Epiphiny and Duskypearls nailed all the pertinent points; if you read nothing else in this thread, they would suffice.

I would offer one more thing, though, just as food for thought....I am reminded of Heinlein's comment on the topic (in the guise of Lazarus Long): "If you don't feel comfortable going out unless you're armed...don't leave home."


Learn to shoot. Worry about CCW later. I love guns, love shooting, hate carrying.


Of course...Heinlein also said: "Always keep your clothes and your weapons where you can find them in the dark."

No kidding?! Krikey, I'd feel absolutely naked w/o my .357. Her name is "Mabel," and she is every bit a part of me. It was hard enough leaving her home 24 hrs. to get my ankle fused! But you're right...learn to shoot and shoot well. Gun's ain't much good as window dressing.
