My pet peeves?

- Food that isn't advertised as spicy being spicy.
- Hidden cilantro as a garnish. (Couldn't help but add that!)
- People who haven't been taught manners. You know? Please, thank you, bless you, not to cut lines.
- The person who drives past my house at 10am everyday with one of those obnoxious musical car horns.
- Shops take don't take credit/debit. It's the year 2012.
- Kids these days. They make me feel old and I'm only 27.

sorry, you can all come up with any situation you like. i just don't care when someone is putting others at risk by speeding, i'll move at the right time, not because someone is bullying me into doing it.

i'm sure that when any of those speeding people kill someone else it will all be cool. however, i'm not rushing myself out of the way and putting me and mine at risk.

we all have our own thoughts on the subject, but if i have the right to be where i am then i'll do what i need to do. i won't be guilted by any of you into thinking that those people are right. if you have an open road and want to risk yourselves then crack on. in traffic i think you are being down right selfish.

just for the record, i'm in the middle lane usually over taking lorries, or i've moved there for slip lane traffic because i am curteous like that. but i won't be pressured, or guilted into moving quicker than i need to when i'm doing the speed limit. they can live with it or contact the correct authorities for help in their urgent situation. i don't like slow drivers myself, and i'm rather vocal about it in my own car. however, i wouldn't try bully them into moving so i can break the speed limit.

i've nothing else to say on the subject.

Self-righteousness (also called sanctimoniousness, sententiousness, a holier-than-thou attitudes[1]) is a feeling of (usually) smug moral superiority[2] derived from a sense that one's beliefs, actions, or affiliations are of greater virtue than those of the average person.

And what about the safety of the line of people backed up behind you? Let me guess, they can go fuck off huh?

They just had a 47 car pile-up in Tampa,Florida recently. Things like that happen more when lines of cars are piled up going 70. Like say... When somebody won't move out of the way to let traffic pass.

Let's say you have to slam on the breaks. 70 to zero as soon as possible. Will the person behind you stop as fast? What about the next 8 cars behind him? I have seen people do exactly what you do, for the exact same reason probably.

You are more dangerous than speeders.

So when my husband was killed, his parents had to drive 5 hours to get to us at the hospital so they could see their only boy one last chance before he passed away. I'm going to guess that they were WELL over the speed limit on their way to see him. How would anyone know the reason they were speeding? To everyone else it would have just looked like a jerk speeding but in reality it was two distraught parents who wanted nothing more than to talk to their son one last time. What parent would not do this?? Jerks or cunts? No. Grieving parents.

A couple of years ago I was dating someone who lived about 80 miles from me, who suddenly went into cardiac arrest at home and was airlifted to a hospital in Pueblo, about 45 miles from where I live. Needless to say, it was a tense ride there, on a road w/only 1 lane going each way, with not a lot of passing areas. You can believe your sweet patootie I did my best to speed, when I could. The sad part is one obstimate, control-freak of a woman driver would NOT, under any circumstances, go a mile above the speed limit, would NOT allow me to pass (sped up to stop me from doing so, until the passing lines ended, and would NOT give way even though I continuously honked, flashed my lights, and had my head and left arm flailing out the window begging her, for nearly 30 min., to let me pass. She did not. As a result, I was stressed out of my mind, and did NOT make it to the hospital in time to say goodbye before he dropped the body. Had I been there 10 min. earlier, which I would have if she had gotten the hell out of the way. That selfish, control-freak stole that opportunity from both of us, and I'm sure felt very proud of herself that she did all she could do to keep me from speeding, by self-deputizing herself with State Police powers. I only wish she knew the heartache she caused.

For those who don't like to get out of the fast lane, I have 2 things.

1. It's fucking illegal.

2. Any time Im in the fast lane and someone comes up behind me, if I'm not passing cars, I pull over. Wanna know why?
They're going really fast if they're passing me and nothing warms the cockles of my heart more than someone who just HAD to get by me recieving a speeding ticket a few miles down the road. I fucking LOVE it. It gives me serious wood. It's all I can do not to beep and wave.

If you don't pull over, you'll never feel that joy. In fact, you may be the one with blue lights behind you for 'obstructing'.

Now this I think is adorable, not a pet peeve. I have had children approach me who I don't know and start up a conversation with me and it was just so cute. I was on the bus and had a little boy sitting next to me while daddy was standing since there were no more seats. They were going to the baseball game, the little boy's first one. He kept going on about how fun it was gonna be, his dad just bought him the cap and new shoes just for the occasion and all about where he lived and then tried talking like he was a grown-up about everyday stuff and I just laughed and talked to him. I enjoyed the conversation! It passed the time on a crowded bus, it kept him from jumping all over the place or annoying his dad. His dad was smiling at his son and me and I think he thought it was cute too. It was adorable. It was one of the very few times around strangers that I actually felt there may be something positive in man after all....a little maybe.

Ok another peeve....babies crying...LOUDLY....in fancy adult restaurants....you know..the ones that take your entire paycheck for two dinners. Eeeerr...WTF would you bring a screaming baby or for that matter, a baby at all??? When that happens we are then forced to find another table away from there or quickly eat and leave or leave before we even sit down and look for somewhere else to go.

lw, your comment leads me to believe you are not a mother. Parents with young children deserve a nice dinner just as much as you do.

My peeve is NOT crying infants/children. There is always a reason for their behaviour. My peeve is with parents who do absolutely nothing to calm and soothe their children. Parents who are trying to soothe their child but are having difficulties have nothing but my sympathies. I have children of my own. I get it.

You would be wrong there ydd. Littlewonder has a daughter. I have to agree with her on the screaming babies thing. And yeah, parents can easily have a nice dinner by leaving their child with a family member or babysitter.

1. Dogs in stores. Seriously, the hell? (I get PetSmart. I don't like it or understand it, but it is at least expected. When I worked in a bookstore, get your dog the FUCK out of my goddamn store.)

2. Kids. Especially in fairly nice restaurants. If I and/or the person I am with are expected to spend more than $10 (yes, I'm cheap, and the cost of living is low here, so that's actually not unreasonable to consider that expensive) on an entree alone, I expect parents to shut their tiny shits up. I also hate children at midnight showings of movies. Seriously - I saw HP7a (twice, actually) and there was a 4-5 year old in there. Seriously? Not age appropriate, and not the right time for a brat anyway.

3. People.

4. People who flip me off after cutting me off/running stop signs etc in front of my. The heck? If I do something stupid, sure I may deserve your wrath, but I am a very conservative careful driver, so that is rare.

5. Noises. Though this may be an actual medical condition, from what I hear. Little noises (let someone sucking their teeth, or smacking their lips or something most people don't notice) drive me up the wall. Leg jiggling also falls in to this category. A PITA woman I work with was jiggling her leg so much at a meeting the damn table was shaking. And not a little table - a fairly heavy 12-seater. It was really annoying me...

6. People who don't have the same work ethic. This is clearly my own fault - I expect people to work the way I work, or at least close to it, when they are on my team. Focus on the task, get things done, not spend much working hours on personal things. I am hourly - you're hourly, that means we are getting paid by the hour to produce. Let's produce please!

Ah... man I needed a venting session. I am a complete nutcase, but I try not to let these things outwardly bother me. Inwardly, I just seethe and stew and plot horrible things that I will never actually follow through with.

The babes-in-restaurants subtopic brings to mind an amusing (imho) memory. When my oldest nephew was a baby, we brought him to Christmas Mass, which seemed to be particularly long and tedious that year. Every time the poor kid opened his mouth more than a millimeter, my brother would take him outside. I finally figured out that what was really happening was that my brother was bored, and I then became a bit jealous that I didn't have an infant of my own as a "Get out of church free" card.

I've got a few pet peeves....

crumbs. specifically....people who share your kitchen, eat without a plate and let their crumbs fall where they may....

.....lessee...when someone eats food(out of a shared fridge) that he didn't buy...and doesn't replace it....

...hmmm....leaving lights and fans on....tracking mud thru the house....I can go on.
OKAY. So my fucking housemate basically steps on all my pet peeves.
He does pay on time. in cash.

Oh.
and people who hijack a pet peeves thread into one about their own debate on speeding.

I'm kidding about that last one.

Sort of.

Okay, No, I'm not.

The usual driving things like not using a signal or someone pulling out in front of me or whipping over into my lane suddenly. Commit suicide if you will, assholes, but please don't take me with you.

At the library where I work, there are wastebaskets everywhere. All I seem to get done is pick up trash out of the floor, esp. paper. WTF? The floor is not a trash can, ya lazy assholes.

People with a huge basket of stuff who bust their ass to get in front of someone at the store who has one or two things. Really, asshole? I gotta stand here while you buy a month's worth of groceries and there's only one checkout line open and no self-check? Grrrr, I could punch 'em in the face.

Loudmouths in movie theaters. I always politely ask them to shut it.

I'm sure there's lots more but those are at the top o' the list today

So true. Awhile back, this woman in a huge-ass minivan pulled right out in front of me. I kid you not, she was on her phone as she pulled out of the local McDonald's, steering with one hand I guess and trying to eat fries too! She pulled her big ass right out in front of me causing me to have to slam on the brakes to keep from hitting her. I was so stunned, I just kind of took a deep breath and looked over at my passenger and laughed like "Can you fuckin' believe this woman?" I looked back up and the bitch was flippin' ME off. I just cracked up laughing. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't experienced it myself. Now if THAT wasn't the height of cunti-ness, I don't know what is. She put my life in danger and then flipped me off. Bitch!

That is fairly brilliant...

I've attended one mass, and from what I understand it was actually pretty laid-back.

Still hellishly (hah) boring, though.

This isn't so much a pet peeve, as something to add to the brats/stupid parents thing.

I was at my university, in the lunch area after taking a particularly brutal test I thought I failed, so I was sort of miserable. The area was not really popular, but there were still a decent amount of people around. I had just finished eating in a hurry and was about to rush off to a professor's office to discuss an assignment and this bitch pushing a big stroller on her cell phone with a little boy (maybe 3 years old) beside her. I squeeze between her and the condiments table and her brat pulls away from her and knocks in to my purse (pretty sure purse and not bookbag) and falls down. I am in a hurry and in a shitty mood, so I am NOT ok when she turns around (ignore her now crying brat) and says "EXCUSE ME?" I flip her off and move on my way.

Which actually does tie in to brats at restaurants a bit - brats on a college campus. I don't care if it has a huge nontraditional student population. It is still a school and I still have school-related shit you are interfering with.

I'm a potty mouth tonight.

Most of the pet peeves I have had were resolved by karma.
