Likewise. He was (and is) a great leader. He WORKED to get what he has. He knows what it is to be a common man.


Not to mention that; as a general, he was trained to put aside his ego and delegate authority to the benefit of the mission. I wanted him in '08. I want him, now. Hell, I wanted him in 2000 and '04, too.

I have to admit that I would have been conflicted, had he run in 2000, though as I was a HUGE supporter for another (also ran) candidate.

Status: offline 		As a matter of fact, in 2009 Powell did an interview on Larry King and said that Obummers race was a factor in his endorsement. In response to Kings question about whether the belief that Powell had voted for Barry-O because he is black upset him, Powell said this:

"I didn't endorse him simply because he was black. I felt this was, you know, something to take into consideration."

Then he spoke briefly about his friendship with McCain, and added

"In the end, I cannot say I was totally colorblind, but in the end I convinced myself, based on the facts as I saw them, that he was a better choice for this time in our nations history."

Then they talked about how Powell had cried on election night, not because we had elected the right president for this time in our nations history, but because we elected a black president.

Now... I respect Colin Powell. I have his autobiography and frankly I found it very inspirational. However, his continued endorsement of the Liar in Chief is not news. It's not a game changer. It's not a revelation. It really wasn't a surprise or a revelation 4 years ago when he supported the Bamster, in part, because he is black. The only "news" about this is that a man as intelligent as Colin Powell doesn't realize that we simply elected the wrong black man.

He views him as a liberal but fails to substantiate his "opinion" with any facts to support his "opinion"

I would sugest you reread my posts concerning this subject. I have not "charged" anyone with racism. I have in fact questioned a posters position and so far that poster has yet to defend his position.
Your civility has not been frayed but ripped asunder. When weighed against your long and ,heretofore, unblemished history of civility it is stark and unsettling.

running for president is like the movie apocalypto...you run for miles dodging arrows and wild animals, only to survive and land into the hands of an even bigger challenge.


I think Powell would make a terrific President. But what I honestly think has happened is that he's a whole lot more of an independent operator than the GOP can handle. He'd  want to do his job and lead a nation. And they just want someone who won't veto them.

That doesn't entirely surprise me. Against the backdrop of African-American history, the election of a black President did seem like a big milestone. I'm sure I'll mist up if any openly gay candidate wins the White House in my lifetime.

My Dad (Navy liason officer in Korea) was and he frequently talks about the egos in the military.
What you said reminded me of that.
