I avoid the Introductions area for the most part. It makes things easier for me. If I see something that looks good on the scroll, I'll pop in to encourage the good, or to enjoy the snarkage.

I've gotten maybe three gold letters in all my years on here.
Grins
And I argued em, each and every time and twice the mod agreed with me from a personal POV but didn't from a mods perspective.
That said, I have had some posts yanked recently and failed to receive a letter so I'm not sure where those things stand...

I've gotten quite a few "your posts have been removed" notices lately.

in the past, I have gotten a number of "play nice or else" mod letters. Apparently I DO manage to play nice for a while, since those gold emails are widely spaced apart.

Just laughs. They don't bother telling me when my posts get removed, it happens so often, and the mods know I truly don't give a shit, it just makes more work for them. And really, the mod's job has to suck big time.

I do get the occasional gold letter when I go firmly over the line, but it's not that often, considering. I * have* mellowed in my old age.

I've never been on moderation of even close to it. Of course, I happen to have this male domly type person in my life who doesn't look all that kindly to me needing my behavior reined in by others. He's just a big meanie like that.

Ok, I just read this entire forum. Comments

1-Hey mods. You do a tough thankless job. Yeah, IMHO you don't bat 1000%. But hey, neither do I, nor anyone I know.Kudos to you for doing it.

2-Mods, especially Gamma- thanks for apologizing and giving a peek into what goes on to get a thread yanked. More kudos for listening and responding on this thread

3-All that said, I'm with LP here. It really really sucks to put time and effort into a thread, especially one that has some really solid content, then just see it disappear with little to no warning.
And it's even worse when a bad post provokes some good shit, which happens pretty frequently. I know that's why some of the old posters left and I've been inclined to do so at times in the past as well. There was a while there where it seemed any forum worth a squat got yanked and it left me feel like I was wasting my time posting-I mean, why bother taking the effort to put up a good reply if it's only gonna be gone ASAP.
Seriously, the whole Haitch House fiasco left me with one foot out the door because of that very syndrome.

There's gotta be a better happier medium than yanking the entire thread when the OP is a fake or banned. Heck maybe hold all initial topics for a brief period of time (An hour or so) until the post and the OP can be vetted by the mods-that way we don't waste time and effort on banned folk only to see the entire thread yanked. Or something. But it's damn frustrating to spend a lot of time participating in a good discussion with lots of valuable information only to see it, and all the energy expended, go *POOF* like Wile E in a Roadrunner cartoon

When I first came here in 2005, I got into it with Moderators ONE and THREE. Yeah. Why? Over a censorship issue. I was not the one being censored, either, it was a person whose posts were not in line with the personal feelings of the moderator. It was great. I got snide remarks aimed at me on the boards, nastygrams to my private email address, my posts were on moderation for WEEKS, no explanation. I finally came up with my sock account so I could come on the boards and say, Listen, just ban me already. And thus LadyHibiscus was born, and allowed to post.

Mod XI? A cupcake. Of course, she and I always got along great.

Anyway, the origins of the SHUTUPHIB filter go back that far. Much as I have hate for Fetl, it's good to be able to go there and say anything at all.

I think when I started ignoring the gold emails, I stopped receiving them. Whether the two things have anything at all to do with one another, I do not know.

I am just at the point in life where my give a damn is mostly broken. Or I've learned to focus it in areas where I really do give a damn. That tends to be a pretty pin point narrow perspective and has nothing at all to do with anything collarme oriented.

I put out here a pretty authentic version of part of me. It doesn't always translate well into the written language. I get that. It is what it is.

Hib = WYSIWYG

I am putting out the authentic me, just not every single thought that wants to leap out of my keyboard. That's okay, too, there are things that really shouldn't be said, and I am not just referring to snark.

ETA: okay, that is not true about the wysiwyg. What I put out is real, I can't be bothered to fake, but it's been pointed out that icebergs are mostly under the water and all that... so I just don't share as much as some other folk might.

When I first came to CM forums, the moderation was seriously over the top. You couldn't even say fuck. Threads were not allowed to naturally evolve the way they are now.

Although the forum's humor value has always been quite high, the sadistic snark value was nil, since even a hint of snark got pulled.

I much prefer things the way they are now.

I do wish there was even less moderation though. I think some of the best threads are the train wreck threads where we just start jamming with each other, but then the thread inevitable gets pulled.

<big whine here>

Most of the regulars have told me at one time or another to not bother sending them golden mail; if they want to know why their post was pulled they'll contact me. Cool. Less work for me. Most often, I pull posts that quote another post that had to be pulled. If you use the quote feature, you run that risk. If you said something particularly brilliant and want to repost it, we can send you a copy of it.

Hey 21, when are ya gonna give Chi her Gold pen and a nice sign on her door? As of yesterday, she still had that bright red NoobDommeMod sign on her door. We wanna keep her.

True, dat.

And I so *do* censor myself. Not so much with regular posters, although there are a few I have to bite my tongue and not send that nasty ass post through the air waves. It's more the idiot troller who has hit my "I'll try being nicer when you try being smarter" button.
