Not all butting of heads is down to negative attitude, but in the main, most newbies who get a negative reaction, that *I* have seen, that is the main reason. Heck I've butted heads with more than a few here, mostly once the issue of strong disagreement is past then its left there and we are back to getting on just like normal [:D]

Agreed [:)]

Not to mention making it awkward for him to kiss his girl when he wants to, having to wait for her to stand up or doing his back in by bending so far.... its bad enough with a short girl, let alone with one on her knees [:D]

Ah but dontcha know, he just yanks me up by the hair for that.  Heh.

My girl would be less able to make me happy if she spent less time online.... given we don't live together. We see each other a few times a week but the net is a lot cheeper and more convenient to be in contact when we are both 'at home' than the damn phone.

There is a program Master & I use:  "iVisit."  For $50/year you get voice and video together (compatible with Mac to PC, also).  I'm not sure I can review products on message threads, so email me if interested in hearing more.  Because of our distance, I am only able to see him a few times a month, and this product has been a benefit.

I got slammed one of  my very first threads.  It was "The death of a Master thread" when I stated what I learned to be an unpopular opinion. I do not believe my attitude was negative in it at all.   I almost didn't come back....but then I'm stubborn.

Oh wow, was that one of your first?  You did get raked over pretty well for that.

And I thought the "online" comment was a very typical "I don't actually have any justifiable points to say against you so I'll bring up this distracting irrelevant emotional button to push isntead" and you handled it very well.

Eventually we're all going to come against someone who says "You suck!" sometimes intelligently and osmetimes not.  I think how posters react to that, more than the questions they ask or advice they give, really shows their character.

Sometimes people do get overly rowdy and irrational.  But it's still nothing compared to the politics and drama of the offline world.  If people can't handle being told "You suck!" by a cyber forum poster with grace, then it really is better that they leave and wait until they can handle it.

I know some people think my tactics are too harsh, too arrogant.  But I also know for every post I give, there's something else giving a hand holding "It's ok to call him a bad dom because you asked to be flogged and then afterwards decided he flogged you too much even though you didn't tell him at the time because of your own insecurities."

We all add to the pot and it tends to balance out.  The long termers at CM are actually very disagreeable on some of the key topics that come up here- we just know how to disagree respectfully and that it really doesn't give a damn when it comes to being happy in our own lives.  I really think the ones who stay are the ones who enjoy the process of the discussion and the "awakening" of the newbies more than anything.

I admittedly so spend a lot of time on here especially reading the forums. In my defence though i am learning new things from them every day. Also i lost my job and really do have nothing better to do.

LA was the very first person who answered my very first thread, so no, i was not ostrasized, or talked down to, or ignored, nor was anybody an 'intolerant git'.  Everyone has been very tolerant and patient with my threads and for that i am very grateful.

I doubt LA cares what you think of her.

Yup, me tooooooooo!  Since then, of course...I've been flammed now and then; but by and large I've enjoyed 'getting to know' people here.  Lordy, this place sure makes ya think, huh?

Mostly it is just chatting, or advice or explinations.... video isn't really needed and we always have the cam for that.... If I wanted voice then there is always SKIPE (Which is free) but with written messages we can have a conversation whilst we are wandering back and forth doing other things.

TNstepsout -> RE: Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 9:13:59 AM)

Participating on a forum is a lot like playing intellectual dodgeball. You can run off the court crying when you take one to the head and whine to the teacher that the other kids are being mean, or you can jump back in and learn to dodge and duck a bit better, and maybe score some points of your own.

or on the good side of the one He has entrusted the bat with * wink *

caitlyn -> RE: Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 9:39:27 AM)

Using me as a random example:
  • I've been a member here for 540 days and have made 775 posts.
  • You've been a member here for 17 days and have made 120 posts.
  • At your current rate of posting, by the time you reach 540 days as a member here, you will have made 3812 posts.

Now, who is it that doesn't have a life again? [;)][;)]

Just remember it is for patting him on the head with... for anything else remember to use plenty of lube .... Or chilli oil, dependent on desired effect [;)]

PlayfulOne -> RE: Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 9:48:51 AM)

Caitlyn,  you go girl

Raven,  lube or not,  wouldn't that depend on whether it is fun or punishment. I'm not sure he has earned lube

Have any of you noticed that there are a number of people who spend so much time here (and other forums) dishing out advice based on their wonderful offline experiences. They have 'wonderful' relationships - they say - but spend hours every day in a online forum. Not only do they respond to every thread, they can even reference every thread that even hinted at the topic.

They are experts on every topic raised, and even if they aren't, they will add a comment to say they have no valid input, but express an opinion anyway.

They have time to repeat their point over and over again in many posts, while others add to the discussion ignoring these poor soles.

You have to wonder if they really have a life.

Brosco

I don't read every thread so I can't know honestly if what you are saying is objective or not.

I do know that I check this site several times during the day during the weekdays -- evenings and weekends are for me, Tom and Fox as well as some friends so I don't have much time then.

I also know I'll get on, read a few threads, then get off again to go do something else -- dissertation, writing, research, housework, shopping, fun. I use this place as a sort of break from my daily routine.

Also since I use this site to slightly replace the meatlife community that broke down in my area, I am on here often. Part of why I'm out is because I desire a community feeling.

HisTicia -> RE: Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 10:14:01 AM)

So.. if I have this figured out..which I doubt.. but who knows.....

You are probably in an online thing..and feel that it's put down by ppl that are having so called "real life" ones.  Then you wonder how why if they are that satisfied.. why they are here so much talking..and not with that person.

If that's not correct..then forgive my error..but I will act as though it is.

I think that online things have gotten a really bad rap.  That's from the players and wannabe's out there.  I met my Sir online..and we have talked that way for quite a while..though thankfully we will be together very soon. (week and a half and counting)

I have seen real life ones that were just as much of a joke as some online ones.. I think it just boils down to the two ppl involved..and we all shouldn't judge each other so harshly.

We are all on here at different times for different reasons.. but even when I haven't agreed.. I have always enjoyed the debate..and sometimes learned a bit here and there.  This is the first msg board I have ever been involved in..and I really do enjoy it.  Yes, sometimes when you say something it might get slammed..but you learn to let it go..or you learn really good comebacks.. I prefer the good comeback part. There are really good ppl here..and once you get to know them.. even the ones you don't agree with.. you can still respect their opinions.

Welcome to the boards all the same.. maybe things will calm down for you a bit here soon.

I think the intellectual dodgeball is a great analogy. However, we also need to account for some players who seem to enjoy making targets of themselves. Kinda changes the game when intellectual masochists are playing, but it makes an amusing sideshow when the intellectual sadists are tossing the balls.

Have You Noticed...
that people that claim a REALLIFE existance...
spend a lot of TIME online...
to criticise those that have a happy ONLINE relationship?

What I have noticed is people who say they have wonderful rich, full relationships, who spend many hours online and then tell others to "get offline and go out and meet people". That is what I notice. When I had pup, I didnt have much time to come online, read and post on this forum or any other forums. My time was spent with him. I wonder how those who have such wonderful full relationships can have the time to come on here and post so much, but it is none of my business. I dont really care. But to answer your question, yes I have noticed.
