Why should McDonald's pay for an employee to study pyschology?

Why should McDonald's exist?

Because it benefits the human beings in the country... at least in theory.

Worth keeping in mind when we're talking about the "rights" of corporations and how they balance with the "rights" of individuals.

For BIG companies, yes, DomKen. Many companies are small, and there is no way they'd be able to finance leaves of that sort AND replace the missing employee. They would need some kind of state support for it.

Right now, Italy has negative population growth. My family over there are scrambling. The younger generations aren't breeding because they can't afford to. It makes sense to encourage more family growth. We have too many people here in the states, and many of the babies are born to teens and poor families. We could hand out birth control in the streets and it wouldn't matter. What are those kids going to do for a living?

Our system is full of fail, and the kids are the ones suffering.

I've been thinking about how to get myself relocated to Europe or Canada for the last ten years or so. It's tougher than you might think.

Marriage?

Up here, the tax software is the main problem with passing the polyamory bill, so I've been thinking about whether me and Ars should try to "import" people with marketable skills and a compatible culture. I figure others elsewhere have thought about the same thing. And, yes, while you guys debate whether or not to be legalizing gay marriage, we debate how many husbands a guy can have...

I call dibs on Peon.

I have a feeling his comment was basically concerning big companies only. Can't they spare some of that tax break money they're always getting? Even going by more conservative ideology, isn't that what "trickle down" is supposed to be about?

Like HELL you do.

Too late. I called it.

How much do we want to strain companies? Now, they have to pay for the personal choices of employees that don't benefit the company?

German industry seems to be doing quite well despite the "strain." How would you explain that?

Seems like a good proLife agenda, doesn't it?

You're welcome to that, though cute boy has a lovely loveliness AND is a proven breeder.

And yes, gentlemen, this is how educated women think. Now you know.

Are you comparing having children to drunk driving?

Guess we'll just have to wait for the poly laws, then. I think Ars would kill me if I used the single slot for politics. [:D]

Thank you for re-posting that.

I was giving another example of personal choice that does nothing to enhance the company.

Subsidized personal choices are a long, slippery slope.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Granted, there might be something to your slippery slope argument.

However, reproduction pretty much stands alone as a social, political, economic, personal, and biological issue, don't you think?

DaddySatyr -> RE: Oh yeah....makes my ovaries tingle just thinking about it (8/25/2012 11:04:31 AM)

I believe it is a personal choice; plain and simple.

Ever since 1973 in this country, no one that doesn't want to have a baby (except a male) has been forced to assume that responsibility.

I don't care what personal choices you make, as long as they don't affect me. As a person who is self-employed and looking forward to expanding my business, why should I have to pay for your personal choices?

Where does it end? Do I have to pay for my receptionist to get her nails done? Do I have to pay for my maintenance man to go get his bottle of Jack Danials on a Friday night? I don't care if my receptionist has a French manicure. If I required it, I'd be liable for the cost.

I am liable for my maintenance man's uniform because I require he wear safe clothing. I'm not liable for his bottle of booze.

Now, if a lady's baby is going to benefit my company, I guess I'd be willing to pay her for maternity leave. But, as it stands, now; being a parent is her personal choice and it doesn't benefit me a bit (in fact, it costs me money because I have to pay someone to replace her). I am NOT speaking against family leave. I'm speaking against paid family leave.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Edited to add: I would support up to two years of unpaid family leave but why should I pay, twice to fill one position?

Only if they're diseased.

Topic. Look it up.
