marsman -> BDSM in nature (10/17/2012 1:35:34 PM)

BDSM is perhaps necessary for the survival of any given species, including human.

Isn't one of the most "sadistic" things a man can do to a woman is get her pregnant?

BDSM is rampant in the animal kingdom too.

Sex to a female lion is painful, but she will approach and mate with a male 100
times a day during mating season.

Whatever the funk you are talking about-that ain't BDSM

Rochsub2009 -> RE: BDSM in nature (10/17/2012 2:07:14 PM)

When I saw the title of this thread, I expected something far more interesting and well-researched than the silly Youtube videos that you provided. That doesn't qualify as BDSM. I feel cheated.

Ummmm, can you support that statement?

Not really. Just because something causes pain, that doesn't make it sadistic.

Show me one example. That video of lions mating doesn't come close to qualifying.

Can someone please salvage this thread so it's not a complete waste of time? There may be REAL examples in nature, but the OP certainly hasn't provided any.

Looks at the post.

Scratches her head and raises an eyebrow.

Looks at the Ops user name.

Whew!

Ok, let me start by talking about the sexual anatomy of house cats, which is very similar to lions.

Have you ever wondered why cats are so noisy when they mate?

Dogs never make such a racket when they get it on

But cats will wake up the neighbor hood when they mate.

Male cats have spines on their penises.

quote:

Wikipedia
Multiple males will be attracted to a female in heat. The males will fight over her, and the victor wins the right to mate. At first, the female will reject the male, but eventually the female will allow the male to mate. The female will utter a loud yowl as the male pulls out of her. This is because a male cat's penis has a band of about 120–150 backwards-pointing penile spines, which are about one millimeter long;[147] upon withdrawal of the penis, the spines rake the walls of the female's vagina, which is a trigger for ovulation.

Lions and most male cats have spines on their penises.

Female lions will approach a male and mate over and over again, painfully each time.

What do you call a creature who actively desires painful sex over and over again?

To me it sounds like a submissive and/or masochist.

But is it "desire"?
Nope, it's a driven instinct.

You might want to become more educated before making wild assumptions. Male cats have barbed penises because a female cat has to be manually stimulated in order to ovulate. Cats are induced ovulators. Therefore males have the required appendages on their genitalia to get the females to ovulate and get pregnant. We learned this in lab class dissections.

Cats yowling don't necessarily indicate pain, it's just what they do. Sometimes when a cat is in great pain such as birthing, they will purr- does that mean they're having fun and are content? I think you need to stop putting human traits onto animals, they're not always equal.

BurntKitty -> RE: BDSM in nature (10/17/2012 7:11:37 PM)

I agree. My cats also purr when nervous or scared. I know they don't like going to the v-e-t. (Zelda can spell. Dammit, I'm doomed.)

Ok, what do you call a creature who actively and instinctively has painful sex over and over again?

Still sounds like a submissive to me.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: BDSM in nature (10/17/2012 7:22:14 PM)

I admit it, you are cracking me the fuck up marsman.

Would you happen to have a Marsbar handy? I have the munchies for some reason. I think it's a submissive tendency.

JanahX -> RE: BDSM in nature (10/17/2012 7:23:17 PM)

Yes - I can see the logic in this. When I go on African Safaris, I look for the secret Lion BDSM Clubs in the bush. The Lions like to walk around in leather garb and put on shows. I dont enjoy the music they play during their scenes. The bongo drums just dont do it for me.

TallullahHk -> RE: BDSM in nature (10/17/2012 7:34:47 PM)

I make a racket when I have sex but it has nothing to do with barbed peni.

Nope. Sounds like procreation and survival of the species. Moreover, it's instinctive behavior.

IMO, an entity has to have cognizant reasoning and actively choose to engage in inflicting or enduring pain in order to qualify as a sadist or a masochist.

But to carry on your procreation example, if a man has a large penis, and some women say that it makes intercourse painful, does that make him a sadist? Does it make his partners masochists? I think not.

I'm not making wild assumptions, I'm listening to what I hear online.

Both videos say that copulation is painful to the female cats.

The National Geographic video starts with this quote, "For all species of the cat family, mating is painful."

The other video also says that sex is painful to the female.

quote:

Cats yowling don't necessarily indicate pain, it's just what they do. Sometimes when a cat is in great pain such as birthing, they will purr- does that mean they're having fun and are content? I think you need to stop putting human traits onto animals, they're not always equal.

Again whether or not there is pain is not my assessment, but the assessment of creators of the videos from my first post.

quote:

Wikipedia
...The female will utter a loud yowl as the male pulls out of her. This is because a male cat's penis has a band of about 120–150 backwards-pointing penile spines...

When I observe the videos , I see the female cats submissively lying on the ground in front of a male cat, let him penetrate and then towards the end, she gets "active" just before he pulls out.

One can say that this female "activity" is instinct, but one can also say that it is a pain response to the male pulling out.

BurntKitty -> RE: BDSM in nature (10/17/2012 7:53:36 PM)

OP hasn't seen or heard female cats in heat. They're howling & yowling before any male cat is around.

Brings a whole new meaning to "Lions Club"..

If I am not convincing, I hope I am at least entertaining.

TallullahHk -> RE: BDSM in nature (10/17/2012 8:08:24 PM)

except I didn't say that.
