Now that mainstream media has ,and is dissecting the tape, what sort of effect do you see it having on the polls ?

President Obama's convention bump is fading and most polls have returned to their virtual dead heat status.....and now comes "The Tape"...what effect do you see it having on the polls, and more importantly on the election ?

I dont see him recovering from this. First he insults everyone who gets benefit, then scares the Arab-American voters. I just cant see that playing his way in grabbing swing voters.

Have you seen the latest bit of pandering on this tape ? The one where he pretty much dismisses the two state solution, vis a vis the Palestinian community .
I'm thinking you have.....lol

vincentML -> RE: The Romney tape: what effect do you think it will have on the polls? (9/18/2012 5:37:52 PM)

Not much effect for very long.

The next big event should be the first debate on Oct 3rd. Unless some outside event has an impact.

By then this tape will have been forgotten.

DarkSteven -> RE: The Romney tape: what effect do you think it will have on the polls? (9/18/2012 5:39:58 PM)

Good question. I see it hurting him in two ways:

1. He claims that he's a master of fixing economies, and hasn't offered any actual steps. I expect that a rumor will start that his plan for fixing the economy will consist of slashing benefits and throwing people into the streets. The Internet abhors a vacuum, and rumors will fill it.

2. His clearest path to winning consists of filling the airwaves with attacks on Obama's management of the economy. The tape pushes the economy off the front page, and put Romney on the defensive.

Zip, nada, zero, none.

No one cares about this except the Obamabots who are trying to make an issue out of nothing.

UPDATE: The number of people who have taken the CNBC poll has doubled, bringing those who agree with Romney's comments to 76 percent.

As the faux outrage over Mitt Romney's "47%" comments continue to barrel through the airwaves of the old media, a CNBC poll shows 75 percent of voters believe Mitt Romney was right when he said Obama supporters will vote for him no matter what due to dependence on the government.

No, the poll isn't scientific, but it is an indication of the media running with a narrative opposite of what the country actually believes...again.

The problem is that he has all the Koolaid drinkers in the bag.

A web poll? You're really putting credence in a web poll?

If people watch the entire vid as opposed to listening to inane comments here by those who have barely read the news reports, let alone seen more than snippets from the original....I hope the answer is: "None", or better...."Vote for Romney".

Unlike most, I watched the entire tape and in it he said (essentially) "those 47% who get their money from the govt., I'd be hard pressed to get their votes...but there are some in the middle who actually want to improve their lot in life....those, I think we can get".

How do you argue with that?

If your check comes from GM....you're going to be rah rah about GM.

If it comes from the government....it ain't fucking rocket science.

(And that's essentially what he said).

I know, the world knows, Mitt said so... Isn't that what this thread is all about?

People who support Mr. "We aren't going to let fact-checkers dictate our campaign" don't care what he says.

People who don't already don't.

But the truth is not that 47% get there money from the government. Most of the 47% who don't pay federl income tax do pay payroll taxes which means they pay a higher percentage of their income in federal taxes than Romney. Any of those people, many of which vote Republican, who actually listen to Romney's disdain for their support may decide to vote for their best interest over their conservative social views.

Depending upon how much of that group does move it could put much of the south into play. Texas, with its large hispanic population and failed vote suppression law, could shift sides now rather than in 2016 or 2020.

I take a web poll as serious as I take a Gallup, or Rasmussen poll... Or an Obama supporter, or anyone who claims to be a "journalist" these days... IOW not at all.

This issue is a manufactured issue, just like Romney's Bain days, and his Taxes... Notice how the "journalists" seem to be avoiding reporting on the unrest all across the ME, and Obama's lack of leadership in favor of this bullshit video?

It's also amazing how no one seems to want to report the Obama administration's disconnect with the State Department, and particularly our Ambassador to the UN... They can't even get on the same page on how to spin the story.

I mean how pathetic is this? Mitt, Mitt, Mitt... CNN...

You see only what you want to see... Where did Romney say 47% of Americans? He said 47% of Obama Supporters... Big difference you are ignoring to try and demonize Romney... It ain't working.

Musicmystery -> RE: The Romney tape: what effect do you think it will have on the polls? (9/18/2012 7:01:23 PM)

No, he didn't. He took the 47% poll numbers of Obama supporters and characterized them as above.

Hence, insulting half of Americans, not just a quarter of them.

Why is this guy running for President? Did he lose a bet?

I suggest many start paying some attention to the LVs.

Isnt it strange that 8 out of 10 states with the lowest income.... the "47%".. are red states.

Reminds me that during the Civil War plantation owners in the South conned the unemployed whites to go to war for the "cause." [8|]

Yes he did, your analysis is flat wrong.

Um, he clearly and explicitly said that 47% of Americans don't pay federal income tax - which is a fact - and that those people are Obama's supporters.
