Too many 'e's if you ask me.

SternSkipper -> RE: I am sorry if I caused a flap calling a user on the War Paint issue... (9/26/2012 1:41:46 PM)

Note To Self - Odd all the folks who made claims of native american heritage aren't here saying THIS event is perfectly acceptable.
Perhaps it's cause it isn't.

FMRFGOPGAL -> RE: I am sorry if I caused a flap calling a user on the War Paint issue... (9/26/2012 3:29:17 PM)

I am glad someone besides myself said that. Dis you see the Boston Globe's story regarding the Cherokee Nation's calling Brown out for racist behavior? And you by the way are right o be outraged for not wanting your tax dollars to fund this behavior. I can't believe people  don't realize this isn't a "private" matter.

People who get scope of their "native american" lore off a placemat at foxwoods casino are tp say the least, entertaining.

DomKen -> RE: I am sorry if I caused a flap calling a user on the War Paint issue... (9/26/2012 8:08:09 PM)

I'm part Cherokee and have been staying out of this because I cannot come up with responses to the bigots that doesn't involve calling them plainly what they are.

It is very difficult, Ken.

It sounds like you echo what Sternskipper hinted at. I certainly understand. I find Tazzygirl has a certain resilience when it comes to facing ugly ideas down, that I wish I could harness.
Saying what you did establishes consensus that it is problematic to have officials as well as their supporters acting in this manner.

Yeah. It's so much easier to disagree with people, when one can call them hateful names, isn't it? It just turns off the whole discussion, and allows those who use such tactics to feel all smug, and aglow with self-esteem.

tazzygirl -> RE: I am sorry if I caused a flap calling a user on the War Paint issue... (9/26/2012 8:50:50 PM)

I grew up being called a "half breed". I am sure you can figure out what word that equates too among other races. "Squaw" is the least of the offending ones. War Paint, another slam.... Praying to the god or water... yet another.

I have seen plenty of hateful comments in regards to this one issue.... being tossed about as if it means nothing whatsoever to anyone. Yet equally as offensive words and phrases have been used and I have seen those same people scream about racism.

So, yes, it is extremely difficult for me not to be brought down to that level.

You did not grow up with my experiences, nor did I grow up with yours. But I can relate to this form of racism in ways you never will be able too. I dont have to work hard to keep racism out of my posts... it comes naturally for me not to offend people for how they look or where they came from. Sadly, others see the political points and go for the touchdown.

My posts in this thread have to do with educating those who have no idea about what its like to get the backgrounds traced and verified.

But I will tell you that any other race would not sit back and watch the slamming done and be silent. For that, I commend Ken for not wallowing in the mud with so many others.

Only you can stop yourself...recognizing that you have the issue is half the battle:)

I am not the subject of the thread, Lucy. Please refrain from making your posts about me.

Tazzy, kids get picked on for their weight, or wearing glasses, or for having a funny accent, or a funny name. If you find a subject comes too close to matters which are personally discomforting, or raise old issues, maybe it's best to disengage?

You are assuming it only happened when I was a kid. That shows how out of touch you are to this issue. I am not uncomfortable discussing these issues. Ken is. I am happy to tackle any issue that comes up. And I can do so with a resonable amount of adult maturity. Something I have seen lacking in almost all the threads on this issue.

Well, if you mean Warren, Tazzy, that's easy to explain. Some of us find that whole affair funnier than hell. Some people don't find it funny at all.

Offend you did I???
The topic is not about you, but you are expecting something you do not give other posters.....
I decided to use my free speech to address you directly, not attack you or group you in with all the other people who MIGHT think I'm talking about them, I responded to you, because of something YOU said. Im not hiding behind the "generalisation rule" hoping to spatter you and everyone else I disagree with.
If this is deemed OT or and attack..so be it

Warren doesnt mean as much to me as this issue does. Make fun of her all you want. Just do so without degrading the native american heritage.

That's the problem. People that think racist sentiments are okay and even funny when it comes to influencing an election. All they have to do is maintain the plausible deniability inferring the target of the racist behavior is "white" and lying.

Yanno, F, I would it find it hilarious that a leading advocate for consumer protection had been playing false advertising games for years, whether she was running for office, or not. [:D]

Yes, but in your attempt to poke fun at her, you are "poking" racial fun at those who did not do anything about it. Her attempt to claim Cherokee heritage has what to do with war paint, water gods, squaws or the rest?

Sounds like racism in this "special case"  gets the old rubber stamp of approval.

The poster waxed all informed'n'shit about "native Americans" in the other thread on this all down with his Narragansett homies. And helpfully relating a practice some redneck invented to some bitch most modern liberals and moderates now realize nearly THREE DECADES LATER was a messed up actress doing bizarre things to stay in the headlines after Barbarella lost it's sparkle. My question is what fucking lame-ass act IS too much fucked behavior for a wingnut before he's critical of their hero?

Meanwhile back in what is reality for the rest of us... The Cherokees... well they kind of differ with this "all in good fun" shit:

“The conduct of these individuals goes far beyond what is appropriate and proper in political discourse,” the chief, Bill John Baker, said in a statement. “The use of stereotypical ‘war whoop chants’ and ‘tomahawk chops’ are offensive and downright racist. It is those types of actions that perpetuate negative stereotypes and continue to minimize and degrade all native peoples.”

And I see TRose has arrived for the nightly derail.
