Collarme.com has been a completely free site for over 10 years and is the world's largest free BDSM dating site. In order to continue the site's free status and developing new features in all of the various areas of the site, we have had to increase our advertising in order to defray costs. The pop-under ad will only appear once per 24 hours and can easily be closed. We hope that you understand and will continue to support us.

Edited to add: And no, the staff are STILL volunteers

I totally agree and as mentioned, was actually one of the ones years ago first suggesting the concept, wondering why someone was benevolent enough to provide this site for us for free.

I just think this particular advertising approach is cheesy. After all is said, I think this is a great site and I don't have to pay to be here and I'm still very thankful.

I accept that this is a free site, and it costs a fair amount to run. The operators gotta do what the operators gotta do.

However easily closed the pop up, it's still something that I personally find intrusive enough to be a problem.

I've seen some good thoughts here, and some rather special people, whose words have been worth reading.

But in answer to the Op's

I'm sure it won't send anyone away....

I'm out. Be well, one and all.

Yeah, the sound creeped me out. When I still had a child at home I almost always had to turn the sound off on my computer. Those were not just annoying but having a child in the house it was a little dangerous. I still keep my sound off most days just because I find most noises, not just on a computer, to be annoying and gives me a headache.

Last night we had the sound on though because we were also watching youtube 80's vids.

I am not amused. I sincerely hope that the site will find another source of revenue. And though I am dirt poor at the moment, I am willing to contribute five euro's for not having to experience the bother.

How about combining the three? Add a lottery or roulette wheel to the site. Anyone contributing five euro's max per year to the site gets five one euro opportunities at the roulette wheel at the moment he or she desires. Pay-up and pay-out maybe in bitcoins if someone wants to remain anonymous. Twenty percent goes to the winners. The rest goes to the site and to tax.

Kana here
Dooood, that just happened to me and it freaked me the fuck out. I was on the Mouses computer and was like, "WTF sort of sites have you been looking at?"

MP had the same reaction when he saw the thing come up. I should have messed with him and made him think it was male on male porn.

I'm okay with the existence of these popups, but they're a bitch on my netbook because they popunder, then flood the screen, and make it a PITA to get rid of them.

Does anyone find the log in times have become much slower in the wake of the pop-up?

Some chic just popped up with something in her nose. I'm guessing it was some kind of nose ring and....with her being nekkid and all, I'm also guessing it was supposed to be sexy.

The fact that bandwidth in all currencies is precious, made her nose ring (I'm confident that's what it was) look like she had a booger hanging on the outside of her nose. A big honking fat booger....hanging....on her nose....

I wanted to flick it for her but...I haven't put Tron on my laptop yet.

I'm sorry...I refuse to net fuck her....with a net booger.

(I hope she net forgives me).

I don't log out, so I wouldn't know.

What I do know, is that forgetting to turn the volume on the stereo down from ≥90dB will cause the neighbours to wonder when that ad pops up. I wasn't best pleased.

Is there any chance that some of that money will be used to buy a license to an up-to-date version of forum software or a better package entirely?

I heard that CollarMe makes something like 800k+ a year on the Ads that are on the normal pages. How are POP UPS needed to "Continue the site's free status and developing new features"? I've been on here for meh. A year or so now and I haven't noticed any new features.

If the staff are volunteers and don't get payed and this site has been up for idk 10+ years why is there a need for pop ups NOW? Better question. If you need all of this money to keep the site running why do people STILL get locked out of their profiles, and why are there so many scammers when it's not hard to ban their IP addresses?
The "Largest free BDSM Community site" it may be, but what about Fetlife? Less members, yes. But also a less scammer/fake to real member ratio as well as the LACK of Pop Ups and ads with sound.

These questions aside --- the fact that ANY of the advertisements have sound is COMPLETELY wrong, disrespectful, crude, uncalled for, and frankly disgusting on the part of CM. They should NOT have sound. Idgaf if it's once every 24 hours, once every 24 seconds or once every 24 years. It it NOT acceptable, and it's just CM trying to get more money from the advertisements.

Great. Now that you're making more money GET RID OF THE SCAMMERS!!!

WHO picks out the clips that are intruding on my internet viewing? I'd guess a plant from some competing fetish web site if the quality stays what I've been seeing. Maybe I'm not the desperate porn chasing 30 yr old virgin that tests say is the typical user here? Just now was some sad girl with a water hose. Can't afford a real dildo?? Careful, child, you can Hurt yourself with that!
Is this the new 'fresh'? Porn from the Walmart Nation?

i don't really mind these pop-under ads. i do wonder though that as i have pop-ups blocked on my comp how do they get past that?

i watch porn on occassion, and the sites i use are free, but they also have these pop-unders. it's easy to shut them down as they open. it only takes a second. yes it swallows my very limited d/l, however, if you stay logged in then it doesn't happen.

when a site quotes member numbers at you just remember this; anyone can join a site for any reason. lots of the so called members will have been created by programs, no matter how good the site sets up registration. i know this because i also own a forum. at present it is sat doing nothing, and i very much doubt that anyone would find it by accident on the net as i have not promoted it. the only real way to get to it is through a couple of other sites that i own. it is only there at the mo to save me having to add it to hundreds of pages later. these other sites have been running since the new year, they are very target specific, one very personal, one not complete or advertised to be found easily. still, the forum currently has to todays checking 151 members. over the months i have gone in and deleted hundreds more of similar members. they have nothing to do with my target audiance, would probably have not had any reason to be on the other sites at all, have had to go through re-captcha, and verified their email.

so imagine how many of those a site like this gets. i'm sure the people that work for the site arn't going through each membership to check if it's legit or not. i guess it makes figures look good for potentials looking at the site though.

I got occasional messages from my anti-malware software that one of these is/(was at least last week) virus-infected - I don't mind ads but I really mind trojans ...

IWYW,

Indeed, and judging by the hours you keep I now firmly believe you have invented an electronic trigger to wake you up whenever someone posts on the forum!

The pop-up has definitely made log-in and out times (if one only logged into Collarchat so exiting via the main site) extremely slow though!

No need for an electronic trigger. I'm on little sleep these days, so the browser does most of the work for me.

Definitely irregular hours, though.
