The sales pitch is the same, the gray hair they all get in that job makes it a lot harder to look youthful, and the devotees who were so excited to be part of it all in '08 have graduated, and gone on to advanced studies in every new Call of Duty map, while living back in their childhood bedrooms.

The youth vote, fickle thing that it is, won't be coming back in force for President Obama this time around. Does he have a hope of re-election without it?

I don't think they will. It wasn't bad weather that forced a move from a football stadium seating 74,000 to smaller digs indoors. Will minority voters once again turn out in huge numbers ? I'm not so sure.

I heard one of the pundits, the other day say that he's losing a ton of youth vote, he'll be losing about 10% off the 94% of the black vote that he got last time and that seniors ain't exactly singing his praises, anymore.

I think that of those three groups, only the seniors are going to be "swung". I think the other two groups are going to just cease to show up.

To my mind, that makes this a very tight race; tighter than a clam's ass, when the tide's out. I think this race may very well be the first one in history where almost every state result is "challenged" (a la Florida by algore in 2000).

To me, that is one of the worst things that can happen in any election but, in this one, the moans and wails from the PPLs will be excedingly loud should Governor Romney win.

To answer your question a bit more directly: I don't know that it ensure's that Barack will lose. I just think it will make things "too close for comfort" on either side. I think that no matter who wins, they'll have a hard time declaring an overwhelming mandate from the masses.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I think you could add Catholics and other Christians to the list.

I think if you add the real hard-line Christians, you might be right but, I don't know if it makes that big a difference. The hard-liners weren't in his camp, the last time (If I remember correctly).

I do think that Barack's failure will actually generate some votes that didn't vote last time to vote against him (I "voted my conscience" and wrote-in the candidate I felt would be best for the country. I won't be doing that, again). When I go to the polls this time, my vote for Governor Romney will be an anti-Obama vote. It's not like I think Mitt is the savior. I've just weighed my options.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

If you asked me 4 years ago if Obama had a chance for a second term, I would have said hell no. I voted for him, but I had no delusions about what to expect. He's not a miracle worker, he isn't able to fix over a decades worth of issues and a huge economic slide in one term. And I knew that issue is exactly what any opponent would use to nail him. I felt that way about any candidate that made it into office in fact. I was pretty much sure it would be a 1 term deal for anyone.

The reason is that it didn't matter that NO candidate short of a mythological super being would have been able to do much, if any, better. He's in the hot seat any any and all comers can criticize him for things they can claim they would have done better.

Of course, then things got politically idiotic.
The Republicans proceeded to shoot themselves in both feet, and possibly the head over the last few years. They went from a party with a huge political issue to use in their favor as ammunition... to Mitt Romney... a completely lackluster candidate with far too little thunder, and a great deal of deriding factors.

So yes, Obama has a HUGE chance of winning, in fact I'd say it's not his game to win, it's his game to lose. The Republicans have just fumbled the ball so many times this round to give themselves a clean chance.

I think the numbers are likely to be down a bit among minorities, Servant, but the biggest malaise is going to be among the 18-25's, IMHO. They just aren't feeling it. There isn't a bandwagon. President Obama isn't a rock star anymore.

The wife and I went down and walked the Venice Beach strip on Labor Day. One artist with some Obama stuff, instead of the dozens we saw at the hippie street fairs, back in '08. Not a t-shirt with his face on it for sale, or any being worn.

I was in Green Bay last week when Biden was up there. The Milwaukee paper said 1000 were there. Closer to 100 and I'm not kidding.

LOL. Thanks, JanahX, but I'm holding off a bit yet on the "Democrat jump the demonization shark," thread.

Mind if I reference your post, when the time comes?

I keep forgetting that if you don't blindly follow someone who promised he could do something and failed to do it you're either a racist, anti-women, you want to push grandma off a cliff, or you aren't in your right mind.

Yeah, I'm changing my vote back to Barack because I want to be "normal and misled" instead of an independent thinker.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

To my mind, that makes this a very tight race;

I think you are exactly right, Michael. I would much rather see a clean "got to let him go," as Clint has phrased it, but if the advantages the President has in the race are enough to get him across the line, denying him any sort of mandate, and preserving a divided Congress will have to do.

Women will not be thrown back to the stone ages. There are laws to protect your right to have an abortion and any thing else you might be worried about.

Honestly, Rich, I think if Romney wins, you'll find that his "coat tails" are actually pretty long. I think you'll find states that are normally pretty staunchly democratic strongholds will miraculously be voting republican, this time.

I already predicted New Jersey, which has gone democratic in every race since '88, I believe (I posted the graphic, in this section, some time back), will wind up being for Romney, this time. Which, I say again: I think is more of an anti-Barack vote.

I think we will see a few states where the people are saying: "Enough! Forget building your fucking Utopia. Where's them jobs you were talkin' about?". Yes, I think the blue-collar (I almost called them "workers" but they're not) people will be out in greater numbers than they normally are. I think Joe Sixpack's normal thought is: "It doesn't matter who I vote for. I'll get fucked, either way". I think that has now changed to: "Okay, I know I'm gonna get fucked but I'm tired of this clown fucking me, dry. Can I have some lube, please, Mr. Romney?".

Peace and comfort,

Michael

If the Republicans could have used 6+ years of searching to find someone who wasnt:

A: A crazy old man

B: A brainless Bible beater

C: A notorious flip flopper

This fucking election would be IN.......THE....BAG
