Terifro -> Cutting? (8/23/2012 9:21:58 PM)

My partner and I want to explore the realm of cutting/blood sport. I've never done anything quite like this before, so have no idea where to start. I would like to draw enough blood for it to run, but realize that this is dangerous territory if you don't know what you're doing (and we do not). I'm not concerned about scarring, actually rather enjoy the idea (eventually), but for now just learning how to do it would be great. Any advice on tools/body parts/techniques?

Hi there and welcome to collarme!

I note that you live in Longmont, Colorado. There are several kinksters in the Denver area that enjoy scarification and blood play. I'm private messaging you the name of a prominent Denver Domme who's an expert in it (and hysterically funny to boot!).

This is not something you should learn over the Internet. Who knows what kind of idiots we are? And the ones with knowledge of edge play often decline to share it online because they don't know what kind of idiot their audience might be.

Do follow up with DS's recommendation.

A-fucking-men

I love being cut. I can go on and on about it, but I'll tell you one thing I won't do and that is allow someone who is inexperienced in it to do it to me unsupervised. Learning it on the internet is unacceptable.
So I would just be sure that you and your partner have some in person supervision, or find a class. It's a dangerous and wonderful thing. Wonderful! When done properly.

SpaceSpank -> RE: Cutting? (8/24/2012 3:38:39 PM)

I'll concur with what is above. This isn't something you want to just start hacking away at (literally and figuratively). You have local resources, use them.

Also invest in some quality implements. Don't just pick up some random knife and get to cutting. You will want one(s) that you can keep sharp and clean.
Always remember that a dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one.

Another vote for learning in person. That will allow you to learn not only the skill, but also the safety and sanitary concerns. I love this kind of play. I am so glad that I didn't just take a stab at it. (Bad pun, but you get what I'm saying.)

I hope you will take Dark Steven's suggestion for people who can teach you.

I will add that budding tattoo artists practice for depth on orange peel. Evidently its a decent analog for human skin. But everyone who has endorsed learning in person is spot on. There is another way....

Don't cut. Take a butter knife and swish it around in ice water (or hot water, but be careful about burns). Then drag the dull blade over the skin. The top should not be trying to cut, but the sensation is not entirely different from a real cut. This is, in part, how mock castrations are done.

This is also a great way to find out if cutting is really something you'd enjoy or not since you're getting the feeling of it without actually breaking skin.

Another vote from me of Bambi being again spot on!

Lucifyre

p.s. I swear I'm not stalking you LOL

An orange peel is far thicker and a much different texture than human skin. It doesn't matter much for tattoo or branding practice, but cutting or needles is a whole other ball game. For that, you want to get a peach or another thin skinned fruit that is also soft on the inside. (Example, an apple will mislead you about how much pressure to use.)

I'm from Florida, so I have thick skin and sweet soft oranges <3.

Actually they usually use grapefruits, and I don't think this would work at all for learning cutting, as so much depends on the tension of the skin.

No matter who you learn from I also recommend learning standard precautions, first aid, and sterilization practices.

ALWAYS use sterilized disposable blades.

Don't learn from anyone who doesn't show common sense. I've seen some whacked shit with box cutters and razor blades. Don't learn from those guys.

Yet another vote for joining a class, going to seminars, getting a mentor or learning in person. Cutting when done wrong can have terrible consequences. The borderline between perma-damage and play is very narrow and best learned by example in person.

Just wanted to add, drawing enough blood for it to run is getting into territory where you MUST understand anatomy, first aid, standard precautions and sterilization and MUST learn from someone. Also when you get to that extent with it scarring is not often an EVENTUALLY sort of thing, it is going to happen.

Cutting is also not always the best technique for getting a lot of bleeding.

BambiBoi -> RE: Cutting? (8/26/2012 11:31:11 AM)

Showmanship.

On the issue of fruit skin, I ate a navel orange today. The zest seemed as thick as human skin, of course I am not including the pitch. Dr. Wikipedia suggests that human skin is 2-3mm thick. I broke out a jewelers loupe with 0.1mm markings. (Despite the facade of a giddy bimbo, this is Science Bambi). The thickness of the zest for that particular orange was 1.6-1.8mm, thinner than human skin.

I don't have any grapefruits because I buy the glass canned slices. Oh man, those are great. Lately I've been dropping a few over a leafy salad instead of croutons.
