Actually this is my pet peeve anywhere. I know I don't have children so I really can't judge but if your child is crying, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!! IT'S CRYING FOR A REASON!!! FIX IT!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kit, this is what I was trying to get across. Your peeve shouldn't be with the little one...it should be with the parent!

lw, your comment leads me to believe you are not a mother. Parents with young children deserve a nice dinner just as much as you do.

My peeve is NOT crying infants/children. There is always a reason for their behaviour. My peeve is with parents who do absolutely nothing to calm and soothe their children. Parents who are trying to soothe their child but are having difficulties have nothing but my sympathies. I have children of my own. I get it.

I have an adult daughter who I raised all by myself. When she was little I would have never even THOUGHT about taking her to fancy adult places. We went places that were FOR children...MickeyD's, Chucky Cheese, the park, to my sisters' houses, etc. I would have felt ashamed to bring my screaming baby into a respectable, adult place. That's just rude and annoying. I never started taking her to nice, fancy places until she was probably about 10 years old and could be quiet in public. If she acted up, I paid for the dinners and immediately left the place.

I remember when my daughter was about 3 years old I took her to ToysRUs to look for some kind of toy she wanted. Well the entire time from the moment we were inside to the time we left she was kicking, screaming, biting me, etc....because I refused to buy her a toy she was looking at. It was a lot of money and I told her to wait for Santa. That wasn't good enough for her. She we were in the store MAYBE 10 minutes before she became even worse to I picked her up all the while kicking me in the thighs and stomach and walked right out with the guards outside the door thought I was abusing my daughter. I just looked at them and said "She's abusing me!". They didn't like that answer and just gave me a "bad mommy!" look.

After that I never ever took her anywhere ever again until she was at an age where she wasn't quite AS bad. Otherwise, I left her with my sister or mom while I went shopping . Never ever again. Thank gawd I only ever had one!

When I go out to dinner with Master the last thing either of us wants to hear is a baby screaming in our ears. We're there to enjoy the nice, candlelit dinner, some jazz or classical music and just relax with a little romance and fun as a couple.

Waiting for months for appointments that are needed right now.

sorry, you can all come up with any situation you like. i just don't care when someone is putting others at risk by speeding, i'll move at the right time, not because someone is bullying me into doing it.

i'm sure that when any of those speeding people kill someone else it will all be cool. however, i'm not rushing myself out of the way and putting me and mine at risk.

we all have our own thoughts on the subject, but if i have the right to be where i am then i'll do what i need to do. i won't be guilted by any of you into thinking that those people are right. if you have an open road and want to risk yourselves then crack on. in traffic i think you are being down right selfish.

just for the record, i'm in the middle lane usually over taking lorries, or i've moved there for slip lane traffic because i am curteous like that. but i won't be pressured, or guilted into moving quicker than i need to when i'm doing the speed limit. they can live with it or contact the correct authorities for help in their urgent situation. i don't like slow drivers myself, and i'm rather vocal about it in my own car. however, i wouldn't try bully them into moving so i can break the speed limit.

i've nothing else to say on the subject.

needles

Self-righteousness (also called sanctimoniousness, sententiousness, a holier-than-thou attitudes[1]) is a feeling of (usually) smug moral superiority[2] derived from a sense that one's beliefs, actions, or affiliations are of greater virtue than those of the average person.

And what about the safety of the line of people backed up behind you? Let me guess, they can go fuck off huh?

They just had a 47 car pile-up in Tampa,Florida recently. Things like that happen more when lines of cars are piled up going 70. Like say... When somebody won't move out of the way to let traffic pass.

Let's say you have to slam on the breaks. 70 to zero as soon as possible. Will the person behind you stop as fast? What about the next 8 cars behind him? I have seen people do exactly what you do, for the exact same reason probably.

You are more dangerous than speeders.

i sorry but you appear to be being deliberately giving situations that are in favour of people choosing to break the law speeding! if i do 70 and have to break suddenly it is not my fault if anyone behind me is speeding and can't break in time. IT@S THERE FAULT FOR SPEEDING! if the other people behind were actually more considerate instead of self absorbed, selfish people then there maybe wouldn't be so many pile ups.

now get off my back and take a good look at what you are actually saying. everyone seems to be of the opinion that speeding, and bullying drivers doing the legal limit is correct. it isn't it's wrong! you are not being held up if you are all doing the same limit as stated by the law. do you not see that? if everyone does 70 everyone is moving correctly in flow, therefore there is no such thing as impedement. anyone with an emergency should contact the relavent authorities to get an escort, not expect everyone else to be a fricking mind reader, and potentially put others at risk. your individual status does not mean that everyone else should jump just because you want them too.

if there are three lanes of traffic, and the inside lane is full of lorries doing 60 i have every right to stay in the middle lane at the legal limit. if anyone wants to pass me there's another fucking lane right at the side of me. over take me already and fuck off from my bumper. it's really that simple.

it's not sanctamony, it's the right way to drive. the only reason anyone would say different is because they think they have the right to bully other drivers, put people at risk by doing so, as well as break the law by speeding.

we are talking MIDDLE LANE, that means there are THREE LANES, if i, or anyone else choosing to stick to the rules needs to be in the middle lane, just use that THIRD LANE with all the other speeders.

i'm not going to back off what i believe is a safer way to drive just so others can break the law.

now that we do agree on. it's the same around my way. even to the point that the regulars must watch for people not being at home. i had several items taken off of my drive that couldn't be seen from the road. the only way they could have know they were there is by coming down the drive. now i have no problem with them seeing something, and then knocking on the door to see if they can take it, but they are a law to themselves.

what really gets me is that the bin men can't even step foot on your drive to get your bin to empty it in my area. if it's not on the end of the drive, or on the path they can't empty it. but the gypsies can come on the drive and take what the hell they like.

talking of bin men. put the bins back where you got them from instead of leaving them in the middle of the path blocking the street the whole way down.

i'm also with everyone else on the crying/screaming/rampaging kids. and yes i am also a mum, only i taught my son better manners. i have always been able to take him anywhere, and know he'd behave correctly. i have no idea why you'd want to take your kids to a place that is adult based anyway when there are sssoooooooo many kid based places to go. my mum works in an expencive clothes shop. she hates the mums that let their kids chase around the the clothes stands grabbing at the clothes as they do. she says she often feels like Barbie at the end of the day having had a false grin on all day.

I am not sure where you live, but here there are signs that say "Keep to the right, except to pass".

If there is no one in the slow lane, I have to wonder why you feel the need to aggravate others. I know that here, going the speed limit on 285 will get you run over. Doing it in the fast lane may very well get you shot.

I find it commendable that you want to follow the law. I find it strange that you feel doing so gives you the right to impede others.

Just wanted to stick my neck out then retreat like a turtle on the speeding issue. I'm in agreement with needles, but I was also taught to go with the flow of traffic. If everyone is going 10 over or under, I will match the group speed so as to not be a danger to myself or others. However, I do go the posted speed limit 95% of the time (I travel mostly side streets). Around here you rarely see left lane is for passing only, but I'm in suburbia and that's mostly in the larger cities.

I never understood why so many drivers think left lane = allowed to speed. It is the same with HOV lanes, and I just do not understand the logic. The speed limit applies to all vehicles in all lanes.

i'm in the uk. the whole point that i am making isn't about clear inside lanes, and to start with my comment was about being in the middle lane doing the speed limit because i need to be there, and then someone thinking they have the right to bully me into moving. as usual on here people latch on one little thing and turn it into a huge debate instead of taking everything said as the whole context.

why should i be forced to move into slower moving traffic so someone else can speed, thus break the law. go around me. if i'm in a lane it's because i need to be. as for this damned impedement thing everyone is sssooooooo obsessed about. if it was someone doing 45 in a 70 zone dual carriageway, and there is room for them in the inside lane, then yes i get it. however, if you are doing the speed limit, it's called the limit for a reason. everyone should be doing the same limit. nothing makes speeding legal.

i don't see why people think the concept of speeding is correct, and the ones doing the right speed are the ones in the wrong. you see the signs over here all the time; speed kills, and so it does.

locally a couple of years ago a lady let a boy racer over take her because he was tailgating and flashing his lights at her. just down the road she came across his car with three of the boys dead. not only had he killed himself, and two of his friends, but had also involved two other cars. one containing an elderly couple, both dead, the other a mother and two of her daughters, the daughters dead. the lady that let him pass told the press how guilty she felt for letting him past as she had been doing the legal limit of 50mph, so really there was no need other than the lads selfishness thinking he was better than anyone else on the road. 6 other people dead, two seriously injured.

so yeah, i guess when you just can't wait, and you know you are better than anyone else on the road, and the speed limit doesn't apply to you, what the hell does it matter about anyone else using the road. as for me aggravating other drivers that are speeding.....double standard there. they can aggravate me with their careless driving, but i can't do what is right for me, and my conscience incase i aggravate them. that's cockeyed.

people can think i'm wrong all they want. but i will continue to be a safe driver, and do what i need to do when it is safe, and reasonable to do so.

when all the speeders kill someone they can justify taking that life all they like. in the mean time they can convince themselves it will never happen to them because they are so amazing. they can also pass the book onto the other drivers doing the actual right thing.

if a person is doing the limit, then they are impeding no-one except someone breaking the law for their own selfish gains. it is not my job to guess what speed someone behind me is doing if i need to break, it is that person's responsibility to make sure they don't put me at risk by driving too close, too fast. just as it is mine to give the person in front plenty of space, and adjust my speed accordingly.

i don't need to justify myself anymore, and nore will i any further on this subject. if anyone else want to pick, and poke at what i've said, then do it in cmail on the other side. i said my pet peeve, i shouldn't have had to defend myself in this thread.

Mums who believe that suddenly they deserve the red carpet for having a kid in their arm.... For example there were times at a previously regularly used airline where parents with kids up to 8 or 12 could board first as well as people with disabilities....no issue with that....but when then the mum believes she can jump the queue at the passport check at the destination country (her kid sleeping peacefully) due to being a mum....well...she had luck she wasn't in my queue...I have nothing against it if someone asks politely....but taking it for granted for no real reason...doesnt go well with me...

Folks who have the habbit of always letting others hear how oh so much harder they surely had it....like a previous colleague who always came up with it how hard this and that and that was for her due to her 4 kids....ahem....no disrespect, but most of us have our fair share on life and I am not in competition mode

People who think they need to park in the middle of 2 parking spots....when I moved to Bavaria I started to tell mum "Mum...in this county they obviously learned parking differently then in ours...here it seems to be the law to park in the middle of the line instead of between the two lines"

Dog owners who believe they have to force their dog onto others....as they aren't in control of their dogs....well....those situations remind me about the saying that the idjit is on the other end of the line than the dog....

Yeah, that's a real big pet peeve. I have this irrational idea that since I'm an intelligent, educated man who live in a (theoretically) free country, I should be able to decide what is and isn't good for me.
Not some sanctimonious asswipe who is arrogant enough to think they can do a better job of running my life than I can.
Yeah, I find that so fucking insulting

Idiots like the one this morning that grabbed BOTH of the luggage carts/trolleys to evacuate their luggage, after a single night stay - said luggage was a friggin MOUNTAIN, including a stroller, a car seat and a pack&play. 2 LARGE coolers (tipped on end, so pretty safe to say they were EMPTY), and other stuff.

FFS, you stayed ONE FRIGGIN NIGHT!! WHY did you need the stroller and car seat in your room? If they had stayed for breakfast, I *might* have understood the carseat (in lieu of a highchair, which incidentally, we DO provide).

Needless to say, a few minutes later, another guest came down looking for a cart...

(note, I only notced the dude taking both as he was shoving one into the elevator as he dragged the other behind him as I was watching the security cameras...)

ANOTHER related one: PEOPLE WHO KEEP THE DAMNED CART IN THEIR ROOM for their entire stay!! WTF? Do you really think that YOU are the ONLY FUCKING GUEST that could POSSIBLY need the cart????

fucking wanktards.
