I know that Obama didn't mean what he said when he said "that".

I know that what he meant was...."the government built all that stuff, you paid for it and so, you (indeed) benefited from that" and he's right....except for one thing:

We (you) paid for that. All of our taxes went towards "that". Every bridge and road was paid for by you....and me.

I know the GOP has raked that phrase over and over again but....

The fact is....you did build that.

You paid for that....in every dime of taxes you paid for and....that was without question....YOUR efforts, even as you may have never lifted a shovel.

Yes, it was the government that caused it to happen and frankly...had you not paid taxes....there'd have been a LOT fewer roads and bridges built but.....

YOU (did) buil(d) that.

You did.

You... the collective you... anyone who pays taxes... not the business owner alone.

Everyone.

Even those that don't pay (federal) taxes.

Everyone.

(We all contribute).

Yep... which is the point he was making.

“If you’ve been successful you didn’t get there on your own.” He reasons, “I’m always struck by people who think ‘well, it must be because I was just so smart’. There are a lot of smart people out there! ‘It must be because I worked harder than everybody else.’ Let me tell you something—there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there!”

“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet. The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.”

Are you finally getting what he was truly saying?

Yes...of course but....we.....paid for that.

We....built that.

You built that.

Obama certainly is a Marxist-collectivist. There are many other hints beside "you did not build that" as well. Rich vs. poor class war is a constant theme in his public appearances. It is not the basic problem Obama has though. I would give him some credit if he acted according to his belief system and showed at least a tiny bit leadership. He is a corporate whore, and this is bad, bad. 93% of Obama "recovery" all income growth has been picked up by the top 1%, and it tells all the story. Whatever he said or said not is largely irrelevant.

You, the community, built that... not you, Mr Jones who owns the donut shop.

Damn! I was really hoping this was a discussion Perhaps on those things that we have built through the journey of our kink lives. Maybe, at one time or another, we can talk about what is really closer to home.

All of the best, JJ.

Did you receive a public education as a child?
If so you got it for free, your parents paid taxes
but you as a child didn't.
Did you receive a private education?
Then your parents, a sponsor or a
scholarship paid for it.
Unless you were Tarzan and taught yourself
to read and write you were did not
educate yourself on your own.

If you grew up in a stable society where
you had a supply of food to eat, clean
water to drink and medicine and vaccinations
you were given options in life millions have
never had. You must crawl before you
can walk and some never even have
the chance to crawl.

The society you grew up in gave you
things before you could ever give back.
The success you have as an adult was
not all built in adulthood. It's foundation
began in childhood.
Throughout our lives most of us have
received gifts and lessons that did not
come with a price tag, things that were
not paid for by taxes.
No man is a island. Even the Lone Ranger
had Tonto. Individuals no matter how
brilliant and hard working benefit from
the communities they live in and the
societies they spring from.

Yes, the community built that through tax dollars. And, all that is available for everyone to use. Just because Mr. Jones decided to take a risk with his Donut Shop and Mr. Smith didn't, doesn't mean Mr. Jones owes Mr. Smith anything.

There are shitloads of roads, bridges, etc. out there. Anyone who wants to take the risk of starting a business, building that business, and making all the sacrifices most businesspeople take, so be it. they get to reap the same benefits, if their idea and business model is good. Colonel Sanders doesn't owe me a damn thing since he had the drive, determination and made the sacrifices and I have not.

Yes there is a shit load of all those things out there.

Its really a shame that intelligent men cannot grasp the concept he was getting at.

Maybe you should read Winter's post again.

Jon Stewart: RNC theme shows 'a party-wide persecution complex'

On his show Wednesday night, The Daily Show host Jon Stewart took the Republican National Convention to task for basing their entire theme on an out-of-context quote — “We built it.”

“When was the last time we heard a catchphrase that was such a peculiar mix of braggadocio and whiny petulance?” Stewart wondered, playing a clip of actor Charlie Sheen infamously saying “wow, winning.”

“We built that is the Republican retort to President Obama’s collectivism,” he continued, “and it is one of the first political mantras I’ve heard in a long time that sounds like your supposed to say the word ‘duh’ beforehand.”

The theme is meant to mock President Barack Obama for supposedly believing that businesses were not created by entrepreneurs, but by the government. However, the full context of the quote makes it clear that is not what the President was saying. Obama said that an individual’s personal drive allowed him or her to succeed, but that no one could succeed purely on their own.

Stewart jokingly said it was “obvious” that Republicans were going to be nuanced about the theme and not “overplay their hand.” He then played of clip of the RNC song, “We built it.”

Stewart described the theme as “a convention theme at a political campaign cynically based around something the president never actually said” and “a party-wide persecution complex, where any reference to the collective good is somehow taken as a denigration of an individual’s achievement.”

He concluded that the theme represented “an alternative reality where Barack Obama is a socialist Muslim, global warming is from polar bear farts, Fox News is fair and balanced, and the greatest threat to our way of life in a time of unprecedented economic inequality and institutional advantage for the wealthy is two dudes who want to get married.”

But Mr. Jones does owe the rest of society a reasonable proportion of his income to maintain what the society provides to him so his business may prosper which is the point the President was making.

Oh, we get it alright. It's the Marxist / socialist concept. Believe me. We do get it.

What the left can't stand is that there are those of us who will NOT sign on to it. It's like we cannot see what the left sees. We cannot see that glorious future that socialism and government can provide.

But we do see just fine.[:)]

That's hysterical as one man's reasonable is another man's tyranny. [8D]

Business is really prospering under Obama, isn't it! /s

no you do not benefit from it if you paid for it any more than you benefit from them charging you taxes for cigarettes.

Now if they paid for it out of their own pockets and you had usufructory privileges thats another story.

trustees in the gubafia that you are the grantor/settlor are not a benefit in that sense, but you are in the sense that you pay them a fee for their trustee duties to manage it for you.

For the building of it no.

Are you saying business should not pay taxes to support the creation and maintenance of the infrastructure and services they rely upon?
