It does not get any better than this......

"Speaking Saturday at the Values Voters Summit, Rick Santorum said that “smart people” would never side with conservatives."

Just remember that when you support the GOP on this or any other side... This is what they think of YOU..or at least one of the people who was running to be the GOP candidate

here is the clip of him speaking

"We will never have the elite, smart people on our side. Because they believe they should have the power to tell you what to do."

In listening to what he said and how he said it, his nonverbal communication, I do believe he was mocking elitists.

But, I don't expect context to come between your postings and your ideology.

So intelligence is being equated with elitism.   That will drive alotta dipshits straight to the arms of the irrelevant republican party.   I imagine some cretin will be along from that non-elitist all inclusive dumbass sect to explain to me what I just said, and why it is wholly incorrect.

Fair enough. It certainly didn't come between you and yours.

Richard Hofstader, in his seminal work on Anti-Intellectualism in America, chronicled how conservatives have used fear of educated people to solicit votes for almost all of the history of our country. Anti-Intellectualism was used against Presidents John Quincy Adams and Martin Van Buren and against candidates like Adali Stevenson, just to name a few American historical examples. The argument that the more educated a person is, the more a person reads, the more independent a thinker he is, the more dangerous he is to society has often been an argument used by those who resist or try to stop change.

History repeats itself - that's the sad thing about history.

Why else do you folks think the Texas GOP is against the teaching of "Critical thinking Skills"?

I'm talking about Santorum, not you. You aren't even a broken clock.

More like a clock that has never been built.

Sounds like a book I need to add to my list! Thanks, FD.

So intelligence is being equated with elitism.

There are a number of issues where team uneducated has really strong opinions and demands that they get their way where they are completely unqualified and unable to even engage in a conversation on the subject. Having a conversation among equals is impossible unless both parties are equals.

Determining a schools science curriculum for example, if one doesn't understand science they are incapable of having a conversation on it. That's not me being elitist, that's them being incompetent.

Wow, I'm surprised to read some of the posts to this. There sure seems to be some not-so-thinly-veiled character attacks leveled against me.

@Erieangel: you make me laugh.

@mnottertail: you were wrong, and are wrong, and will be wrong again. Elitism isn't simply governing of the many by a few. As I pointed out before, elitism is also snobbery, arrogance and snidely looking down on others as inferior to you. You show that quite well, and that is the elitism Santorum was talking about.

@Politesub53: Elitism is about demeanor. Those with money aren't necessarily elitists. I have met plenty of elitists that aren't rich, by my own standards (look forward to seeing the incorrect interpretations of that statement by some on here).

@subspaceseven: Yes, he was right. It has been shown as true on here and will, most likely, be shown on here over and over again.

@slavemike4u: Yes, context matters. Yes, it mattered when Obama said what he said. And, when the President says that "you didn't build that" with regards to the roads or the infrastructure, he is forgetting that the people that did build the roads and infrastructure got paid, are getting paid, and will get paid for their work. With businesses paying taxes, owners paying taxes, they had a hand in paying the people that built the infrastructure. Simply be saying that without the infrastructure having been built, their businesses wouldn't be there demeans everything those owners have done to build their businesses on the foundations their taxes paid for. And, that is the context that have argued against the President's comments in. Call all the BS you want. It ain't going to get you anywhere with me.

Obama did not say their businesses would not be there. He said they had help getting there. The workers who built the roads also paid taxes on their wages, so labor contributes twice. Also, they purchased the goods and services offered by the businesses. That is three contributions they make to the success of business: labor, taxes, and purchases.

And how are the business owners demeaned? They do not pay taxes unless they have earned some profits. Their taxes come after the building of the infrastructure and subsidies the federal govenment supplies to industries. Demeaned? What do they want in addition to profits? Blue ribbons? Medals? What sort of entrepreneurial endevor is that? The poor dears had their feelings hurt?

And that business' customers built that owner's business.

It can quite easily be turned around.

What makes you think I want,or need,to get "anywhere with" you.
I still call bullshit because that Obama quote wasn't used in context by the right,it was constantly and deliberately parsed and held up as something it most certainly wasn't.

Bless you - he's not forgetting anything, on account of that being his entire fucking point.

It was the WHOLE point.... he was saying that it was taxes that built the infrastructure.

Talk about proving the point of the OP. Sheesh.

When someone criticizes biology by demanding to see a crocoduck or quoting genesis my not taking them seriously as an equal on the subject isn't arrogance. They are the ones being arrogant when they expect us to take them seriously despite their ignorance.
