ORIGINAL: tazzygirl Im not promoting or devaluing anything. But your facts are wrong. They have enough programs? Many are homeless, waiting for disability enrollment into VA disability Allison Hickey, undersecretary for benefits at the VA, said in written testimony submitted in advance of a hearing before a House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee that the flow of VA claims has increased 48% over the past three years. "Despite unprecedented (Veterans Benefits Administration) claims production — completing over 1 million claims each year for the last two years — VA's backlog has grown," Hickey stated in her written testimony to the House Subcommittee on National Security, Homeland Defense and Foreign Operations. As of mid-June, the VA had 870,000 pending cases; and 66% had been pending more than 125 days, according to a special analysis of data cited by Hickey. At the same time last year, the VA was dealing with more than 836,000 claims, with 59% pending more than 125 days, according to data on the VA's website. The VA has set a goal of processing all claims in fewer than 125 days by 2015. .............. Republicans increasingly point to the backlog as evidence that Obama has failed to fix the VA. "I am tired of hearing his rhetoric on the campaign trail when you look at the reality of these numbers," said Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, in an interview. The backlog problem is a decade old, and Hickey noted in her testimony that the delays are due in part to a generation of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans with more complex claims, and a decision two years ago to expand compensation for Agent Orange-related illnesses. Claims also increase in a poor economy. http://www.usatoday.com/news/military/story/2012-07-17/veterans-disability-claims-backlog/56282042/1 So, please, dont even start with they have systems in place. Those systems arent working. Just like health care, this system needs a major overhaul as well. The staus quo isnt working... and you should be aware of that. Harry Reid has been the Senate Majority Leader since 2007, he could have fixed any of these problems at any time... But what does he do? He plays the fucking game and holds onto the bill until six weeks before a hotly contested election... To try and score points off the Republicans, who he fucking knows aren't going to let him have one this late in the game. Neither chamber cares about the vets, there are a few Representatives who care, and a few Senators who care, but The White House doesn't care, Reid doesn't care, Boehner doesn't care, McConnell doesn't care... All they care about is playing the fucking game. It's all a game to them, and not only is Reid playing the Republicans, he's playing FD too... He knew threads like this would pop up all over the internet, and he's sitting in his office gloating about how successful his strategy was.
