quote:

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia Rep. Paul Broun said in videotaped remarks that evolution, embryology and the Big Bang theory are "lies straight from the pit of hell."

The Republican lawmaker made those comments during a speech Sept. 27 at a sportsman's banquet at Liberty Baptist Church in Hartwell. Broun, a medical doctor, is running for re-election in November unopposed by Democrats.

During the remarks, Broun said that he believes the Earth is about 9,000 years old and that it was made in six days. Those beliefs are held by fundamentalist Christians who believe the creation accounts in the Bible are literally true.

Broun spokeswoman Meredith Griffanti told the Athens Banner-Herald (http://bit.ly/Us4O0Z ) that Broun was recorded speaking to a church group about his religious beliefs. He sits on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.

Words fail me on this one. And he sits on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.

He's unopposed. Gotta be a red bastion.

Noting that this guy is a medical doctor makes me wonder anew at the praise for the intellectual capacity of MDs touted on the Anti-Intellectuals thread.

Do they reserve that committee for the stupidest ones?

His belief

He also says the earth is 9000 years old in that speech.

He really should be on the House Intelligence Committee with Michelle Bachmann.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Congressman Calls Evolution Lie From 'Pit of Hell' (10/6/2012 12:47:55 PM)

He's apparently a teabagger too according to Wiki

TheHeretic -> RE: Congressman Calls Evolution Lie From 'Pit of Hell' (10/6/2012 12:55:08 PM)

Is his district right next to Hank Johnson's, by any chance? They might want to do some water testing, if it is.

Does he sit next to Todd Adkin ?

Anyone else noticing the irony than some of those on the House Committee for Science, Space and Technology being on another planet already ?

Well, yanno. Some religious cults believe when you die you become a god on another planet with all your wives. Just sayin[8|]

Me too... but I'll try.

This is truly frightening. I'm usually a guy who doesn't like to bash but I just might add this numbskull to my list of exceptions. He needs to be openly, viciously mocked until he is hounded from office.

Here is a clip of his comments.

I'd like to add that I am pro hunting... but even I find that wall to be in extremely poor taste.

It is quite something! Maybe each guest brought a trophy?

Pretty sure all the RR GOP office holders would agree with him if they were to honestly answer the question. All the major RR organizations have a young earth as a tenet. It is taught as scientific fact at Liberty U, Bob Jones U and Regent U

You'll note that I commented that there are flaws in the system which certifies MDs. This is an example of one of those flaws.

Incidentally, the problem exists here, as well. About a quarter of the first year med students said they were creationists.

Not that this necessarily means they can't do the job, but I'm inclined to think it means they shouldn't.

yeah..these people are scary, and whats even more scary is that people actually vote for them, here in ohio, State Rep. Lynn Wachtmann, chairman of the House Health and Aging Committee, bans physician assistants from inserting or removing intrauterine devices, or IUDs, a common form of birth control. Currently, they are allowed to do so."I'm pro-life and I don't want to encourage any medical professionals including PAs to be able to do that," the Napoleon Republican said after the vote.

I'll go with the God part, but my ex wives are staying here.

rockspider -> RE: Congressman Calls Evolution Lie From 'Pit of Hell' (10/6/2012 6:02:56 PM)

Just another example of how little intelligence it takes to become a politician. But USA seem to have a great tradition for this as, I remember their president back in the thirties suggested to close the patent office, as everything worthwhile inventing had already been done.

Don’t think I am hacking on USA here as we have our nice collection of idiots in various parliaments here in Europe, but at least we seem to be spared for the religious zealots.

What's his problem with Sheldon, Leonard and Howard then?
