ORIGINAL: slvemike4u Now that mainstream media has ,and is dissecting the tape, what sort of effect do you see it having on the polls ? President Obama's convention bump is fading and most polls have returned to their virtual dead heat status.....and now comes "The Tape"...what effect do you see it having on the polls, and more importantly on the election ? If people watch the entire vid as opposed to listening to inane comments here by those who have barely read the news reports, let alone seen more than snippets from the original....I hope the answer is: "None", or better...."Vote for Romney". Unlike most, I watched the entire tape and in it he said (essentially) "those 47% who get their money from the govt., I'd be hard pressed to get their votes...but there are some in the middle who actually want to improve their lot in life....those, I think we can get". How do you argue with that? If your check comes from GM....you're going to be rah rah about GM. If it comes from the government....it ain't fucking rocket science. (And that's essentially what he said). But the truth is not that 47% get there money from the government. Most of the 47% who don't pay federl income tax do pay payroll taxes which means they pay a higher percentage of their income in federal taxes than Romney. Any of those people, many of which vote Republican, who actually listen to Romney's disdain for their support may decide to vote for their best interest over their conservative social views. Depending upon how much of that group does move it could put much of the south into play. Texas, with its large hispanic population and failed vote suppression law, could shift sides now rather than in 2016 or 2020.
