Would you call him fair and balanced ?

Not for a moment, Polite, but that standard doesn't appear anywhere in his job description, either.  He looks at the facts, assembles them into an interpretation, and presents his case.  His job is to be intellectually honest in doing so, and I would call him that.

If you want to apply a "fair and balanced" standard anyway, then I'll note that the primary voice in the soundtrack is D'Souza, but right behind him are the President's own words, spoken by the President, in the audio version of "Dreams From My Father," and news clips.

from what I understand(sight unseen) is nothing more than a political hit piece,done for the short term goal of influencing an election.In other words the cheapest basest propaganda of the "big lie" variety.

That, Mike, qualifies as commenting on what is in it.

Yes it does...to a point,just like I can comment,sight unseen on what might,or might not be,in the new Batman movie ?
Are you suggesting I am un qualified ?

Since you admit to not having seen the movie, you are indeed unqualified to deem it nothing more that a political hit piece...

You want some real propaganda of the "Big Lie" variety? How about Obama claiming (in "Dreams From My Father") that his parents were married, and he was born, out of their experiences during the Civil Rights March in Selma Alabama? The "Big Lie" being that since the Civil Rights March in Selma Alabama occurred in 1965 and Obama claims to have been born in 1961, either the former is a "Big Lie" or the latter is a "Big Lie".

To speak about the movie in a first-hand knowledgable way?  Absolutely.  And it seemed you agreed with that premise for a minute, before apparently deciding you did have a compulsion to participate after all.

You see, Mike, getting your information and forming your opinion from say the NYT review will give you exactly what someone wants you have.  You'll read about D'Souza not doing very well in the segment with the President's brother George, but have no idea of the power in the moment when the President describes his mother yelling at his stepfather that Americans were not, "her people."

I don't know if the production could have been stopped from using the "Dreams From My Father," audio-book, but if they could have been, I'm betting a head rolled, somewhere.

TheHeretic -> RE: Seeing 2016: Obama's America (film) (8/26/2012 8:49:08 AM)

Your nonsense is addressed in the film as well, Jim.  The movie says he was born in August of 1961, in Hawaii, and that it was reported in two local newspapers at the time.  Then he remains reality based.

The movie also brings up one of President Obama's influences, a "founding father" of his ideology, as the film labels the men, who refused to speak about his role to anyone, because his opening his mouth could only hurt Obama.

Birthers could take a lesson from that.

I know this is off topic but that post is fucking GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Seeing 2016: Obama's America (film) (8/26/2012 2:10:44 PM)

to those asking if it's "Fair and/or balanced"

It isnt....it isn't supposed to be. Noone claims it is except the hardcore Koolaid drinkers.

It's the other side of Michael Moore.

Everyone who makes a movie or writes a book has one (or both) of these 2 purposes.

1. Entertain

2. Convince you to think the way they do

Most are both but this one seems to toss off all pretense of the former.
Was it timed to try to influence the elections? Well, DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
So were a thousand other things.
I'm just surprised it isnt available in this area as we're about as hardcore Right as it gets. Seriously, it's been over a century since this district elected a Democrat for the statehouse. You'd think they would want to preach to the choir a bit.

Yeah it did half the business of the very crappy Expendables 2. Quite an achievement.

Got a very basic question for those who liked the movie, If being anti colonial is a bad thing when did America become an empire and are you really in favor of the actions necessary to maintain such?

Your link has updated, Hillwilliam.  The film moved from 13th to 8th.  Word of mouth, and Facebook shares are powerful things.

Lucylastic -> RE: Seeing 2016: Obama's America (film) (8/27/2012 6:42:28 AM)

Obama's America -- promoted heavily on talk radio and distributed by Rocky Mountain Pictures -- timed its nationwide expansion to the Republican National Convention, which gets underway this week in Tampa, Fla.

America became an Empire in the traditional sense in 1901 but gave up the Philippines in 1946. "They" are in denial that we are an Empire through economic and military interventions. . . . see Iraq, Afghanistan nation building crap.

DOM68005 -> RE: Seeing 2016: Obama's America (film) (8/27/2012 8:12:50 AM)

Let's see if the media treats this film maker as they did Michael Moore.

I still have no idea why they made that comedian a millionare.

Lucylastic -> RE: Seeing 2016: Obama's America (film) (8/27/2012 8:47:58 AM)

The same reason they are making D'Souza millionaire
sensationalism and maybe some facts...depending on your political bent and bias confirmation.
