In my earlier working life I was a journalist, worked in media relations and worked for a City financial company. The money was great, but I spent too much time worrying about the decisions I had had to make, and the morality of my decisions. There came a point when I lost my job through redundancy. I was offered an almost identical role at a rival finance company, but at a significantly higher (six figure, plus lots of perks) salary. I turned it down to train as a teacher. Six years in, and I sleep well at night. I do my best for my students and I have yet to make any decisions that have made me lose sleep. Could I go back to a job that bruised my conscience? No way in hell!
