Okay....I'm 54....have trouble sleeping....

(I blame my ex wife for that by the way....but that's really beside the point...let's focus on the facts....shall we...it really doesn't matter that she was an evil, Satan like {entity}, what matters is that I've taken control of my own issues....and....that she was SATAN PERSONIFIED and that really doesn't play into the facts, as I'm discussing them).

That she was (as an aside) SATAN is really beside the point....we're here to discuss my issues....

So....I don't sleep well (it's really not pertinent that it's probably entirely related to SATAN but.....)....

At 54....(you girls know everything...ya'll know all that stuff about how to make men live longer) I'm wondering if there's any clues to living longer.

(Let's exclude all that smoking and drinking stuff because...well...I see all those bicyclists going by my office on Sunday and frankly....they're missing a bet).

(Not of course that I have an issue with that).

Said in the most submissive of ways.

So...a succubus has possessed you in the night, and you are feeling draggy?

Vitamin B, a Seabreeze, and Pall Malls, unfiltered.

There ya go, sweetie.

Succubus.....

(Come get me).

OsideGirl -> RE: Vitamins / supplements (10/3/2012 4:42:07 PM)

The best stuff I found is Passion 4 Life. It's a liquid multi-vitamin, whole food, etc.

I had suffered from insomnia for about two years. (The type where you wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep)

Two weeks into taking P4L, I was sleeping the entire night. It's not cheap, but I can definitely feel the difference without it.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Vitamins / supplements (10/3/2012 4:44:37 PM)

Where do you find it, OsideGirl? Do you order it?

OsideGirl -> RE: Vitamins / supplements (10/3/2012 4:56:42 PM)

Order it online. I have it set up as an auto-shipment.

It's an ounce a day (unless I'm sick), so a bottle lasts a month.

Tincture.

I'll be at the store tomorrow.

This might sound like an INSANE suggestion, but restorative yoga is really good for insomnia.

descrite -> RE: Vitamins / supplements (10/3/2012 7:40:35 PM)

Ambien.

But do NOT leave your computer on/Internet connection active after you pop one. You will awake to entire conversations you did not remember having.

You might have even bought a plane ticket, with no recollection of the transaction. Just sayin'.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Vitamins / supplements (10/3/2012 7:50:42 PM)

Valerian, in capsule form.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Vitamins / supplements (10/3/2012 7:57:44 PM)

Does the valerian make you groggy in the morning, Miss Chatte? Most sleeping stuff makes me jittery, then I can't wake up in the morning.

hausboy -> RE: Vitamins / supplements (10/3/2012 8:01:53 PM)

hey Lookie...

I started having serious insomnia (as in, I sleep 4-6 hours only a night) about 5 years ago when my wife divorced me.

A few things that have been helping me...

exercise, no caffeine after noon, I eliminate "blue light" sources--tv, computer, even alarm clock and cell phones 1 hour before bed...

I'm too scared of ambien. My housemate takes it...and he frickin' sleep eats every single night.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Vitamins / supplements (10/3/2012 8:03:37 PM)

Sleep eats? Have you seen him, or is he just using it as an excuse to scam your food?

Yeah....I've tried that excuse. It didn't work.

"No, honey, I absolutely do not remember telling that man on the internet that he could fuck me on our bed while you wear a cheerleader outfit and stand in the corner! It must have been insomnia!"

:)

Hibbie...I swear...I saw it! THe past three nights I've slept downstairs on the couch (yeah, remind me to tell you--the bee removal expert came)

the guy comes downstairs around 1:30 2 am ish every night... he stands like a zombie, fridge door open for 15-20min....and he blindly shoves food in his mouth (he doesn't have any food in the fridge that's his but some slices of american cheese) he didn't even notice when he dropped slices on the floor at his feet...

then like a zombie he goes back upstairs....

....IT'S SCARY!

kitkat105 -> RE: Vitamins / supplements (10/3/2012 8:53:18 PM)

Oh! And there is the "melotonin" supplements you can buy. It's one of the chemicals released when you sleep and you can even buy giant bottles of it at Costco.

littlewonder -> RE: Vitamins / supplements (10/3/2012 9:54:49 PM)

good luck. If you ever figure out how to fall asleep, please let me know your secret. [&o]

I have tried every herb, pill, medication, drink, technique, etc....to no avail or side effects that were extremely dangerous.

The only thing that even comes close to helping me sleep right now is the dicyclomine my doc gave me for my throat spasms. I'm only supposed to take one with each meal but found that if I take about 4 of them at bed, I start to drift off faster. I've been trying not to take them though because I'll either get addicted to them or they just can't be good for me in that way....but they help.

HAHAHAHA!

Well, United believed it, oddly enough.

They may be more forgiving than your husband, though. heh.

And...yeah...sleep-eating is a thing. Wanna hear dangerous? Sleep-making-onion rings.

If you can conceive of something more dangerous than deep-frying in a fugue state, don't do that thing, either.

But it's worth it, for a good night's rest. And sweet, sweet Ambien won't leave you torpid the next morning, unless you drink along with it.

Benadryl is also good (including over-the-counter stuff), but you will build up an immunity to it, eventually.

Melotonin is pretty much a hoax. Used in combination with those other chems, though, it rocks.

Exercise does NOT work, especially if you're using meds, too. Exercise reduces your need for sleep, and when combined with benadryl, makes some killer speed (remember when they called 'em "bennies," waaaayyyy back when? no? Benzadrine, a variant...Fleming even has Bond use some, during an underwater sequence, in one of the books)-- hence, your jitters. If you must use meds and exercise, do your workout in the morning, not in the afternoon or evening.

Earplugs. Blackout cover on the windows.

I have yet to test a sensory deprivation chamber. But I think that would be supreme.

littlewonder -> RE: Vitamins / supplements (10/4/2012 12:02:09 AM)

I took Ambien for awhile. It was a nightmare! I apparently would write emails to people and then find out the next day that they were angry at me and I had no idea why until they would show me the email. I would do all kinds of weird shit, I would have blackouts and then one night I apparently fell down a flight of steps. The next day I woke up all sore and bruised. The ex Dom at the time said I had fallen down the steps and he didn't know what to do so he just put me back in bed and kept an eye on me all night. After that I refused to take anymore.

But lately with my insomnia being worse than it's been for awhile, I'm desperately wishing for Ambien again even though I'm scared as hell to ever use it again plus I don't think my doc will give it to me anyway since she knows how it affected me.
