Yachtie -> 7.8% and I have a bridge to sell too (10/5/2012 6:05:05 AM)

US unemployment rate falls to 7.8 pct. in September, lowest since Jan. 2009; hiring increases

I call bullshit on this.

Tsk tsk..... not the numbers you were hoping for. We shall just have to wait to see the adjustments.

How can an increase of 114K lower unemployment to 7.8% when the increase of the working age population increased by 206K as reported by the household survey?

One answer I can fathom is that the required difference to achieve 7.8% is composed of the increase of people not in the labor force.

I read a piece yesterday titled "Obama`s next big hurdle,Friday`s Jobs Report".

I thought,if it`s a bad one....Mitten`s and friends would jump on it and parade around and such.

And if it was a positive report....the lunatic fringe would call it a lie, bullshit etc....

Damm Tazzy, I`m practically psychotic............err, I mean psychic....[:D]

It must be depressingly awful to have as your only hope of winning ......... the hope that our economy gets worse.

Almost as if these "hopers" weren`t Americans............

tazzygirl -> RE: 7.8% and I have a bridge to sell too (10/5/2012 6:27:27 AM)

Your article states how....

The September gains were led by the health care industry, which added 44,000 jobs — the most since February. Transportation and warehousing also showed large gains. The revisions showed that governments actually added 63,000 jobs in July and August, compared with earlier estimates that showed losses.

The question is, are these numbers actually good?

So putting it all together, what does this mean for the true state of the US economy? Recall back in September one of our Charts of the Day was the number of Unemployed and Underemployed for the month of August, which was 25.8 million. Readers may be surprised to learn that when putting it all together, in September this number increased to 26.2 million.

So what we have is a stunning increase in the underemployed. Part time work is the cause. Hardly a reason for exuberance. It underscores one sentence from the article.

The number of people with part-time jobs who wanted full-time work rose 7.5 percent to 8.6 million.

This is hardly indicative of a healthy economy. But hey, unemployment dropped to 7.8%.

subspaceseven -> RE: 7.8% and I have a bridge to sell too (10/5/2012 6:34:14 AM)

Don't waste your time with facts, as stated by Romneys team, facts don't matter to us.

Gee you would think that everyone would be happy things are turning around, but NOOOOOO....it's only good when the USA fails under Obama according to some

DomYngBlk -> RE: 7.8% and I have a bridge to sell too (10/5/2012 6:34:55 AM)

Aww whats a matter yachtie....the whole thing falling apart on you?

Only the math.

I saw that CNBC was even calling bullshit to it. It's not just about Romney or Obama. It's about the government trying to get people feeling better and restart the credit bubble.

TheHeretic -> RE: 7.8% and I have a bridge to sell too (10/5/2012 6:55:31 AM)

So let me make sure I have this right. According to a number any thinking person is going to know is horseshit, the lowest unemployment rate since President Obama took office is 7.8%, and the Democrats think this is something to gloat over?

Oh yeah. Give us four more years of that...

wnyThroatLover -> RE: 7.8% and I have a bridge to sell too (10/5/2012 6:56:02 AM)

Well, there is the 38 minutes of bullshit that spewed forth from his lie hole the other night at the debate..."that was all true too, riiiiiiight? Those live fact checkers, they are just making it all up!"

Most of the above statement is directly quoted from my grandfather...a faux-newsican with no ability to understand logic...

And not to spark an even greater debate (but maybe throw some napalm on this political snafu)...there was a study done, I'm trying to find the link again now, that showed the average republican has an IQ 15 points lower and finished school with grades and retention 25% lower than the average from any other voting stance...

...just sayin...

wnyThroatLover -> RE: 7.8% and I have a bridge to sell too (10/5/2012 7:12:24 AM)

Found the news article about it...and with some monster trick-clicking, its easy to find the study itself

Of course of course that`s.....the question.....yawn.

Let`s talk about what is without question......tho....

That if the report was a bad one......you and the other "patriots' would be trumpeting it.

Whatev`ah.......

The normal average person isn`t going to take a loan out based on this report and knows how these numbers are come to.

They also know, that it`s heading in the right direction.

Most folks don`t want Romeny as their president and are reluctant to replace the President and want to get him a chance.

Unless something overwhelming happens.....they`ll reelect the President.

The crash of '29' didn`t get fixed in three years and most folks acknowledge that this one won`t get fixed in three years either.Even you cons know this(but won`t admit it.)

But the economy it is, getting fixed.

Wow. Simply wow.

What, exactly, does 15 IQ points get you? What is the IQ, and what does it mean in real terms?

I believe the quoted number is that you need 150k jobs monthly to keep up with population aging without changing the unemployment rate.

I guess I'm too stoopid to remember that one of the knocks on Bush's <5% unemployment was that those jobs were low-paying part-time jobs. Now, however, I'm too stoopid to see that it's not the same for Obama.

Welcome to the boards, btw. You'll fit in just fine.

Only in that the economy is not improving. It's not a partisan thing. Math is not political.

That's assuming government intervention is the way to go. It isn't, but that's not the topic.

Um, if there was no fuzzy math going on and the numbers were bad, we'd have a reason to be pointing it out. If there was no fuzzy math going on and the numbers were good, you'd have reason to be pointing it out. As there is, there was fuzzy math going on and we're calling bullshit on the fuzzy math.

The "most folks" polls won't be decided until early November.

True enough, and the policies taken by the Administration of the time lengthened the recovery process. The recession of 1921 was over well within 3 years, and what did the Federal Government do that time?

Greetings,

Oh yes, the latest Obama tack, "I did not lose, Romney lied".

Glad you bought up the importance of facts since they do matter . Here are the facts, two thirds of our employment gains were part time jobs this month. Job growth is down, not up. GDP is down, not up. This means this suddenly low unemployment number reflects a larger number of Americans have been unemployed more than 12 months now or the number is bogus, but who thinks that, right? I mean an attack on our embassy on 9/11 could be due to a video, right?

Anybody feel the independent block of uncommited voters are going to buy this? My feeling is they are independent because they tend to be thoughtful and want to understand what is behind the headlines before making decisions.

Live well,
Arturas
