http://gawker.com/5951977/leaked-debate-agreement-shows-both-obama-and-romney-are-sniveling-cowards

It's so stage-managed, there's no real point in watching, is there?

TheHeretic -> RE: Don't waste your time watching the 10/16 'debate'... (10/15/2012 8:24:03 PM)

I'm confuzzled, Fargle. Your link says the rules include a prohibition on showing non-speaker reactions, which has given us split screen shots for the first two, of four, debates. If nobody is paying attention to the rules from the MOU, wouldn't they just add spice to the debate drinking games?

Me? I double checked that the recorder is set. Must see TV. If the President bombs again, the First Lady should start redecorating the Chicago place now, so it will be ready for them in January.

I may well wind up making a decision based on this debate as well. They'll be covering the social issue stuff here, and there is a chance Romney could lose my vote to Johnson. (The luxury of living in an overwhelmingly Democrat state.)

farglebargle -> RE: Don't waste your time watching the 10/16 'debate'... (10/15/2012 8:27:02 PM)

I suspect Obama will simply adopt the "Biden Strategy". Every time Romeny lies, he'll be interrupted.

If Romney doesn't want to be interrupted, he simply has to stop telling lies.

You know, like the way he said he has no plans for any reproductive legislation, while trumpeting that in fact he has plenty of plans to restrict woman's healthcare access.

Obama's REAL problem is all the fucking racists, who the moment Obama shows any balls, will immediately declare him "uppity". Witness the "spear chucker" commentary recently.

Nah. That bloc of voters is already locked down. They didn't keep him out of office last time, did they?

It's the undecided voters, and those who are willing to take another look at their support for the President, that are in play. If he comes out like Chris Mathews on bath salts, I'm sure it will be a lot of fun for the rabid base, right up until they see the numbers afterward.

~FR

I just want to post this for after the debate....

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html

RCP Average 10/7 - 10/14 -- -- 47.4 47.3 Romney +0.1

TheHeretic -> RE: Don't waste your time watching the 10/16 'debate'... (10/15/2012 9:33:18 PM)

That won't be much good, for right after, Tazzy. Gallup and Rasmussen do rolling reports, but that's by updating the last three days worth of responses. I was thinking of the flash polls on who is perceived to have won by viewers.

tazzygirl -> RE: Don't waste your time watching the 10/16 'debate'... (10/15/2012 9:37:47 PM)

I dont worry about the flash polls, Rich. Im not into the "feel good" numbers. In actuality, polling doesnt thrill me at all because its such a small segment of the population. But,. thought I would post that just to see what changes do occur in, maybe, a week.

Are you aware of Johnson's stance on free-trade and immigration? He wants to get rid of barriers plus make it easier for legal immigrants to come here and take US jobs away from Americans.

This is a verbatim quote from his website:

"Eliminate needless barriers to free trade and make it easier for would-be legal immigrants to apply for work visas."

And you assume those positions would be some sort of dealbreaker for me, because...?

Sorry, but I've worked with way too many people who have struggled and sacrificed, and risked everything to come here, to latch onto the, "they took our jobs," mantra.

Don't you understand that actually allowing free trade helps everyone out? It increases competition and allows for a more efficient allocation of scarce resources.

And, are you going to tell me that Conservatives are against all immigration, even legal immigration? I don't think you understand Conservatives.

DBG, TheHeretic lives in California. He can vote any way he wants, and will not affect his state going for Obama.

...which creates unemployment, promotes wage enslavement, exploitation of workers and traps people in poverty.

The problem with free trade and competition is that there's always someone bigger than you with more money and more control and at the other end people left with nothing bar welfare.

The people in the middle, i.e. the middle class are always going to get squeezed.

Moonhead -> RE: Don't waste your time watching the 10/16 'debate'... (10/16/2012 12:26:47 PM)

I know that, Stella, and you know that.
But Ayn Rand said it was a lie, and there's a lot of people who think Atlas Shrugged is a handbook for empowerment rather than a "fuck you" to most of the human race who'd rather believe her than the evidence of what thirty or forty years of free trade has done to the global economy. If they weren't dragging every fucker else down with them, I'd be looking forwards to the idiots having to learn Chinese to get a job...

mnottertail -> RE: Don't waste your time watching the 10/16 'debate'... (10/16/2012 12:35:37 PM)

Well, there is no such thing as free trade.   And, after all, not every nation has read and understood Adam Smith, who I figure as holding the highest customs office in England at the time he wrote his book, considered it a masturbatory piece.  I certainly do.  As I do Ayn Rand and her industrial terrorism asswipe.

Moonhead -> RE: Don't waste your time watching the 10/16 'debate'... (10/16/2012 12:41:47 PM)

That was the thing that struck me as weird about all that blather about a plutocrat strike: if they're not paying taxes and their economic spending is trickling out of the country rather than down to the untermensch, who's going to give a fuck if they piss off to Lichtenstein or one of those stupid boats? John Galt had to start blowing shit up before anybody paid any attention to his mantrum, after all. (Which it appears most of the people who cite Atlas Shrugged as an authoritative source fail to notice...)

I know welfare works differently over there, but on this side of the pond it's mostly people who've spent their whole life since finishing school on the dole who spend all their time bitching about immigrants stealing their job.
If you really want to suck cock for a fiver a trick and give four quid of it to your pimp, mate, go for it. The Russian mollys all over London are unlikely to stop you...

How does it do any of those things?

mnottertail -> RE: Don't waste your time watching the 10/16 'debate'... (10/16/2012 1:32:06 PM)

Realistic arms lenght transactions, a sensible global trading policy, tarriffs and customs.  Make some trades illegal.
