Is there a place, either on these boards or elsewhere, to post negative experiences/warnings to protect other members of the community from phonies/liars/abusers, etc?

Greetings,

I'm going to give you a dandy piece of advice. No one listens to that stuff. Just think about it for a moment. Do you heed every warning given to you or is your attention dependent on the one delivering the doomsday claim? I'm staking my money on the latter. Oftentimes these warnings are ignored unless the intended party has already had a few incidents that have given them pause and caused them to doubt. In essence you're validating their suspicion rather than alerting them about some potential calamity.

Helpful hints aside there's always the question of the naysayers motives and what they hope to gain by encouraging you to step away. Outside of this there's the likelihood that you're not hearing the whole story but merely the portion they've elected to share. At the end of the day we should consider the source, exercise some common sense and choose wisely.

Actually, I do listen to it, but not in a good way. I know that the complainer got into a bad situation, and blamed it on another party. I also know that, were I to connect with him or her, there's a chance I'd find my name being spread about. I'd avoid a person like that.

Hmm I think 'negative' is subjective..what may not be for you may be ideal for another.
As for liars etc.. I've come to realize we can all be a little more relaxed and able to just 'be' via text.. In person is entirely different for some.
Common sense prevails one would hope :-)
How about a positive thread instead??
I personally wouldn't give someone who wasn't 'real' their fifteen seconds of fame :-)

Greetings Steven,

I can't assign that degree of responsibility to other people. It suggests that I'm dependent upon someone else to order my steps and that isn't the case. If I've unwittingly made a poor decision in character that's my fault. Warnings are wonderful but they aren't always hanging from the rafters. At some point we need to garner some measure of discernment and utilize it. And I don't believe every red flag waving feverishly is always screaming beware. People have agendas and I'm not oblivious to this. I'd be hard pressed to allow my ear to bent by that sort of talk these days. I've learned from experience that the truth has twenty-five shades and you're rarely getting the full story. [;)]
