved in this board. i kinda laugh at what reportedly is being passed off as BDSM. i say reportedly, cus i don't care to read the book or investigate further - the book and any social phenominon it's just that unimportant to me, at least at this point.
