GOP Senators blocked a vote on the Veterans Job Corps bill proposed by Democratic Senator Patty Murray on the grounds that it violated a cap on spending agreed to by Congress last year, even though the bill's cost was fully offset by new revenues.

What a bunch of ingrates those veterans are! We, the American taxpayers, gave them three meals a day, housed them, gave them free medical and dental care, gave them free international travel to and from exotic foreign locales, gave them free weapons and ammo instead of deducting the cost from their over-inflated monthly paychecks, gave them artificial limbs to replace the real ones they lost in battle - and now they want more of our tax money to help them get civilian jobs? They should be happy we gave them the opportunity to serve their country - hell, they should have done it for free!

While we're at it, we should close down all those Veterans Administration hospitals and clinics - after all, they're just a drain on the Treasury and a waste of taxpayer's money. And those wasteful military pensions - after all, those military retirees are just moochers and not job producers.

Sarcasm added

What do you expect? You're referring to the Radicals, after all. Since it was brought up by a Democrat, then of course they're going to kill it.

Perhaps, while they're at it, they can be fooled into abolishing the House of Representatives as well?

Seems the only thing they will work together on is voting themselves a recess in order to get out of Washington so as to relieve them from the obligation of doing the countries business.
Now tell me again who are the moochers ?

America, FUCK YEAH!

The rest of the story is... There are already programs that train veterans, and this would be yet another duplicate program, funded by a bankrupt government.

Sorry leeches, the well is dry, the vault is empty, and the printing press is out of ink... Gonna have to move to Europe if you wanna keep feeding off of the tax payer.

Would you say the same if one of your brother officers took one in the spine to save you?

No, the vets are just fine Tazzygirl. We should be more focused on these lazy civil servants that engage all day in internet politics on our dollar.

Veterans should get all the money they need. Idiots like Subrob1967 should go to a front line combat area and should do what those heroic soldiers do on a daily basis to protect your way of life.

I agree with the part about giving the Vets everything they deserve. But I think if we're going to be in a war, I'd rather we win.

Sorry, but I'm not automatically for this. We need to start considering which expenses are absolutely necessary and which are nice to have. This one isn't absolutely necessary, so it should be back burnered until a comprehensive bill comes together which restrains discretionary funding.

Not the Vets, the people trying to score political points by using them. Again there are already programs to help the vets transition into civilian life, job training programs, housing assistance, medical assistance... Why do you think they need yet another program? Aren't you sick of the wasteful spending coming out of Washington? And the pork spending? And the politicians pandering to the special interest du jour?

Enough with the heart string, feel good legislation, and enough with the fucking game. I'm sick and tired of the politicians playing these fucking games, trying to make the other party look bad at the expense of the rest of us...

You should be too. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for promoting this garbage.

That's really breathtaking, isn't it? Republicans expect our soldiers to risk life and limb and mind fighting their wars, and then call those same men and women "leeches" when they need help recovering from the experience.

This kind of attitude is going to doom the GOP.

Im not promoting or devaluing anything.

But your facts are wrong. They have enough programs? Many are homeless, waiting for disability enrollment into VA disability

Allison Hickey, undersecretary for benefits at the VA, said in written testimony submitted in advance of a hearing before a House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee that the flow of VA claims has increased 48% over the past three years.

"Despite unprecedented (Veterans Benefits Administration) claims production — completing over 1 million claims each year for the last two years — VA's backlog has grown," Hickey stated in her written testimony to the House Subcommittee on National Security, Homeland Defense and Foreign Operations.

As of mid-June, the VA had 870,000 pending cases; and 66% had been pending more than 125 days, according to a special analysis of data cited by Hickey. At the same time last year, the VA was dealing with more than 836,000 claims, with 59% pending more than 125 days, according to data on the VA's website. The VA has set a goal of processing all claims in fewer than 125 days by 2015.

..............

Republicans increasingly point to the backlog as evidence that Obama has failed to fix the VA. "I am tired of hearing his rhetoric on the campaign trail when you look at the reality of these numbers," said Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, in an interview.

The backlog problem is a decade old, and Hickey noted in her testimony that the delays are due in part to a generation of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans with more complex claims, and a decision two years ago to expand compensation for Agent Orange-related illnesses. Claims also increase in a poor economy.

So, please, dont even start with they have systems in place. Those systems arent working. Just like health care, this system needs a major overhaul as well. The staus quo isnt working... and you should be aware of that.

Harry Reid has been the Senate Majority Leader since 2007, he could have fixed any of these problems at any time... But what does he do? He plays the fucking game and holds onto the bill until six weeks before a hotly contested election... To try and score points off the Republicans, who he fucking knows aren't going to let him have one this late in the game.

Neither chamber cares about the vets, there are a few Representatives who care, and a few Senators who care, but The White House doesn't care, Reid doesn't care, Boehner doesn't care, McConnell doesn't care... All they care about is playing the fucking game.

It's all a game to them, and not only is Reid playing the Republicans, he's playing FD too... He knew threads like this would pop up all over the internet, and he's sitting in his office gloating about how successful his strategy was.
