as for Armstrong? The man cheated in a sport where apparently cheating was an accepted thing...... If he loses his medals , i think everyone should lose them... as it should be. The fact that the nations teams had to know about the doping makes everyone involved culpable - not just the atheletes alone.
Do you remember the outcry when it was revealed by a young Russian gymnast and member of the Russian team in 1994, that she and the whole team had been forcibly impregnated prior to the games to raise their levels of male hormones. Ten weeks later they were given abortions. These girls were winning gold after gold.
Nobody was ever brought to task over that. Russia kept its gold medals.
I think the sad thing about cycling as a professional sport and 'the tour' is cycled by professional cyclists, is its all about the money. The big guys promoting their products through deal sponsorships are putting huge pressure on these guys.
The reason the headlines are on him is because he took the gold but like you say, he had an entire team behind him. Every one of his team made huge money from those wins. They are all millionaires and they are all as guilty as Armstrong. His sponsors and his caravan all would of known and probably encouraged the entire team to dope. Sponsors want some kind of assurance before putting their advertising on someones name. The whole thing is corrupt and I'm sure it continues to be corrupt.
The Tour de France is only one of many races and only famous because of its vast amount of advertizing.
