But this nation is now in competition with malignant forces of evil who are using every instrument at their command to empty the minds of their subjects and fill those minds with slogans, determination and faith in the future.

Excerpts from an Edward R Murrow speech to broadcasters 1958.

And just what might those malignant forces of evil be?

Wouldn't be those.

Talked with a guy last night that volunteers with ISOH/IMPACT. They've sent out 15 semi trailers of various things to the Sandy relief. The first of their trucks left prior to Sandy making land contact.

On a semi-related note: ISOH/IMPACT has over 200,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space to fill with relief goods in preparation for disasters. Prior to Katrina making landfall, they were mobilizing and trained volunteers were North of New Orleans waiting for the storm to hit. They had semi trailers en route.

Much of the time, supplies are brought out and then distributed by the Red Cross.

So, yeah, private charities can be a huge bonus to disaster recovery, and can even be ready ahead of an actual disaster. This won't alleviate the need for Governmental help, but it may mitigate it.

We are talking about millions of people spread over multiple states. Their efforts are greatly appreciated.. and I am sure they are seen as a bonus to the effort. But there is no way they could replace FEMA.

I'm sure Mitt Romney appreciates your appreciation of his efforts.

Hmmm.. oddly enough I was one of the few who actually said he did some good. So why dont you take your sarcasm and direct it towards someone who didnt.

Reading more might help you look more informed.

What charity is going to provide reconstruction loans for so many people?

tazzygirl -> RE: NYT hack piece (11/3/2012 4:03:13 PM)

Thats only part of the problem with replacing FEMA.

Or get any donations for a disaster that doesn't take place a week before an election, come to that...
