And thus was born The Man in the Gray Suit.

Overall, I like the term middle space. Thanks for the thoughtful comments. Time for me to let others have the last word, but count me in the camp who characterizes penetration as masculine & being penetrated as feminine -- an observation objectively supported by anatomy and sexual percentages.

But that's just it. I've asked guys what they like about strap-ons, and in response they tend to bring up the whole "role reversal" thing. The inference I make is that to them, strap-on play = role reversal = feminization of the male = the male feels humiliated.
Not to downplay your frustration on the matter. I've run into some who have brought this to the table. For Me, that's an automatic sign of incompatibility. I'm kind of big on males that can be strong enough in their submission and masculinity not to fall back on their "feminine side" in order to submit. Sex of any kind with Me being humiliating isn't the vibe that I want in My bedroom. Anybody who has to feel like they are less in any way to endure engaging with Me can just keep on walking.

Well yes, I agree. I am very glad for all the people here who have said this and similar things. To know that you feel this way helps me feel more secure about my style of dominance. Now I don't need to wonder if something is wrong with me the next time some guy spouts this crap and makes my stomach twitch.

MaleBitchLA -> RE: Role "Reversal" (8/28/2012 5:28:55 PM)

The "Role-Reversal" that I have seen most often is actually where an older person becomes the sub of a younger person.
In every-day life, older persons usually have some 'standing' or authority over younger persons.
Think: Parents, Teachers, Coaches, etc. A role-reversal can be where the older sub is spanked by a younger person,
or where the decisions in a relationship are made by the younger one, and the older one is to obey.
So, in many profiles where I have seen the words "role-reversal" it is where a 'parent' is disciplined by their grown-up son/daughter;
or a coach is dominated by his younger, former athlete; or where a corrupt Teacher is caned over the desk by their student.
The role-reversal is simply that: the roles get reversed. Each example will be different depending on what the roles begin as, and then how they are reversed.

It's always them, hon![:D]

Seriously, with all the possible permutations of kink, don't let someone's ideas make you feel bad about your own, just say NEXT!

That's a great post, Baroana. To add my two cents:

I think your examples are targeted to USA puritanical attitudes. Men wearing drag in the UK don't have the same taboo as here, perhaps because of the history of all-boys' schools in the UK, and someone needed to play the female parts in the school plays. Whatever the reason, drag queen seems like a much more respected job on that side of the pond, and playing crying games over there is less likely to get you killed.

Similarly, men in drag seems more humorous than disgusting in Japan, though both Japan and the UK definitely have issues about the status of women in those countries. The manifestation is different though.

Also, I think a woman in the US who wears man's pants, and a man's shirt, and it isn't her boyfriend's shirt, is risking being called a dyke in public. I've certainly seen it happen, in central California (not North Carolina).

I forgot to mention the most egregious example of them all.

How many American men have gotten married and adopted their wives' last names? Not hyphenated, not hybrid, just a straight up trade of his last name for hers.

Talk about a taboo that would make family and friends suck the air out of the room with their collective gasping. I don't think I'd even have the nerve to try such a gambit.

Can we please stop the bullshit about how receiving strap on play is feminine? It is a ridiculous claim that a male enjoying a form of anal play is anything less than a man. It's about as silly as people who decide that any male who likes anal play must be homosexual.

I couldn't of said it any better...

But that's just it. I've asked guys what they like about strap-ons, and in response they tend to bring up the whole "role reversal" thing. The inference I make is that to them, strap-on play = role reversal = feminization of the male = the male feels humiliated.

That's interesting. I've never tried it, myself. But, presumably, the flip-side for the females using strap ons would *not* be that they feel any sense of role reversal, thus masculinisation, thus empowerment/superiority (or whatever is the opposite of 'humiliation')? None of such feelings apply?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Role "Reversal" (8/29/2012 5:56:41 PM)

Not for me. It's just fun. Fisting is the power connection.

There is no power in the 'verse that could make me feel MASCULINE. The very idea makes me shudder.

Actually, another inference I have made from these strap-on discussions with various guys is that, yes, they do believe sporting a pretend penis will make a woman feel more powerful.

I like the way SaharahEve stated it with the canary comment in her post above. To paraphrase: Penis. BFD.

Heh. Likewise re me and feeling feminine. Unless we're talking of 'feminine' as in 'feminine side' as per Jung, of whom I'm a bit of a fan, but that's something quite different.

Entirely different. I won't deny the presence of an animus.[;)]

What *do* women get from using strap ons, then? I'm not able to recall any detailed description of feelings. Nothing about power, control, and so on?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Role "Reversal" (8/29/2012 6:08:59 PM)

Haven't you read Tantriqu's comments? It's fucking. People seem to enjoy it.

FR

Whoops - sorry, I think I may have endangered a derailment of the thread with my question. No worries - I can always do a search and find out what women have said about how and why they enjoy using strap ons.

As you all were. [:)]
