Hi-ya popeye!

I thought you had "pulled a Firm", and pretty much weren't around much.

Good to see ya.

The DNC will be a hoot ... If I can stomach much of the speeches.

Seen any empty chairs, lately?

I have heard that the DNC changed the Obama acceptance speech venue from one with 74,000 seats, to one with 20,000 seats. I guess Obama doesn't want to show all those empty chairs ... that would make a hell of a ad ...

Firm

They could have shipped in 50,000 SEIU workers ... oh, no they couldnt.

I feel bad for President Obama. This is the last job he'll ever have; it's a forced retirement (the Good Lord, willing and the Cree don't rise).

He just turned 53? He's got 12 more years before he's elligible for socialist security. Thanks in part to his inactivity to save it (another promise he's yet to fulfill), most projections say it should be going bankrupt, right around the time he's taking that first walk out to the mailbox LOL.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Oh, Firm? Here's your chair! It's a photo of the meeting room from one of theose companies where Obama created some new jo ... never mind.

Yeah, looks more like some government office after he reduced the size of government.

Only for you, Firm!

Two favorites from the Woodrow Wilson House in DC, where I work as a part-time guide:

This brown chair in the library was where the ex-President, largely an invalid due to a massive stroke in 1919, spent the bulk of his waking hours. Due to his poor health, he was allowed one visitor a day, and he generally received his guests while sitting here. He often took his meals here as well, being of a generation that believed one didn't sit at the dinner table unless properly dressed in black tie (no mean feat to don when half your body is paralyzed). Because the stroke and hypertension had taken a huge toll on Wilson's vision, reading was difficult. So Mrs. Wilson usually read to him as he ate.

President James Monroe purchased this chair for the White House as part of his rebuilding and refurbishing after the British torched the place in 1814. It sat in what is now the Blue Room. Some time later, it was auctioned off. (Tastes had changed, and historic preservation wasn't on anyone's radar back then.) It was bought by a local jeweler named Galt, whose shop was the Washington equivalent of Tiffany. On his death in the 1930s, he bequeathed the chair to his former daughter-in-law, Edith Bolling Galt Wilson. (She married the President some years after he first husband, Norman Galt, had died.) Rumor has it that Jackie Kennedy tried to persuade Mrs. Wilson to give the chair back to the White House but struck out.

This one really isn't empty. Barry's just outside, practicing his backswing while the deficit reaches 16 TRILLION dollars.

What the hell. Nero played the fiddle. Barry plays golf. Everyone needs some down time.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

The Republican plan . . . an empty chair.

At least it's simple. Not a solution...but simple.

Perhaps the most poignant empty chair I've come across:

"Here Sat My Father" by Palestinian artist Ismail Shammout

(And yes, I do realize that the Israelis have suffered terrible losses too.)

Some historical perspective on a tired meme:

Obama and golf: Par for the course for presidents

According to Martin Davis, editor of The American Golfer, "Clearly, there has been a long association with the ancient game and the American presidency. In fact, Obama is the 15th of the last 18 presidents to play golf. Not only is he a hugely avid golfer, but a pretty fair one, too. As far as how much time he spends on the links, his annual rate of play is about the same as President Dwight D. Eisenhower, with President Bill Clinton right on their heels."

ETA: I forgot another interesting point Davis made: "Lyndon Johnson played the game, warning his playing partners that it wasn't proper to beat the president. Most significantly, he used his outings on the links to secure votes for the Civil Rights Act of 1964." Depending on President Obama's golfing partners, he may indeed be working.

This looks like Obama's jobs council... I see they figured out that if Obama was gonna be a no show, they may as well too.

Firm, the camera was panning over the crowd and I saw plenty of empty seats! Or, maybe they went out to the concessions for some adult beverages. One guy was wobbling around in his seat as though he got a "bad ice cube." If he was behind the wheel he'd get popped for "agravated."
Boy, ever wonder what ever happened to all those kids who never got picked for "the team?" DNC.
And that FUCKING IDIOT Massachusetts governor Deval (Devalue) Patrick was spouting about getting more kids college educations! My nephew who graduated UNH last year is working at a horse riding academy in New Hampshire "doing the books" and after that's done he goes and mucks out the stables.
My neice who graduated U. Maine in May now works (two) waitressing jobs and will be down to one after a few weeks when the tourists leave. And their friends are all in the same boat!!!
Don't get me going on Deval Patrick, he's a STUPID, STUPID, STUPID man with some sort of law "degree."
There's the crowd again, ....hey look, the Stepford wives!

I too noticed a fair number of empty chairs, but I can't in good conscience tie that back into any kind of political issue. Yet, anyway.

I listened and watched Deval, the MD governor, Lilly Ledbetter(?) and most of the San Antonio's mayor's remarks. Truthfully, they were all pretty good and effective, even if the "Forward, Not Back" stuff was staged.

Most of the speeches were uplifting, although the normal political spin was particularly noticeable in Deval's remarks (no doubt, as a follow on governor to Mitt in MA, you couldn't expect much otherwise. That's why he was there, after all).

Lot's of red meat for the party faithful.

Did you notice an occasional "out of sync" issue with the audio, and the video? It seemed to me when they took the video feed off the same pipe that was feeding the "jumbo-tron", the audio proceeded the video. Pretty damn distracting.

Firm
