Those are examples of not hating the criminal... it has nothing to do with the crime. Or are you saying you would ignore someone, when you were a cop, who was smoking pot in front of you? Or ignore a reckless speeder regardless of the reason?

Did I say that? I guess in Liberalland I said that, and that I endorsed a load of shit being dumped in front of every DNC office... But since I live in the real world, please show me where I said either of those things.

You really should just stay out of other people's conversations, Bill is doing a good enough job at making himself look like an ass, he doesn't need your help.

Those werent statements, those were questions.

Why dont you try answering them.... oh yeah.... because it makes your argument even more embarrassing.

n 1986, back when I was a republican, I had an absolute issue with anyone that wanted to burn a flag. I still have an issue with that person's choice but I defend their right to burn that flag.

I wrestle with that one. Intellectually, I get why the Supreme Court ruled as it did, but emotionally I really dislike it.

And I honestly do wonder how one delineates exactly when speech becomes conduct.

On a political note, I think flag-burning is a truly bone-headed form of protest because it totally eclipses whatever issue one was hoping to raise.

Free speech is a magnificent thing, even if you really have to hold your nose sometimes. [8D]

Spectacularly well said :)

A cop who approves of vandalism. Tell me rob, would you feel the same way if someone dumped a load of pig shit in your drive way? It's free speech.

The only thing it will do is cost the building owner/landlord money to have it removed.

Free speech is all wonderful until it turns into vandalism.

Or until you poke someone's eye out.

THAT's when it gets ugly!

I wasn't going to comment on this thread because it's pretty shitty but, at this point, I feel I almost have to.
The Alabama Freedom Riders broke laws, too.

Sometimes, civil disobedience is how a point is made and maybe even should be made.

Yes, the person that did this, if they're caught, should get a slap on the wrist but let's not start warming up Ol' Sparky just yet.

This was a stupid gag and they are HIDING what some ignorant peop;e are celecrating as free speech.
Tell me, what do you think of the Occupy Movement?

I have to say up front that I find your relating this childish act of vandalism to the "Freedom Riders". They stood their ground.

Nobody's calling this a hate crime, so why blow the acts of a simpleton and the cheerleaders who follow out of proportion by elevating it?

Burning a flag is also vandlism but is protected as free speach. BTW I don't approve of that or of this form of exersizing that right.

Wouldn't it depend on who the flag belonged to?
If I buy a flag and then destroy it, it would be hard to call it vandalism. Desecration, yes, but vandalism, I don't think so. Now, if I burn yours, yes that is absolutely vandalism.
There is also the absolutist argument that burning the flag is wrong.
In the codes, the ONLY proper way of disposing of a worn flag is.............wait for it.......
burning.

I see rob is still twisting in the wind regarding his selectivity as to which criminals he likes and which ones he doesn't.

Democrat criminals, round em up
Republican criminals, wink and laugh at em.

I guess in your world crimes commit themselves, and don't need criminals to commit them [8|]

If someone was stupid enough to smoke a joint in front of me, yep, I'd arrest them and bring them to jail for being stupid. No I don't ignore reckless speeding, I pull them over. You do know there's a difference between speeding and reckless driving, right?

tazzygirl -> RE: Someone thinks the DNC is full of shit. (10/10/2012 11:58:49 PM)

No, in my world I can separate the two... the criminal from the crime. I dont stop caring for someone I cared about before simply because the committed one.

And that is the crux of this issue. Those women you spoke about before, if they had committed a criminal act before you, and you knew the reasons behind the acts, knew them personally, even cared deeply for them, would you be able to turn a blind eye? Would you stop caring for them simply because they did something stupid?

My point being.... to your previous argument about someone you knew having smoked because of glaucoma or sped because of an asthma attack... I dont have to stop liking someone because I didnt like what they did.

You found humor in the dumping of manure outside the building.

The Business owner, someone you insist the GOP is all for helping and wanting to support, had to pay the expense of cleaning it up.

Does it sound quite so funny now?

It sounds like babbling incoherence to me... First you bring up a straw argument, then you blame me for condoning the act in the OP, then you seem to take umbrage that I found the act humorous.

Perhaps the owner of the building could ask President Obama for some stimulus money... This is a shovel ready job if I ever saw one.[sm=iwin.gif]

mnottertail -> RE: Someone thinks the DNC is full of shit. (10/11/2012 7:33:44 AM)

Its a hate crime, should be investigated and prosecuted by our FBI.

Perhaps conservatives can grow up and stop costing businesses money that you swear they dont have.

Prove it was a republican who dumped the shit, Carnak.

mnottertail -> RE: Someone thinks the DNC is full of shit. (10/11/2012 1:15:18 PM)

Again, it isn't a matter of that.  It is a matter of a federal hate crime that should be investigated and prosecuted by the FBI, and the offenders shot for treason.

Free fertilizer for the DNC there. It's their way too. Someone else paid for it[8D]

Did you think the Scopes Trial turned out badly by any chance?

Burning your own flag, protected free speech.
Burning someone Else's flag, vandalism.

Perhaps these idiots should dump their feces on their own porch so they can enjoy unfettered freedom of speech and not be deemed common criminals.

Well spotted and pretty much what I was thinking, when I wrote the post.

In 1986, back when I was a republican, I had an absolute issue with anyone that wanted to burn a flag. I still have an issue with that person's choice but I defend their right to burn that flag.

Where? When? Have you actually ever done that?
Never mind. That's two that don't understand the differences in this matter between protected speech and common vandalism.
