I've run across a few pundits making the "Romney in a landslide," prediction, Michael. I saw one today claiming that the Carter/Reagan race of '80 was roughly where we are today, at this point.

I don't know. Carter didn't have an elephant in the room, to play with in October.

It's only "spending" if a republican does it. It's "a stimulus package" when a demie does it.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Women will not be thrown back to the stone ages. There are laws to protect your right to have an abortion and any thing else you might be worried about.

What statute would that be precisely and what protects it from SCOTUS?

I have made that comparison, too and I think the "feeling" is close to that but, I think that the election results won't be the same.

I talk to employees every day in many different industries - some of them that have voted democratic all their lives - that are gnashing their teeth and realizing that they may have to "bite the bullet" and vote for the guy that might be able to help the economy instead of the one that's proven that he can't.

I personally know people that have told me: "This time, you might be right".

Carter had a lot of "baggage" that he brought into that election and one of the things was that he throttled Ford on the economy and did nothing to improve it. Look up the term "misery index". It was a term that Carter invented in '76 that Reagan successfully used against him in '80.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

If the court wanted to reverse roe vs. wade, they would have done so already.

Here in MD, Obama still has the vote of the minorities and young adults. To be honest, I know very few who will vote for Romney except for those who are extreme republicans, racists and rednecks who ride around in their pickup trucks yelling "YEEHAH".

Those too but I've never seen those types in MD, only in Western PA where I grew up and I rarely ever go back to for those reasons.

This works (Although Barack's "Misery Index" is only at 10.75 to be fair)

Peace and comfort,

Michael

He won't have their vote, until they actually show up on a Tuesday in November, Littlewonder.

Sure. Laws the Democrats fought for and the Republicans opposed. Laws that Republicans continue to campaign against, even. I like my rights. That's one of the reasons I vote Democrat.

Last week, both Romney's campaign as well as Rove's super-PAC pulled all their money out of PA and two other swing states. Right now, there are 9 states truly in play where the election will be decided: Florida, Ohio, NC, Virginia, WI, Iowa, Colorado, Nevada and NH.

No Republican has ever won the presidency without Ohio and the road to 270 is certainly tight for Romney to get there. If Obama get either FL or Ohio he will probably win; if Obama wins both those states but loses the other in play states, Romney loses.

Since the conventions, Romney hasn't gotten a boost at all, according to Gallup daily tracking while Obama has enjoyed a 3+ boost in the polling.

Nate Silver, who called the '08 election for Obama during the primaries, has called it for Obama. As did Booman Tribune. And George Will wrote off Romney way back in March.

In short, Romney is losing. Romney knows it. Why don't his supporters on this board know it?

You like your rights but how do you feel about the rights of others?

I harken back to Clinton attempting an assault on the 1st amendment when he floated the notion of calling talk radio part of the "vast right wing conspiracy" and trying to call it "hate speech". How about that right?

How about gun control? Laws which almost invariably are proposed by democrats?

How about drug testing? Or breathalyzers being a direct violation of the 4th Amendment?

More importantly (and the one that democrats are constantly chipping away at): How about the tenth that was written to prevent the federalization of this country?

It's all well and good to say: "I like my rights" but part of the responsibility of having those rights is not violating the rights of others; something democratic law-makers do with scary regularity.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

Maryland isn't going to go for Romney. It's not a swing state, it's not really in play. IIRC, we've gone Republican twice since the 50s. Even if minority turnout is down a bit, and I haven't seen any evidence of that, I don't see that making a bit of difference.
