There must be a fair few people on here that have put some thought into collars.

I just wanted to know what peoples thoughts are toward their collars?

And things like, is it obviously a collar or is it a symbolic necklace or something?
How much time do you spend wearing it?
Was picking it out a big decision?

It would be good if people could share pics of their collars!
The pic below is just of google but I really like this collar, makes me warm n fuzzy just looking at it.

My collar for Hugh was a bracelet. In a pattern called "anchor", because he was a sailor.

Physical objects are nice because they're a reminder of me when I'm not there. Men need reminders.

Ours is a straightforward stainless eternity collar. In my eyes it is not obviously a collar although it could be construed that way. It could also go "industrial design necklace". In Carol's mind it is a flaming neon sign which reads, "I'm a slave, be uncomfortable around me". Originally it was 24/7 but since I failed to rework that part of her the collar has become more the occasional decoration inside the house.

It's basically this but I had her sand it so the finish was brushed rather than polished.

mine is a bracelet on both arms, symbolic of always wearing slavery cuffs.
worn 24/7. Never come off...ever...oh wait, except when I'm flying because I'm forced to take them off and then I feel naked without them and I hate the feeling.
Never a big decision. They were just chosen because either he or I liked it.

I don't have pictures of all of them, but we interchange them based on circumstances.

There's a Lady Mockingbird locking copper collar that I wear for outings.
There's a sterling silver heart on a silver chain, engraved with Daddy's Little Girl
There's a black leather collar with a D Ring that is used when playing
There's a new white leather "wide" (not quite a posture collar but wow) with a D ring, for playing
And then the chainmaille ankle bracelet he bought at Folsom Street Fair last month

They are all symbols of his ownership. I like the feel of them on me, although the new white leather will take adjusting to. They give me a feeling of being bound to him in a physical way.

Edited to add: We looked at several collars online together, before he chose the copper one. Ultimately he had me pick out the top three that I liked, and then surprised me with his choice of the three. The ankle bracelet was also shopped for together. He let me pick out the colors (yellowish-gold and silver) and it was made for me on the spot at Folsom Street. The others were chosen by him and placed on me.

I love my collar. It (because of what it represents) is very important to me. To my Master and me, it symbolizes his ownership of me, my belonging to him, and our love, devotion, and commitment to each other. I love wearing his collar, and he loves having me wear it. It feels good and comfortable to have something physical around my neck, a tangible artifact of my belonging to him.

It is quite obviously a collar. It's 1.25" wide, double-thick leather (blue on black) with a black suede lining. On the D-ring is a tag featuring my name on one side and 'Property of *his full name*' on the other.

I wear it at all times whenever possible. Unfortunately I can't wear it when I am sleeping because while I'm asleep my neck sweats in it and it gets very itchy (and I then end up scratching and tearing up my neck in my sleep...) Obviously I also cannot wear it while showering or swimming. I have had to remove it for X-rays and the like too. Other than these types of exceptions, it is always on my neck wherever I go.

Picking it out was a nice bonding experience. For a while I had a "temporary" collar before we chose this one. When we picked this one out, we looked online together at all sorts of collars. In the end we had this one custom-made for me. He (with some input from me) picked out the style and colors that he thought matched me best. I love it and am very proud of it.

Said collar is pictured in my avatar photo, but here is another picture of it:

My collar makes me feel secure and protected... and proud to be owned. The first collar we got was a plain leather collar, about 1 inch wide with one d ring. It served its purpose but we just got a new collar, it just arrived today and I got to try it on. It's 2 1/2 inches wide, three rings and a locking buckle. I felt even more secure and proud in it and Master loved the way I looked. We got it from the Collarme BDSM gear site.Since I'm having a problem with adding a picture, here is the link to the collor on the site: http://www.extremerestraints.com/collars_12/strict-leather-premium-locking-collars_208.html. It's the strict leather premium collar for $48.50.

My collar is a pink leather collar with one d ring. To me my collar shows that I am taken and owned. I try to wear it 24/7. I have requested that there are repercussions for if I somehow forget to put it on.

I wanted pink too... collar, restraints, etc... but Master wasn't crazy about that. I gave him a gift of a remote control bullet that only came in pink or purple. I decided on the purple and, even though it's his favorite toy (he just loves torturing me with it lol), he wished it came in a more masculine color - his words (of course, he was slightly joking about that). lol

heh...I don't remember the details but I remember Master and I talking about a toy or something to use on me and he said sure, but not in pink lol. I usually do my best to find toys in a neutral color...white, black, beige, chrome.

I think it was a flogger somewhere and they only had a pink one lol. Just picturing Master using a pink toy would crack me up laughing to the point we'd both be laughing too hard to even use it.

To us, the collar was equal to a marriage.

I have a leather play collar and an Eternity collar, but since we have a somewhat 1950s arrangement, my wedding ring is the ultimate symbol for me. Obviously, it's on 24/7.

In the case of my girl, I had a good idea of what I wanted her to wear. I spent a week or so going through a few dozen sites to see what I wanted, comparing local shops to online designers. I knew the right one as soon as I saw it, and I had her name incorporated into it, using her favourite colour. It was a big thing to me, and a big thing for her.

She can't always wear it, but she does put it on when I'm not with her; she sent me a picture of herself wearing it recently while she was house cleaning. Coincidentally, this was something she and I were talking about recently. She doesn't post, but I'll see if she has a picture of it that she's ok with me posting, Aries.

I was going to go back and edit my last post, but I was three minutes too late.

Oh well, here's the pic anyhow, the one I mentioned in the previous post. It was just a quick snapshot she took to show me, she was very busy cleaning at the time. You can't see the detailing on the collar, but it's adorned with stylized dinosaur imprints (she absolutely loves dinosaurs).

What does a collar mean...

To me, it means

Mundane "reality" just got left outside:

Now, the intimacy of relationship is the center of reality,
and kink, mixing us together intensely, is our means.

That isn't the same as "this one owns that one":
it seems that the relationship owns both, right?

Cheers,

I have worn a collar, which we both chose, a bit the way you'd choose a wedding ring. I've also worn an ankle bracelet, which could stay on as a 24/7 reminder of her ownership. Both felt very good; warm, symbolic of being wanted. I have to say, I miss them. And her. Sniff.

Collar for Me is a sign of commitment in both directions. The Master/Mistress is committing to care for, protect, and use his slave as he sees fit.
The collar is a physical reminder to the slave of her being owned. It is also a symbol of her submission and commitment to care for, look after and serve her Master.
also from other side a collar is a sign of ownership, it debases the human to the position of an animal. It symbolizes lack of ability to have any human rights ,It symbolizes a lack of control over ones impulses, essentially. You are no better, or worthwhile than a dog or a nasty pig.
slave essentially surrender her right to have opinion, as slaves do not have viable opinions, they are subservient in an absolute fashion to their master.

I have 4 pieces that symbolize the same things as a collar.
A silver "eternity" type collar that I don't wear often because I can't find the charm I want for it. But I do wear it when we go out. It's appropriate in vanilla settings but scene folk know what it is right away.
Two silver matching bracelets that also match the silver collar. They never come off, not even when I had my surgery. They would break if removed, we did that intentionally. Breaking them in an emergency is fine.
A leather collar that I wear for scenes if it;s incoporated into what He wants to do wtih me. That one is also not worn often.

And of course my wedding rings that are worn all the time.

The pieces that I wear 24/7 mean a lot to me. They are a physical symbol of being owned by Him. They are a way for me to have a physical link to Him no matter where I am or what I'm doing.
I could live without them if I had to of course, but while I am able to havae them, they are a comfort to me.

He on the other hand has stated many times that He doesn't need any physical reminders that He owns me, He adores me, He loves me....He just does all of those things. Of course it doesn't really need pointing ut that He also wears His wedding ring 24/7 and judging by how often he fiddles with it, He would miss it if it weren't there :)

***for the record, if and when another woman becomes a 24/7 part of our lives, we would also make sure she had matching rings as well as bracelets.
