Not sure what fantasy land you live in. But in the real world it would have already gone to trial. The older Mr Martin would have been given the max and be in jail already.

Nah. The stats were brought up in the past that black individuals in Florida are given immunity for justified use of force in similar ratios as whites.

DomYngBlk -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/3/2012 3:07:25 PM)

LOL and you suppose local police gonna call that situation justified? Are you in the USA?

So if this was reverse and zimmerman was the 17 year old and Martin was an older black man? We'd have all these threads that the older black man was innocent?

God you are good.

And you would be defending the older black man.

Actually all these threads have condemned the older white man being guilty. Not many saying Zimmerman is innocent.

DomYngBlk -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/4/2012 5:06:22 AM)

The point Vincent is that there wouldn't be any threads at all. No one would have said a word as he went off to jail. Right?

I didn't say that did I? But from the post you gave I am assuming you'd be all for the younger zimmerman. My point proven exactly. Thanks

I understand your point, D. In too many cases in our history it is true. However, in this case you omit a couple of unusual influences. Most importantly and from which all else flows is Florida's Stand Your Ground Law. Imagine your older black man was being punched by a younger white man, feared for his life when his gun became visible, and fired. Then imagine the police chief declining to prosecute (yeah, I know, but try to imagine anyway) Imagine then the white kid's family going on television demanding justice and some commentator leading at least a candle light vigil for the dead kid. These additional factors all contribute to making for the intrigue of this story and the proliferation of these threads. Otherwise, I would have agreed with your premise.

Which isn't what happened here at all......but as a curiousity I can understand your point.

What happened here, is Police thought there wasn't the evidence to refute the self defense claim, even after some pretty heavy investigation, but the family of the decadent hired an attorney who hired a PR firm to invent a story to villify Zimmerman to spread outrage to force a murder case where none existed. Then a Republican prosecutor who was criticized by the black community for her unfair treatment of minorities in the legal system gets put on the case, and uses this opportunity to try and get on their good side in a crucial swing state in an election year.

If a black individual was the shooter, and the evidence so overwhelmingly supported self-defense like it does in this case, it would be equally wrong to try and prosecute him as it is now trying to prosecute George.

And now that said, most recent development is it looks like Zimmerman is suing NBC for editing the call to make him look racist.

DomYngBlk -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/4/2012 6:48:32 AM)

Oh yeah, sure thats what happened. A grown man was overpowered by a skinny 17 year old. And he shot him in "self defense". As I said. The fix is in. Zimmerman will walk off free......

Raiikun -> RE: Update on Trayvon Martin case (10/4/2012 7:20:31 AM)

Well that Zimmerman was on the ground pinned down by Martin, trying to get up but unable to right before the gunshot happened is undisputed.

And youngsters beating up (and killing) someone older is hardly a rare occurrence these days. Someone on twitter linked to a news story a couple weeks ago about a 13 year old who attacked and chased down a 22 year old who ended up dead.

The Police Chief, since fired, who had a conflict of interest with Zimmerman and Osterman, and appears to have been negligent in his duty? See, your assertion that "there wasn't evidence" was proven false by the JUDGE'S SIGNATURE ON THE PAPERWORK SAYING THAT AS AN ISSUE OF LAW, THERE IS EVIDENCE ENOUGH TO LET A JURY DECIDE THE ISSUES OF FACT.

So, keep repeating the same falsehoods. We all know they're false, why they're false, and we all have a good idea of your reasons for continuing to repeat them.

Disputed on a messageboard is hardly disputed in court.

Nope. It not having been to court doesn't change that there is still no evidence to dispute that George was on the ground pinned by Martin right before the gunshot.
