wiselydivine -> Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 9:58:45 AM)

I've been on and off this site for a few years. Mostly due to the fact that it seems to be FILLED with fake profiles and nonsense. That being said, logically I must assume that is so because there are real people on here. I have also by happenstance met people via other methods who turned out to be on here, and they are of course real. So can anyone illuminate to me what a good, fast way to sort the bullshit is and really actually meet people via this site?

I second this question. Being new here myself i am not looking to waste my time.
very well written question and thanks OP for asking

caskey71 -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 10:16:57 AM)

Me three. I am sick to death of fakes. I wonder if they just target newbies like me?

yourdarkdesire -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 11:01:16 AM)

Newbies are ALWAYS targeted, especialy female subs. Be prepared for a few weeks of mail, mail, and more mail. Ignore most of it, especially anything demanding you send pics or cam to prove your trueness. Stay away from the findommes.

As a general rule, the people here on the forum side of things, are real, true people. We are here to discuss various aspects of bdsm, and exchange ideas about everything from sports to politics. Lots of great info in the Ask A Mistress/Master/submissive threads. Health and safety. Politics and religion. We have a section for creative writing and photograohy/art. And best of all, IMO, we have a section that simply lets your have fun - Polls and Other Random Snippets. If you love funny pics, especially about cats, visit the Train Wreck thread.

Come join us, and Welcome!

DarkSteven -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 11:02:08 AM)

First off, welcome to the site.

The word 'fake' means different things to different people. For me, it means a profile set up by a scammer.

They're not hard to spot. A glamorous pic, crappy English, no distinction between kinky sex and lifestyle, and no real preferencds in what men she seeks.

And anyone contacting me out of the blue, saying she wants me to be her Master.

yourdarkdesire -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 11:05:29 AM)

(drops in from the green)

Steven, will you be my Master? pwweeeeezzzzzzzzzzz!

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 11:16:20 AM)

Big welcomes to the new people.

More red flags would be people who give you their IM or yahoo address right off, or try to lure you to another web site, or try to get your personal info or phone number.

Anyone who assumes or rushes you into a relationship or a dynamic by calling you master or sir or slave or bitch or slut or any of that crap, run from those people. BDSM relationships are just like all other relationships, you handle them the same way, the same rules apply.

Geeze, has anyone ever created a sticky? We should have a sticky !!

DomMeinCT -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 11:21:57 AM)

Welcome to CM.

Just like the rest of the internet and your own real-life mailbox out by the curb, junk mail happens.
Use your delete and block button, don't focus on the ones you deem fake, and enjoy the real people you do meet.

mnottertail -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 11:28:19 AM)

I'm so real, I probably think this song is about me....
I'm so real, I bet I think this song is about me.
Don't I?
Don't I?

Well you blew me several years ago;
when I was still quite naive;
and you rimmed me all the way to Nova Scotia;
I wouldn't give you reprieve..................

No, I am not Paul Simon, I am real.....

Finding someone takes time and effort.

We need a sticky that says, "If you're thinking about make a post complaining about fakes, don't. It's already been done thousands of times."

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 11:40:59 AM)

But, but, I'm feeling sticky today.

Maybe the weather?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 11:42:52 AM)

If you want to blame the weather... [8D]

Even if a person is "real" as in not a scammer, you just never know if they're going to be a person that you like.

ETOX123 -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 11:46:52 AM)

I run into a fair number of fakes. For example, as someone else said, the people who give you their Yahoo right off the bat. This, more often than not, is a bot. You will start talking to them, and at first (for about three lines) they will seem real, and then the answers will be more mechanical. I usually ask everyone if they are a bot immediately if they give me their yahoo. Naturally the bots are designed to answer that question with someone legitimate, so what you can do is ask some ridiculous mathematical question. I did that last night however...turned out the girl was real and she reported me...for what I don't know. She called me a dumbass, among other things. In my opinion I thought it was a good way to avoid wasting time, but she apparently isn't that smart.

In addition to that there are far too many people on here that post the whole 'single and looking' post, and the moment you talk to them they start giving you rate quotes for their services.

Exactly.. for me its men that lie.. married guys that say they are single, male whore sluts that just want easy sex but say they want a LTR, guys that say they want a real (not online) relationship but never want to meet.. men whose profiles are all Domly but its just their fantasy.. guys that say what they think the girl wants to hear..

.. so for now I just come here for the forums.. its entertaining.. [:)]

and.. [sm=welcome.gif]

This I kind of disagree with. A sub/slave calling someone "Sir" or "Ma'am" could simply be polite. I know that the Marine Corps is told to do that for everyone.

Or maybe really smart to avoid someone that expects her to prove herself to just have an electronic conversation.

nephandi -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 11:56:33 AM)

Greetings

One thing to do would be to look for people who have some information on their non kink interests as well on their profiles, now I am not saying that having only kink information makes someone a fake, but those who are only after wanking material will usually not bother with filling out information about their regular interests as well.

I wish you well

You want to know how many bots I run into? All I expect someone to prove is that they have a pulse.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Hello, question about the site (9/13/2012 11:59:45 AM)

Did I forget to take my meds and sign up for the Marine Corps again?

Jeholy Gawd I *hate* it when I do that.

Yeah, I think that's the branch of the military that's taught to call female officers "Sir" as well. It doesnt' work for me. I don't think that works for most people, but whatever floats your boat.

If you're high protocol, good on you. To me it tends to say "newbie without a clue."
