Brosco -> Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 12:43:27 AM)

Have any of you noticed that there are a number of people who spend so much time here (and other forums) dishing out advice based on their wonderful offline experiences.  They have 'wonderful' relationships - they say - but spend hours every day in a online forum.  Not only do they respond to every thread, they can even reference every thread that even hinted at the topic.

They are experts on every topic raised, and even if they aren't, they will add a comment to say they have no valid input, but express an opinion anyway.

They have time to repeat their point over and over again in many posts, while others add to the discussion ignoring these poor soles.

You have to wonder if they really have a life.

The only time i'm in an online forum, and this is the only forum i even participate in, is when i'm at work or school. I work at the front desk of the dorm i live in, so i don't have a lot to do so late at night/early in the morning.  I am at work right now, and wish i was asleep, like a 'normal' person. But i can't, so i pass the time posting my unneeded, and often unwanted, opinion.

About half of this could sound like me, I spend a couple hours any day I can here reading and sometimes post on a lot of topics, whether it's pointless or not depends who's reasing it I guess.

Is it bad that I don't feel shame or regret about this? [:-] lol

I think if you find them not useful, I'd say just ignore them.

On another note....As a lady mentioned to me during an online chat the other night ''What's with all the cagey people who've set their preferences to hide their on-line user-name from the list at the bottom of the screen? I guess I never really noticed how many where posting this way, but there seems to be quite a few.

litleone8620 -> RE: Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 1:50:40 AM)

During the week i'm here a lot, because i work and in classes. The weekend is a different story. I've been here only four days, so the fact that someone assumes i don't have a life just from 4 day's worth of posts doesn't know me at all.

There's not a lot to do during the week anyway.

meatcleaver -> RE: Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 1:56:53 AM)

I work for myself and have to sit in front of the computer for long periods and use CM as a distraction exercise which means I am sat in front of the computer for twice as long as I need to, which I hate. I need some self discipline because I hate computers but people seem to think nowadays you can't design anything if you haven't produced a design on the computer.

I also have a long distance relationship which is open but in reality I don't really use that openness to pursue any other relationship but use the time I'm alone to work (and distract myself). When I see Y my p/time partner I disappear from the computer altogether and indulge in the nice things in life such as taking advantage of her which she expects.[:D]

Actually. Lately I haven't much of a life. Working nights, out of touch, single. But! I have had quite a bit of a life and will perk up. So even if I am just coasting lately, I still have opinions ( worth gauged by the readers ). As to repetitiveness. Some things just have commonality. At least in a venue such as this, you can skim. Much better than being trapped in a room with a bore. I get much more of interest on these forums, than I get bored. Often it is more the question than the answers. I ask the question to myself and maybe get an answer to me, if not one to the asker.

And often I just yap more than I should. So you get to see how far my foot can go in my mouth. That's a bonus for you. You can write me off and skim past.

I agree with you, though that proabably doesn't have any merit. I also enjoy this forum because you get such a wide variety of topics, unlike a chat room.

And, it's not like posting on a forum is the only thing i'm doing. I am a multi-tasker, so while i'm working, i'm either doing homework, or research for a paper.

If i'm in class, i'll be taking notes.

What i have a problem with is people who start a thread, then doesn't respond to any of the answers.

Well thank goodness they don't have to answer to you or explain themselves to you....

Thank God some of them are here posting, I know I enjoy their posts, questions and information as I am sure others do...

Brosco -> RE: Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 2:49:24 AM)

wow... i got up to post #85 before it was bash the new guy - that must be somewhat of a record

Level -> RE: Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 2:58:00 AM)

I spend quite a bit of time here (although I haven't boasted as to having much else going on lol), and yes, there are some more productive ways of spending time. However, I don't write off the CM experience, because this place feeds my desire for good humor and intellectual stimulation. You have folks from all over the world talking about sex, politics, religion, race, gender, and so forth. Can't one get that in the real world where they're at? Sure, but speaking for myself, living where I do, it can be difficult to find.

I won't be here to this extent forever, though, I can say that.

A record? LOL, not hardly. And that wasn't "bashing".... although many will see your topic as such.

bandit25 -> RE: Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 3:08:56 AM)

oh, meatcleaver, I enjoy them too.  On the whole, they are quite informative and well thought out and written (BIG bonus points).  It's just that sometimes you sound too bitter.

I think you and most others missed my point.

I enjoy being in a forum such as this.  I enjoy exchanging ideas and opinions.  I have no right to even suggest how much time another should spend here.  We all have our own lives and own time.

Maybe I was too subtle - usually I am accused of having the subtly of a sledgehammer - but my point was very simple.. and I will spell it out..

Have you noticed that people with wonderful offline relationships spend an enormous amout of time online criticising those that are online?

bandit25 -> RE: Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 3:12:00 AM)

Um, nope, you weren't subtle at all.  I think we all understood what you were getting at.  Hey, maybe those people don't sleep.  Maybe their partners are online also.  We really don't know.  I spend a lot of time on here too.  But like mc, I am in front of a pc all day and use this as a diversion.  At night, if my Dom isn't here (and then you willl never see me on here), I read and usually have the site up...I forget I'm on here.

bandit25 -> RE: Who really is offline? (6/14/2006 3:13:33 AM)

Oh and Level...well, you know how much I enjoy your posts!
