I am actually thinking that if we ever get married I want it to be just James and I and my parents and my MIL and that's it. We'll have a party and invite guests after it's all said and done.

I'm good enough to come to your party and bring a gift but not good enough to experience the sacred part of the ceremony? I would consider that a huge insult.

I wouldn't consider that insulting at all. If that's how the couple wants to hold their wedding, more power to them. It's their day. As long as it's an open bar at the party. :)

I'd go if promised a quiet bedroom to take Kaliko to after she's well into the open bar . . .

yeah...
recently a relative of mine got married again for her 4th or 5th time. This time she wanted a huge deal wedding. I think her dress was close to 2000, lots of beading and lace over a nice slightly shell colored white gown. Each bridesmaid's dress was 500 and that was on sale. She had parties prior, bridal shower, ect, even though she has been there a few times and already has "stuff". It was hardly her first round at the rodeo, ya know? But omg.. talk about bridezilla.
Thank goodness she got snipped after having her 6th child or I would be envisioning the resulting baby showers in the year ahead.
For a lot of people weddings seem to be not so much about the ceremony or committment, but the presentation to the masses.
yuck. Not my thing, but then I will never travel down that road again.

Why should it matter what other people do for their wedding? If you are not paying for it, it is none of your business.

Can't say it better'n that.

I wouldn't expect people to bring gifts, but yes people might be hurt they were not there for the i do's. to be fair though we don't know that many people, so there'd only be like 7 of us at the reception lol. And we could throw one hell of a party!

It was the best reception I have ever been to, and that includes my own. The downside? The bride got seasick! LOL!
