farglebargle -> Mitt Romney CREATED a tax on blind people. (9/8/2012 12:36:52 AM)

While Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney CREATED a tax on blind people to get a state certificate proving they're blind

10 bucks a head.

Oh, he called them "FEES", but we all know that it's just another tax, don't we?

Politesub53 -> RE: Mitt Romney CREATED a tax on blind people. (9/8/2012 5:44:30 AM)

Ah yes, the good old "fees" ruse. We are starting to see that more and more in the UK.

mnottertail -> RE: Mitt Romney CREATED a tax on blind people. (9/8/2012 6:11:56 AM)

The blind taxing the blind.  Well, the good news; at least it wasn't a corporation.

Yeah, old St. Wrinklemeat was the introducer of  'revenue enhancements' in the US.

Living in Mass and calling it good, what more proof do you need?

mnottertail -> RE: Mitt Romney CREATED a tax on blind people. (9/8/2012 6:35:54 AM)

I would think that he coulda checked drivers licenses, or school records, or any number of things....

maybemaybenot -> RE: Mitt Romney CREATED a tax on blind people. (9/8/2012 7:37:53 AM)

And it was overwhelmingly passed by the 80% Democratic, Massachusetts Congress. He also proposed the same thing for Mentally Retarded folks, the congress voted it down. In Massachusetts a Rep. Governor couldn't pass "free ham and cheese sandwich day" without Dem. approval.

Therefore... the argument could be made he is a candidate that reaches out across the aisle and works well with Dems.
It could also be said that the Massachusett Dems cherry pick which disabled group they wish to finacially discriminate against.

Disclaimer: mbmbn is not a fan of Gov. Romney.

How awesome is that, Fargle complaining about a government required fee... I think he's finally begging to see the light. It won't be long before he denounces all of the government regulations and fees... When can we expect your thread about the evil's of Obama care? After all it's only the largest tax hike on the middle class in the history of the US, including Roosevelt's extreme tax rates of the 40's.

We're waiting with baited breath out here in Kinkyland.

Baited breath Rob......Worms or maggots ? [8D]

I am not Romney supporter, but aren't Obamabots getting desperate? A governor is not involved in such minor issues.

Please prove that the ACA is the"largest tax hike on the middle class in the history of the US"
You have made the claim, now prove it.
And "because Rush and Hannity say's so" isn't proof....not even close.
Now I will wait....and wait...and wait, but I'm going to keep asking.Prove it or shut up,one or the other!

Actually a Governor must sign into law such"minor issues" in order for them to become state law.

In Massachusetts, most licensing is at the pleasure of the "Secretary" or "Director" of the state dept from which that license issues. Many fall under the Secretary of State, who takes his/her directives directly from the Governor. Romney did in fact try to cure a deficit of $3 billion by directing all departments to adopt a pay as you go revenue scheme. Then he drastically cut funding to higher education. Then a rather large cut to aid to cities & towns (THAT is the mechanism by which the state income tax filters back down to municipalities). This caused a continual hiking of local property taxes and almost vicious enforcement of the excise tax program. Basically, everything is about 18-20% post Romney.
In fairness, the legislate also has power to raise fees, but they tend to look more at tolls and mass transit for their gravy.

Is FactCheck good enough for you?

quote:

Q: Is the new health care law “the biggest tax increase in history”?

A: In raw dollars, perhaps. But several tax increases just since 1968 were larger as percentages of the economy, or in inflation-adjusted dollars.

There’s no question that the package of taxes and other revenue-raisers that the law contains constitute a large increase. The most recent estimate from the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation puts the total for more than a dozen different tax increases and other “revenue-related provisions” at $675 billion between now and 2022.

And that’s not counting the effect of penalty payments by individuals who refuse to take out health insurance (estimated by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office to be $54 billion over the same period. The JCT tax estimate also doesn’t count penalties paid by large employers (those with 50 employees or more). CBO estimates they will pay $113 billion during the period, rather than provide insurance coverage for their workers.

Yes,that would be good enough for me,if they had in fact said what you had asserted in your post, but since they didn't (perhaps if you read it s-lo-w-l-y you will se where you went off the rails)no.

No, in RAW dollars it's the largest tax increase ever... So if you're going to argue that because EVERYONE but the poor have to pay, it's not a tax on the middle class, it's a tax on everyone... Well the middle class make up the majority of everyone... Remember the whole 99% thing OWS whined about?

I can't help you aren't satisfied by the truth, but it wouldn't matter which source I used, you would nit pick just to try and win the point...

I would think that HIS SIGNATURE enacting the legislation ( or veto) is 'involved', wouldn't you?

I notice that Fact Check is using weasel words. Not cool. "perhaps"? Either it is or it isn't. Which, of course, shows the issues which EVERYONE knows about FactCheck.

Glad to know your non inflation adjusted dollars have more spending power then Rob. [8|]

Yes, but we are talking a very small revenue per year here, and this is a fee rather than a tax.  It is just a "robo-signing", nothing of the utmost importance. My point was we can not blow tiny things out of proportion, let us look at major issues. This thing does not prove fiscal responsibility or vice versa.

KenDckey -> RE: Mitt Romney CREATED a tax on blind people. (9/9/2012 5:20:54 AM)

I wonder if anyone understands that there are more than one funding source in government? There is the general fund which pay for 90% of the services provided by govt and revenue funding which pays for the rest (short assessments). Revenue funding covers the costs associated with services like sewer, water, solid waste, etc. Fees generally go into revenue funding programs. Some programs are funded by both General and Revenue funds. Example might be your Animal Control, planning and zoning, etc. Assessments usually cover schools, policing, streets, parks, etc when we desire a special increase to cover the expense of something special we want done and pays for the bonds to cover these.
