Has anyone else gotten the ad for some camsite that loads a weird secondary scroll bar, and then crashes your browser?
Yeah... that's really annoying, collarme.

http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=4266028 If you are experiencing problems however, please write Support so they can find out browser, OS etc since you are the first to complain about crashing. The site wants to make sure and catch any tech problems right away, should there be any.

I did just exactly that - sent a note to "support". They basically said Too bad, it's how we make money:

"Thank you for contacting us about your concern over the recent pop-under campaign we have begun running. Collarme.com has been a completely free site for over 10 years and is the world's largest free BDSM dating site. In order to continue the site's free status and developing new features, we have had to increase our advertising in order to defray costs. The pop-under ad will only appear once per 24 hours and can easily be closed. We hope that you understand and will continue to support us."

The ad crashed my browser on 2 different computers.

From Alpha:

My apologies, you said your pc locked, and I thought then you were able to go on. I am actually the one that is monitoring supports on this( Im all over the site). You are actually the only one, ( I promise) that even used the word locking. I wil write you from support and have some other questions to ask based on what you wrote here. I never meant for you to think Too Bad. As an aside, the purpose is not to make money but to be able to keep the site free for you, but I will write you from there.

I'm using Google Chrome and it froze my CM tab as well. Soon as I closed the ad, I was able to re-load the webpage.

I'm using Google Chrome, too. I had to use Task Manager to shut the stupid ad down.

Similar problem but I'm using IE8. The advert would pop up, and the webpage would cease responding. An error message would appear saying the page isn't responding!

I started a thread when they first started doing whatever they are doing, there is alot of shit broken on collarme.   Pages timing out, long cycle waits between transition pages (ie after posting, and in mail), and often not responding at all,  or even getting on cm or cc.  Much funkiness.  Hope they get it straightened out.  One of the things that is very irritating is you cant post so fast screen and the go back doesnt save your text, so if you write a long one, it wipes it.   That used to be fixed, but the entire idea of how they throttle the posting is inept, I understand what they are trying to avoid, but they do it in a clumsy way, and now it is exacerbated.

It is a free site to the users, someone has to pay for it. If all you have to do with your life is bitch about the ads on a FREE SITE, I feel for you, but my arm isn't long enough to reach you. This is why I hardly come to the forums a bunch of people complaining about something. GET THE HELL OVER IT.

wow..I've never had that happen! I just get annoyed that it sometimes seems like the timer is arbitrary in how long it makes you wait before it alllows the post (of course, my sense of time is fucked up, so I could be wrong).

Oh wow! We's all just been bitchslapped!

MistressL2you - no one is saying they SHOULDN'T have ads, but they certainly should pick ads that don't disrupt the functionality of their site. Otherwise, what's the point? If an ad causes your browser to crash when you visit a site, will you visit that site anymore? No.
So they're shooting themselves in the foot with these terrible ads.

Seriously, get off your goony little high horse. It looks ridiculous.

mnottertail - I noticed that today. I don't like the "throttling of posts" as you've called it, either. And it is done really clumsily. And it used to save your post so you could copy and paste and try again later; now it just obliterates it.

Yeah, that one is one of the first to go when they do some bigger site programming.  Some of us are fast typers, and have alot to say, seems to me that if they want to blow posting bots out of the water. they could say....bundle 5 posts and if you hit the inside the timer limit throw up the fuzzy text screen that they use for passwords, and then let you upon success post without going back...........a little more elegant.  If you fail the fuzzy text three times or something, they could shut down your posting for some time or something......

Don't go back, just hit Ctrl-R repeatedly until your message posts.

We're not complaining about advertising. We're complaining about ONE ad. That ad is a pop up WITH SOUND that is causing problems with our computers.

Having porn sounds randomly pop up on computer is a HUGE issue to me.

I have Chrome too. Download AdBlock Plus. It's a free extension that works with Chrome and Firefox. I use it and it's fabulous. I see maybe two of CM's stupid little ads now and none of them have sound or moving graphics. After you install it, clear your cache and cookies and you shouldn't see the ad anymore. If you do, right click on it to add it to your filters. You can do this for any of the ad banners currently on the site and any that slip through in the future.

Easy peasy.

Okay...I'm not complaining. I just find it humorous to see someone here complaining about people coming here to complain, then telling THEM to get the hell over it!

No problems here. We just both find it annoying but I have my popups blocked and haven't had anymore yet thankfully. If so then I'll just make some settings changes and it won't ever be seen again.

Master has ad block on his computer so as far as I know he hasn't seen any on his computer.

The only problems I do have though is the timing out. Sometimes it times out before it will post or it just seems to take forever for the post to go through. Oh and I hatehatehate that you can't make two consecutive posts in a row. I find that really just very stupid. This is the only forum I've ever been to that has that. It makes no sense to have.
