CERCKL -> RE: Watching what you say (6/11/2006 2:30:56 PM)

I think there is a difference between typing too fast, mispelling a word and actually having a post which needs to be deciphered because the speeling is so bad; slim perhaps but a difference. I also notice that alot of the time those flamed are those who are trying to come across as uber-intelligent and then create sentences which would have a preschooler rolling on the floor giggling and peeing his pants.
I also think that we just expect each other to be so damned intelligent and better than others that we cannot deal with the fact that none of us will ever have a hagiography written about us and have little tolerance for those who threaten that illusion.
Either that or we're just petty, little people with no life and are out to pull everyone else down to our pitiful, lacking level of shit existence.

C

Edited cuz I had no idea what 'mispeeling' was...

Clear communication in a text based forum such as this is vital.  I have never, and probably will never, flame someone for poor spelling or grammar.  If I cannot understand a post, I skip it.  An ocassional spelling error that does not detract from the message is no big deal. (I misspell things too)  A post that is written so poorly that it takes effort to decipher what the person is trying to say is not worth my time.

If someone cannot communicate clearly, they are simply ignored.

I see it more as laziness than ignorance.  There are numerous tools available to correct spelling and grammar that are free and easy to use.

Precisely!  Well, I do have a tendency to correct spelling, but I try really hard to curb it.  Really.  I do.

Feastie, theres nothing wrong with occasionally letting someone know they mispell something. I do it as well, if its a friend and they just happen to mispell a word, because I know they would want to *know* its incorrect.

What I feel is wrong is when someone is just a bad speller for whatever reason, and people ridicule them for lack of intelligence.  It just gets on my last nerve.

As far as spell check...I never use it, but wouldnt it screw up all the acronyms??

Chatted with him a few times. He reminds me of a dude I grew up with. He's an alright guy, your styles just clashed. You're much more restrained and diplomatic; he's no-nonsense and takes no prisoners.

Just think what would have happened if the couple of dudes who you've argued with in the last few weeks had argued with him instead - They probably woulda walked away a quit posting. See all the mail you've been receiving –  I bet he was receiving twice as much  ; }

fergus -> RE: Watching what you say (6/11/2006 9:48:01 PM)

I'm reasonably good with spelling and grammer.  Even so it was MORE THAN ONCE that I found a PM in my inbox from a person or two who took issue with my spelling.  Now THAT'S someone commited to education.  ;)
