When I was a kid, a collar was the leather alternative to a wedding ring. I'll admit that every time I hear or see the phrase "training collar", I think it must have some kind of special kickstand to keep your submissive's head from falling off. There is such a thing as focusing too much on protocol, especially considering the fact that there is no unilateral BDSM community. There is no grand council of bondage wizards who will give you your dominant diploma. There is no school of slavery. There is what you do, and what the other people in your immediate community do, and then there's all the wierd stuff everybody else does that you don't quite get, but you'll let it slide because it's not your thing. Where the heck does this "training collar" and "protection collar" thing come from, anyway? I'd never even heard of such things prior to coming here (admittedly, I've been out of the loop for a while, off in suburban limbo with my wife)... anybody? (and if you'd be so kind, actually naming sources would be nice, assuming any are available. I'm such an academic some days)
