I think people are hoping that by the time they meet you that you will be sooo in love with them that you will look past the other things. Which is by and large Hollywood fantasy bullshit.

I think this is the case quite a bit of the time. They figure that we'll be dazzled by their personalities and hooked by the time we meet them. One guy had some numbers as part of his screen name that he said were his age. His pictures looked like he was 10 or 15 years older than that, but I shrugged that off. Then I realized he'd been on CM for a couple of years ... yet his screen name reflected his current age? Later we were instant messaging and out of the blue I asked him what year he was born. There was a long pause before he answered. When I called him on the discrepancies he tried to wiggle out of it. It didn't work.

Another kind of deception I've encountered is with guys who say I'm what they want, only to "change their minds" when a "better deal" comes along. One man several years younger than me implied that he didn't mind the age difference and was fine with me being poly. Then later (after he'd hooked up with someone else) said, "I'm not really poly and oh by the way, I was also hoping to start a family ... " LOL! He knew how old I was when he first contacted me; he knew I wasn't going to be "starting a family" with anyone. Why waste my time???

Yup, there are many time wasters here.

Lately, my kiss-off message has been reading something like, "We're done here. Stay in school."

Ain't that the honest truth.

Ever wonder how many time wasters are busy wasting time with other time wasters, in a giant, pointless, frenzy of stupidity?

You know, I've been thinking of this thread some today. There is a member here that I share silly/awful/ridiculous profiles with from time to time, and I came across a profile that had the momentous amount of 63 'expert' designations. I think that sets some sort of record. Yes, he was an expert on whips, needle play, suspension, shibari, fire play - all those things that are a cinch to pick up. Along with 58 other things of course. Oh....and he'd supposedly been into BDSM for 15 years, which would make him well under age when he started.

That just turns me off quicker than a faucet. Any lying, be it age, or experience, or weight, it just pushes me away from even getting to know the guy. Or if I've already started that process, it halts it immediately and I am no longer interested. Same question that's been asked on here already, but how is it that these people think no one will ever find out that they hardly know how to tie a knot when they're supposed to be able to suspend someone? Or who wouldn't find it suspicious when they don't own a whip but are allegedly well versed in using one?

So he writes me after I viewed his profile to say hi. I asked him how he got to be so knowledgeable, in so many areas, and he said that when he was ** years old (underage), a Mistress took him in and used him as a slave, and he started learning then. But then the Mistress directed and supervised him doing sexual things with her daughters instead in order to make him a Dominant instead. And when I asked for the places where he learned his craft in the state that he was from, he said they were all underground.

REALLY????? How stupid do these lying idiots think we are?

I just checked my profile, figuring it had been years since I updated. My profile has a place for my birthdate, a checkbox next to it if I want to hide my age - which I don't - and no place I can see for me to hand enter my age. So I expect collarme is updating it for me. Although i mention the subject a couple more times in my text profile.

The only place for a birthdate is the profile on THIS side, not the profile on the other side. The birthdate on this side is to update the "birthday calendar", which can be found at the top of the page, by clicking on "calendars".

It has no effect on your profile on the other side.

I too have been away from the site for a while and forgot to update my age as well. It wasn't intentional deception, I just didn't notice it. As soon as I did, I updated it. I am sure a lot of people purposely leave or put untruths on their profile, but not everyone.

Lobs in a random thought. I dont display my pic.

If someone asks for it, I have a black & white pic I mucked about with in an art package. It's probably three years old now. I use it because I like it - it's an eye and face closeup. There's also a bog standard shot from a couple of years ago which is a decent pic.

At what point does age of pic = dishonesty?

That's a really good question.

I guess I'd say full face/body pics should be within a year or two. If it's an artsy thing like you mentioned then I'm not sure it matters so much as it's not standing in for a realistic standard of what you look like with the naked eye. Plus if the person is trying to be dishonest by putting up a much younger picture and also falsifying their age, that would be a no go. I think it's kind of down to the intent as well as the date of the picture but in general I'd say within a year, maybe two tops.

How about anyone else? What constitutes honesty or dishonesty when it relates to the age of a picture?

My photo is probably about 5 or 6 years, maybe longer. I never bother to update because I'm not searching for any one and I like how the photo turned out after Photoshopping.

When it stops looking like you. I dont mean haircut wise, I mean age/weight wise. It's why I pulled my pics from a really great shoot.

If you have something artsy, great, run with it.

When you take a current photo of yourself, put it next to the old photo, and they no looky alike.

That collarme doesn't auto update age is something I keyed in on just a couple of months ago. I have My bulk settings to exclude men under 30 and over 50 and quickly realized that most never update their profile. I take a gander at their join date and automatically add the number of years since they joined to their stated age.

While I'm sure that there are many who are intentionally deceptive regarding their age, I'm equally sure that on here many just don't realize that the age doesn't auto update each year.

My experience with a liar:
My ex (he's on here, Bcom & fet as well) lists on here as 51, Bcom 51 & Fet 92. He's 61. He told me point blank that he was 47 (at the time we got together.) He sent me pics playing a piano looking twig thin, & one closer pic wearing a turtleneck. The pics were obviously from the 80s as that's when the style was en vogue. His Bcom profile listed a 5'8 150lb 47 yr old. He posted on many a thread about his late wife. He told me she died 7 yrs previously. We met, he was maybe 5'6 & closer to 185lbs. His insistence he didn't dye his hair was pretty odd, his beard had gray & other areas were shaved. He also stated plainly he wasn't married, engaged, living with separated from or seeing anyone at all. He claimed to be completely single.

Eventually I did pry it out of him that he was 10 years older than his profiles stated (Bcom updates auto/he updated CM each year, still 10 yrs less). He "thought" I preferred younger guys. Huh? After the split, I dug around online & found pics of him & his wife outside his son's university graduation, & more of her on FB.

So, old pics sent, age off ten years & still married. Yeah, I had this all rolled into one. (Live & learn the hard way.)

Meh. I'm not actually turning 40 until Saturday, but when I put it up I said, ahh, close enough.

I also don't have a picture of myself on the site.

Hmm. And, it states I'm married and estranged in my profile.

Good thing I'm not looking. o_O

(And don't care, really.)

I frequent some internet wrestling sites. The part that stuns me is that these guys will set up meetings with fake profiles! Have a stud with perfect abs say he wants to take you on and find out he's a 50+ divorcee - honestly, I'm turning 51 this November and my warranty is fine. If you want someone younger, fine - we're making new models all the time! But there is no way to get on the mats and pretend to be 30 something. Lying on profile - major buzzkill!

I think you should have pics that are least within the current year.... I wouldn't expect that someone who is 50 and has pics from when they're 48, would look exactly the same. I try to update mine whenever I feel like posing for my phone. :D
