I don't know that an "avatar" as it's being called helps much either. Now, I will freely admit to being a neophite here. But I get a sense these forums are pretty unwelcoming in general. I have a background in goverment studies from a good university and will be entering law school next year. So naturally, I was attracted to the "politics and religion" as well as some of the others. I get the impression that the new people here are treated as "infiltrators" rather than people.
I guess that's an internet in general thing.

Beware of P&R - the mods once told us 20 / 80 rule applies except even stronger.  20 / 80 rule states that (in this instance) 20 % of the posters make 80 % of the posts.  Stronger?  It's 20 posters - not 20 % that make 80 % of the posts.

Those 20 posters know each other very well and could probably write each others' post - actually they sometimes do. LOL!

P&R is NOT an open forum for exchange of ideas.  As a matter of fact, P&R was separated out of the rest of Off-topic discussion, JUST so those folks could be "Corralled."

So, your observation as to P&R being un-welcoming and you feeling an infiltrator is dead-on.

WELCOME to (the rest of) the forums!

Why THANKYOU Sir Lance!
Nice to know there is a Gentleman in the group. In honesty, there was another fellow who Private Messaged me that there were some issues. I wont repeat his name since I was told so in confidence.
Still at least two of the women in the crowd are both astute and quite funny. I truly appreciate your warm welcome.

I hope you gird your loins and come back to P&R - we could really use some new voices there. P&R has some very smart, interesting people from whom I have learned a lot, and some that I skim. I've also learned a lot from some posters with whom I inevitably disagree via conducting research in order to debate their points.

Winterapple -> RE: Profiles without avatar. (9/3/2012 6:59:55 PM)

I liked your posts in P&R and I hope you'll
continue to post there. It's not a huggy kind
of place but you shouldn't take that
personally. I understand the temptation
to bolt after your first posts there but
I hope you don't.

I don't see the point in an avatar that isn't me, and I can't put one up for other reasons.

Are you by that implying that Big Boo is not me? :P

For me I do not care if someone have an avatar on the side of their posts or not, when I check out a profile it is nice with a picture to see who I am talking with but it really do not matter to me. A profile with some sort of picture and a avatar and a tagline look to me to be more thought out and like more effort have been put into the profile but other than that I do not care. :P

I wish you all well

Dear OP ---> my avi is a sockpuppet, as is yours. That is all.

I think we can keep you in P&R:)I havent been around much these last few days, but so far, I have enjoyed your posts (for what its worth), and we can be pretty huggy.
The moderation is far harsher there than anywhere else on the forums now. For everyone.... which isnt always a bad thing.
SO hello and welcome from me:)

chrornayarechka -> RE: Profiles without avatar. (9/6/2012 3:09:25 PM)

I used to have a picture of myself... but after half of the creepy messages i got, I started freaking out imagining people staring at my picture and getting off on it. Also, I had people from this site stalk me in real life, and decided to not have my photo up any longer.

Sorry to offend anyone that doesn't like it. I am always willing to send a photo after at least a week of decent discussion. :)

I don't know about you but I have absolutely no interest for people without avatar. Can't you guys put a picture of you from the back, your body only or even a picture of your favorite sex toy? Anything is better than nothing at all.

Profiles without Avatars!!!!

I can understand why the stalking would be utterly awful but I don't mind people getting off to my pictures. It's pretty much what I expect and as long as they don't try to force me to join in their silly little fantasies they can go ahead.

Yep, I agree with this.

I have enjoyed your posts as well. I think I have become addicted to reading the Wizard of Oz-scale misconceptions some of the posters maintain. There's one poster who just reflexively calls you like he's found the great flaw in your intellegence, But uses links he obviously didn't read or understand many of the times.
