Many times, what appears to be a personal attack to the frangible amongst us are just statements of fact that do not show one in the wrong light of their much fantasized roles as knowldegeable and analytically suave.

"It's the Viagra problem for guys in their 20s," Trueman said. Young males are now spending "10 to 12 years looking at porn on the Internet and masturbating to it, so when they are getting married, they are dysfunctional sexually because their brain maps are changed. They enjoy what they've been doing for 10 to 12 years. Normal sex is not something that gets them excited."

I have no problem with porn in moderation, but not when it creates dysfunction for having sex with real live women.

He's Just Not That Into Anyone

...“Pornography? It’s a new synaptic pathway.” This is what John Mayer said in a candid interview with Playboy. “You wake up in the morning, open a thumbnail page, and it leads to a Pandora’s box of visuals,” he continued. “There have probably been days when I saw 300 vaginas before I got out of bed.”

Porn’s allure and ubiquity isn’t exactly titillating news. The question that still remains, however, is how this tsunami of porn is affecting the libido of the American male or, more selfishly, mine. First I came across a post on Sanjay Gupta’s blog by Ian Kerner, a sexuality counselor, who wrote that he noticed a distinct rise in the number of men approaching him with concerns about delayed ejaculation. Kerner went on to attribute much of the problem to a “rapid proliferation of Internet porn” which leads to “over-masturbation,” something I’m very familiar with. Then I read about a University of Kansas study that found that 25 percent of college-age men said they’d faked orgasms, which, I’ll admit, was oddly comforting to hear. But it wasn’t until I interviewed dozens of men with varying porn-watching habits (and a few very open-minded women) that some unexpected themes began to emerge. Porn is not only shaping men’s physical and emotional interest in sex on a very fundamental neurological level, but it’s also having a series of unexpected ripple effects—namely on women.

For decades, hand-wringers have warned of a porn epidemic that would tear the nation’s moral fabric asunder. But if online porn has spread a sickness, it’s one that’s less like Ebola and more like a midwinter cold. The initial symptom for a lot of guys who frequently find themselves bookmarking their favorite illicit clips appears to be a waning desire for their partners. Jonas*, a 34-year-old ad exec, told me, “I get on SpankWire or X Videos—you could carve ice sculptures with my dick. I take a girl home from the bar, though, and I’ll be up for a minute while she’s going down on me, but once I put a condom on and we start going at it, it’s like the Challenger exploded—all the flags are at half-mast.”

...Is it possible that porn is causing men to detach from their partners in more profound ways? Though porn research is the subject of much debate and barb-flinging (with religious groups seizing on any study to prove that porn and masturbation are wrong), scientists speculate that a dopamine-oxytocin combo is released in the brain during orgasm, acting as a “biochemical love potion,” as behavioral therapist Andrea Kuszewski calls it. It’s the reason after having sex with someone, you’re probably more inclined to form an emotional attachment. But you don’t have to actually have sex in order to get those neurotransmitters firing. When you watch porn, “you’re bonding with it,” Kuszewski says. “And those chemicals make you want to keep coming back to have that feeling.” Which allows men not only to get off on porn but to potentially develop a neurological attachment to it. They can, in essence, date porn.

And as tripod-in-the-corner porn evolves into a high-def wonderland, our grasp on whether we’re watching sex or actually having sex may, with the help of oxytocin, loosen. Many of the men I interviewed spoke of the charge they get from watching their favorite porn actresses. But they also had a tendency to describe the act of watching porn as though it were a real sex act they had participated in—making their emotional investment in porn all the more concrete. “I love when Kasey [Kox] is fully clothed and smiling at me from her bed, or I’m doing her from behind,” says Ron, the architecture student. “I get one glimpse of Kasey and I’m so turned on. I get dizzy.”

Your Brain on Porn

Science teacher Gary Wilson explains the evolutionary forces behind porn’s appeal, how the brain changes in response to super-normal stimulation, what makes today’s porn different from static porn of the past, and what you need to know to regain your sense of direction if you're hooked on porn.

This presentation is not an argument against pornography, nor does it suggest what percentage of Internet porn users become addicted. It was created for anyone who has an Internet porn addiction, or wants to understand Internet pornography addiction

So the solution would be to not wait until they are married with having sex but rather buying a pack of condoms and find some nice girls and get experimenting. I mean if all you have is porn for 12 years then that might be rather frustrating, porn is fun and all but it is not a substitute for the real thing.

The problem is the the GOP see sex as a evil thing that is only acceptable to do if one is trying to have children. They would prefer that no one (except them of course when they cheap on their wives and husbands) have sex other than in missionary position, with the light turned off, as quickly as possible, with someone they are married to with the nursery already set up, the problem is the human nature do not work like that, humans like sex and that is how it is, and unless humans get sex we tend to get frustrated and no good comes from that.

I wish you well

Or maybe, just maybe, they actually respect the power of sex (both babies AND bonding) instead of treating it like a cheap thrill?

I find it interesting when a person who is a member of a group who has no standing as a "leader" or a "spokesperson" tries to speak for that group. Unless they have some endorsement from the group, as a whole, to speak on that group's behalf, their words mean nothing.

I find it even more interesting (In a "may you live in interesting times" kind of way) when someone isn't even a member of a group and they attempt to speak for that group, using their own slant and projecting their prejudices onto that group. I'm pretty sure it falls into the "erecting a strawman" category.

Let's forget, for the moment, that I dare say that there is no large group of people where everyone thinks the same way about everything.

To assume that the words of small minority speak for millions of other people passes the realm of the credible.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Congress does it every day unfortunately. They let their biggest donors shove a fist up their ass and move their lips and voting fingers like Jeff Dunham and Walter much to the consternation of the millions of voters who wish otherwise.

Unfortunately, though, a pluralty of us voted for them. As far as what I was saying, that makes them a "leader". We may not like where they're going but ...

We did vote for them Michael but do they do as we ask or do they do as one or 2 of their big donors ask?
Who should Joe Congressman listen to? Should he listen to 100,000 voters who cast a ballot for him or should he listen to one lobbyist who has a briefcase full of cash? Should he vote for what will help the folks back home or should he do what "The Party" tells him to do?
Several years ago our state rep voted against what the State Republican party chairman wanted. He voted for what he felt was best for the people in his district. (those thousands who cast a ballot with his name on it).
He was ejected from the Republican Party. He is now the only Independent in the state house.

So, who from behind the scenes is pushing this? Special interest groups, or individuals such as Romney and Ryan themselves? What hypocrisy. Yes, sure, Romney and Ryan are every bit the "clean, family values candidates," and they'll take a public anti-porn stance to show it. I'm sure that neither of them has ever watched porn, masturbated, or fucked another person.

Haven't we learned from history that the louder a politician protests against so-called sexual deviance in society, the more likely he is to end up being caught in an airport bathroom with his hand down some other guy's pants?

Just saying, Mormons are pretty much never as clean and pure as they claim to be, and that Paul Ryan sure does work out an awful lot for a straight guy.....

Wait! Don't put me on the opposite side of this issue from you. I agree with you. I believe that our "representatives" stopped representing us, a long time ago.

There's a bunch of reasons for this, of course but, you see examples of it, right here. I'll give one:

About a week ago, you posted a thread about a law maker that had failed (in our opinion) to hold the public trust. The lefties came out, defending him and the righties, came out frying him. My point is that people will "spin" when "their guy" does something wrong and go ahead and vote for him, again. Can I say "Marion Barry"? (or however the former mayor of DC spells his name)

There's another reason. There's a large portion of people who don't vote because they are frustrated at their inability to vote out "leaders" with whom they don't agree.

Worse, there's a portion of people that do that based upon name recognition.

There's also a pretty large number of people who vote by party affiliation; no matter what some scumbag has done, he's their scumbag and that's where the vote goes.

We stopped holding elected officials responsible for their actions a long time ago.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

So, here, you paint an entire group of people with a broad brush and you imply that the other is gay.

That quote already shows that you hold mormans in little regard. That's fine.

Is there something wrong with a gay person running for office?

Peace and comfort,

Going back to work, but in a nutshell, the point I am trying to make (or, at least, a point I am trying to make) is that when folks start doing the Church Lady dance and declaring themselves holier than thou, they have it coming.

Well, I would never say that another person is throwing baseless accusations around ... I'm "just saying"

I understand your clarification. I also understand that you've already made up your mind that the republicans are running a perverted deviant and a gay man. I'm kind of surprised that you make the distinction. Based upon the first accusation, I thought you'd lump the second one in there.

I'm glad you've got a firm grip on the real issues that should decide a presidential election.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Well there are reasons to hold religions in little regard.   Nonetheless, the anti-porn platform is typical of the rights desire to crush free speech.
