Since February, we've had myriad threads and posts about the shooting of Trayvon Martin, with some of our regulars seeming to post almost nonstop about every last detail of the case. I can't recall another incident that's sparked such intense discussion.

I'm honestly puzzled about why this topic has so consumed folks. Anyone have any thoughts about it?

Different mindsets: some posters lack reason and those that do respond to their foolishness, but their reasonable arguments cannot penetrate the thick skulls of them without reason.

DomYngBlk is wrong in most cases. There are people who assume Martin was an "animal" simply because he was black. Others assume Zimmerman to be a racist killer just because he is white. Both are wrong.
Others find the issues of self defense compeling.
Yet another group feels that self defence leads to a "wild west" mentality.
All of this meets in one case.

This case just isn't about race at all.

Awful prejudiced of you to come to that conclusion. (And an absolutely untrue one).

Absolutely irrelevant. It was not race that drew my attention to this case, so you can drop the race card now.

I say that Martin was a savage, an animal, because he attacked concerned citizen Zimmerman.

If you want to avoid looking like a racist avoid terms like animal.

And 'savage'.  There is no question about him being born in Kenya is there?

Where is any indication of race in my definition of what an animal is?

Martin was born in the US that makes him a citizen as well...and no body witness the so called attack, there is no evidence Martin even laid a finger on Zimmerman, just Zimmerman word, and he is a proven liar.
