Who the fuck is Master Dinnardin? You know what... it doesn't matter. He has the right to be as offended as he chooses to be. If Master Dinnardin wants to give people that kind of power over his thoughts, his emotions, and his life, that's his lookout.

Personally, I don't find the practice at all offensive. I think it's weird and kind of idiotic based on the fact that I don't believe in an immortal soul, but it's actually kind of a sweet sentiment. And you know what? That's my right to believe, so if that upsets Master Dinnardin, then he can cry about it all he likes.

lol... you stated fargle was the only one. Just pointing out another that I know about.. since I live with him and all.

LOL.. really not enough to get your panties in a wad about. And of course you wouldnt find it offensive. You have no stake in this issue at all.

Errrr, small problem here. Jews don't believe in Heaven...or in Hell.
That's Christian stuff

Master Dinnardin is Jewish... he cant even discuss this without getting upset. To say he finds it offensive is... umm... putting it mildly.

I'm an atheist and I find this offensive as well. It's forcible conversion in the belief of the people doing it. So I find it just as repugnant as any other forcing of religion upon the unwilling.

Grins. My (Non-Mormon Unitarian with heavy duty Buddhist leanings) Mama lives in Utah and she even has it in her will-no post death conversions.
No shit.

Edited to add-Nah Tazzy, I was aiming at Sadistdave, not you.
But, on the bright side, ya gotta admit, that first sentence is kinda rhythmic, it's got a funky beat and you can dance to it

tazzygirl -> RE: Wearing a Romney T shirt is like being in the KKK (10/7/2012 9:52:04 PM)

Sad when that has to go in the will.

I'm pretty sure I didn't state that farglebargle was the only one. I stated my comments were in response to him, but that's no big deal...

ROLF, I wasn't getting my panties in a wad. Have you ever seen Citizen Kane? You have to watch the whole movie to find out that Rosebud is a sled... I don't immediately recall ever seeing a reference to anyone named Dinnardin here, and I really didn't want to have a conversation about him and find out he's a housecat.

Whether political jazz is allowed at the school or not doesn't matter. The comments are wacky. I don't agree with Romney, but I wouldn't say he was remotely like the KKK unless he burned crosses and lynched black people.

I mean, being part of the KKK was pretty specific.

His religion has some pretty wacky ideas in regards to race.

Yep. Their views that native Americans are all evil for one.

Sad when that has to go in the will.

She's seen to many post death Mormon conversions.
And yeah, they've had real problems (Rightly so) with the Jewish about this.
But, brightens up, when she really gets me going I always tease her, threaten to wait til she dies, go Mormon and then posthumously convert her so I can get into the Inner Temple.
That's about her biggest fear right there. Leaves her trembling :-)

LOL

He sticks mostly with the gorean board....

as far as the housecats... lol... they get treated better than I do. But he is definitely not one of them.

Its all good!

tazzygirl -> RE: Wearing a Romney T shirt is like being in the KKK (10/7/2012 9:58:19 PM)

Oh so mean! Careful she may write you out of that same will... lol

Kana -> RE: Wearing a Romney T shirt is like being in the KKK (10/7/2012 10:02:59 PM)

Ohhh, I've done much worse back in the day.

No shit here.
A few years back I brought a buddy out there to go skiing. He had heard of Mormons, but knew nothing about the religion. When we first started telling him about the tenets of Mormonism, he just wouldn't believe it. For at least half an hour he thought we were pulling his leg, playing a joke on him. I had to Wiki it before he began to believe, and even then, he was flabbergasted.
Just shaking his head stunned that folks would follow it.
And that was BEFORE he found out you had to convert your ancestors to get into the inner temple.
We talk about it every once in a while, he still thinks it's hysterical

First of all, I'm not trying to pick a fight with you. I'm really trying to understand why you would find this offensive.

If you don't believe in an afterlife or a soul then baptizing someone into a different faith after they die is an absolutely meaningless act. When it gets down to brass tacks, as an atheist you are fully aware that this is nothing more than someone deciding that his imaginary friend is so superior to someone else's imaginary friend that they pretend that they can give them eternal bliss (or damnation I suppose) when they are no more than rotting meat. It's a childish game.

The act is of no more consequence to someone who doesn't believe in a soul or an afterlife than baptizing a banana, or forgiving a roll of toilet paper for it's sins before you wipe your ass. I would understand ridiculing it for it's obviously childish qualities. I would understand thinking it's funny in a demented sort of way. As I said, I think it's a nice idea in a naive sort of way. But offensive? Really?

In fairness, I should mention that one on one, the Mormons I've met are about as nice as people can be. They don't drink, smoke, cuss, steal. Hell, they don't even drink caffeine. It's no coincidence that Utah has the highest education rates, are among the lowest crime rates, are one of the few states that doesn't have a deficit. They dress nice, are uber clean cut, and their kids are about as polite as can be-pretty much what most parents wish their kids were like.
Utah is one of the rare places you can leave your door unlocked for weeks at a time with no fear. You don't even have to lock your valuables. Drop your wallet and odds are someone is gonna look around forever to try and get it back to you, money and credit cards untouched.
But maaaaaaaaaaaan, they believe some whacky stuff

because youre an idiot?

listen, they arent saying 'go on to your jewish heaven' they are saying 'you MUST now go to my MORMON heaven and are never ever allowed into the heaven you want to go to'

does that seem fair? if i tell you 'well i know you saved up all your money for that new tesla car but i traded it in for a bike'

So, you think I'm an idiot, but your argument is that Yahweh is really just a big pussy sort of deity, who can't protect the souls of dead Jews from being kidnapped and forced into Mormon Heaven.

Well, that's an interesting argument, but probably not a very effective one. I certainly wouldn't call it a smart argument if you're trying to be "pro-Jew", and I certainly don't think it's the sort of argument an actual thinking person might use if they're trying to be taken seriously...

I care about the intent. The intention is to forcibly convert someone. That they do it to corpses means to me they'd like to be doing it to the living. I find that just as offensive as all other forced conversions and forced worshipping.

I had to laugh so hard at you statement, but let the chips fall where they may !!!!!!!

Now, the fact that Fargle (one person) finds it offensive, is an indicator to some that they may want to refrain but, if we allowed one person to speak for all then NONE of the lefties on this board would be able to speak against Christianity because I find it offensive and I have just appointed myself the spokesman of the Christians. Does that work for everyone? Hardly.

Well, Michael, you raise a very interesting issue. Perhaps it deserves some exploration.

I am Italian-American. If I tell you that my ethnics are deeply offended by the word 'guinea' would you then say the same for me as you do for Fargle. I am just one person and just because I say it is offensive does not mean it is offensive to all Italian-Americans. So, okay then. What is your follow-up activity? Do you then go about testing your proposition by calling each and every IA you meet a guinea to see if they are offended?

And suppose an Afro-American tells you he finds the word 'nigger' offensive do you say he does not speak for all and then feel free to test out who is and who is not offended?

Now Fargle tells you Jews are offended by forced conversion of Holocaust victims by Mormons. Is that JUST an "indicator to some that they might want to refrain?"

Michael. Where is the line drawn? Or is there no line to be drawn? Notice that I typed out the N word above and it was censored by the CM pc-Bot. However, guinea was not.

Vincent
