Local dollar store here sells bamboo rods, 2 for a 1.50$ (they're about 3 feet long). Get them thin enough and they make great canes - also wards off home invaders.. well okay maybe not but who wants to break into a house and get beat with a stick? They even come in multiple colour choices.

I've used em in bondage, or as canes. (I have pictures coming to me, the photographer is processing them)

It's better to have one well-made thing from The StockRoom than of a pile of home-made crap.

But to play along, Cracker Barrel sells a ping pong paddle thingie for $5 that a lot of people on the web liked, but we found was too thuddy.

I found that I prefer a home made gag type thing he does with a washcloth by folding it and tying it with a piece of rope over the usual ball type gags that are sold. I can bite the cloth, it soaks up the drool, and I can spit it out if I need to tell him something. It's not great on sound muffling, but we have found that any other gag we've tried doesn't keep me quiet either. Plus I have a small mouth, the ball gags hurt after a while. If it's a nice fluffy cloth on the luxurious side you can use one otherwise use 2 thin ones.

Bamboo splinters when it breaks. It also have incredible sharp edges when it breaks. Use with caution if you're doing anything but a very light spanking with it. Especially when the bamboo is thin enough to be broken easily.

Clothespins! I like the way they feel better than metal clamps anyway.

You can also use a ruler or flat hairbrush for a paddle, and soft rope or Ace bandages for bondage. You can a collar and leash at the pet store for not too much.

And things like humiliation, spanking and hair pulling are of course free.

Go into your kitchen. (This presumes that you are a person who cooks. )

The dollar store is a thing of wonder. If you can't come up with an array of sensation toys for less than twenty bucks...well, I don't know what to type out loud.

I despise makeshift things, but not everything needs to LOOK like a kinky thing to have the effects you want.

There was an article in the local Alternative newspaper here that mentioned using scarfs is an easy, cheap item that can be used for a number of reasons. There is lots of things people can do on a budget.

When you go with budget items you need to be more careful about what is being used more forcibly than designed or for insertion when not designed for that. Also, avoid long-term exposure to MacGyvers.

But here are some ideas, mostly compiled from looking around the room:

Electrical tape is cheaper bondage tape.
Most rubber coated wires make decent single tails.
Clothespins, as mentioned above, are great. Tie a string through them so a line of them can be snapped off in one agonizingly refreshing tug.
There are a few ideas for hoods, but I'm afraid that my advice will end in asphyxiation, so we'll skip those.
Arrow and golf club shafts can be bought fairly cheap, and are probably better than $0.75 decorative bamboo rods.
Ice.
Athletic mouth guards make decent gags.
Duct tape. Gorilla tape if you want to make sure all the hair comes off with it.
The kitchen, like Lady Hibiscus was saying, is full of fun tactile toys: Pastry wheels and wooden spoons come to mind.
Rope is cheap and the education to make it sexy and powerful can be free. A must-do for the impoverished and wealthy alike.
Some people like zip ties, but I find them very dangerous. They're ok if they aren't touching your body, like to bind a cuff to a bedpost. A zip tie is NOT an acceptable cock ring.

OK gang . . . I'm calling on samdarella to post here.

She found a way to build a device that cost $0.56 and took all of a few minutes to build and it is an AWESOME paddle stick. Seriously, I was walking through Lowes and she says, "if you glued two those together, they would make a nice paddle". Well, I bought them, glued them together, drilled a hole in the handle for a service loop, sanded and stained them. They are awesome . . . if you hold them with a lose grip while spanking her in the sweet spot, you can hear the wood resonate and it is orgasmic for her (a sexual masochist). I have made her cum a dozen times with it already and it is a permanent addition to my collection, hanging proudly next to custom commissioned paddles that cost a hundred(s) of dollars crafted from exotic woods.

samdarella . . . tell the story baby.

Yup, I sand down any splinters after every time I use them. I'm not expecting them to last forever but hey, they've been a source of great fun for only a couple bucks.

I put a few ideas on the other thread already (sorry, I read that one first). Nearly every household item can have a practical "play" application; the only question is whether it will suit the play you want right at that moment!

For the particularly evil, I gently recommend cheese graters, or fish hooks.

For the romantics, write a poem and for each line read aloud, insert, or swat.

Bondage affectionados have belts, curtain cords, speaker wires, strips of cloth from old bedding neatly cut, and who can live without duct tape?

I'm just naming things that are within my reach right now. With me you're better off to name the kink, and I can tell you what you can use!

~ MacGyver

I've almost never used anything but my bare hands (okay, my teeth get involved sometimes too) in my "BDSM". I own a Hitachi Magic Wand and a few lengths of rope that cost me 50c, but almost never need them.
What is it you're trying to do, that's so expensive? Maybe if you told us that, we could help think of cheap ways of doing it.

You can do the same thing with this as you do with cheap dowels and the like as spreader bars. Wrap them in something that will prevent those splinters from going anywhere.

You can use electrical tape, duct tap, that paint on rubber stuff for flooring, medical adhesive tape, ace bandages, etc. All depends what kind of texture you want for it. And unless you get super fancy it won't add much to the cost at all.

Smiling remembering the sweet sound of the wood singing as it strikes my ass. The paddle ResidentSadist speaks of is just two of the large paint stirrers put together. Have you ever had your mouth speak before your brain catches up to it. That's me sometimes. We were actually looking for animal print duck tape to put a stripe on another recycled paddle that Master had sanded and stained. (Another of our favorites). As we passed the paint stirrers, without thinking I just commented that when you put two of them together they can be quite wicked. Well being a sadist He loves anything wicked. So they got added to the cart. 56 cents for the stirrers, a piece of sandpaper, a coat of stain, and a piece of leather cord to hang it from. Less than $3 total I'm sure. And the size is perfect for fitting right in the sweet spot or other crevices.

I haven't had time to read whole thread and for that I apologize. I'm at work. Yes it's a great job that I can read and post to CM at work.

Some other budget items have used in the past:
Chopsticks with o rings or small rubber bands
Bath brush
Wooden dowel for a cane
Plastic rod from window blinds
Deshedder
Religious candles
Electric fly swatter

So while I do love the feel of kangaroo and moose etc., it's not the implement that matters, it's who is wielding it that makes bdsm so much fun.
